They changed Iris job in the 90's series too.Don't know what they have against reporters, but Iris turned out to be a non-factor in the series anyway.

They might want to avoid inevitable comparisons to Lois. I don't really care what she does, to be honest.

I doubt many people have ever really cared about what Iris does. But, you know... they changed something from the comics, so lets show people how loud we can groan.

Maybe I'm missing something here with this rumor, but are they actively seeking a black actress for Iris? As in an explicit call for that? If that's true, then that is kind of dumb. I don't care what race it is, calling for a specific race for a role like that is silly. I understand if they want a certain ethnicity for a part where the race matters (taking place in a certain country or something). But for a character living in a melting pot country? That just seems pointless and wrong to me. Why force it?

They actively seek white actors all the time, as well as other specificities other than race, even though it's always a big melting pot. None of that is ever called forced or pointless.

I don't think they have anything against reporters per se. It's just that someone who spends all their time reading a prompter doesn't make for a very good leading lady.

and too many superhero girlfriends are reporters from Louis and Clark, to Bruce and Vicky, and of course Barry and Iris.

**** this.

Iris is a tv reporter. Her dad was never a detective. She isn't black, and the love of Barry's life sure isn't his step-sister.

Whatever.

Still better than the current JLA rumors:

(JLA: That's JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, NOT UNITED NATIONS, btw)

Considering that the casting call pieces come from a site I've never even heard of, I'm not so sure I buy it all.

yeah, people seem to be very quick to believe any and all rumors that come their way

I'm fine with whatever, as long as Barry gets his how. On that note I've been meaning to ask you KevinSmith what you thought of grant as Barry.

I don't know about this guy. He doesn't feel like he could carry a show as a lead.

^ as far as I can remember, the same was thought about Stephen amell, including me somewhat, but he proved those people wrong and I think you should just give him a chance and if he isn't you cup of tea, oh well

I think Gustin showed potential, think it could be a great opportunity for him to grow as an actor.

I 'm all for this, but it would be nice to have someone that has some more charisma, like Amell, that would guarantee a better show. I want a good Flash show. It would be great to have two great DC shows on tv at the same time. I'll certainly give him a chance though.

^ I'm sure he will get better as he gets comfortable, kinda like Stephen, as the show went on he got gradually better. Personally I loved Barry and I'm sure he will get better as the series goes on ( or he gets his own show ).

this is what im hoping for.

Whenever this Flash show gets off the ground I'm pretty certain it is gonna be awesome. . You can paint me an optimist or whatever but just based on what I know and my own intuition of where they might take it. I'm extremely confident that Flash will be some kind of scifi serialized superhero show. That will not be afraid to dig into the vast DC mythos at it's disposal.

Wasn't Wally West's wife ALSO a reporter? Iris potential being black is fine by me. My standard is that if the race of a character is integral/important to you they are at a fundamental level, then don't change it. If it's not, then making changes is fine as long as it works in context.

Whoaa:wow: the first thread to do a 1000s posts, for a single character anyway.

Guess I underestimated the power of the Flash.

the Barry lines that were supposed to be "awkward" like Felicity's were only awkward because they were badly delivered. That awkward delivery comes easier to Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker, who it seems they've modeled Barry after.

So a sleeker Flash instead of a bulky muscle suited Flash from the 90's? Hopefully Grant Gustin will hit the gym & put on some muscle before the series starts production.

I'm really happy that we get a sleeker Flash. As that makes just a ton more sense, than to have another mountain of muscles in tights. Flash is a runner, and he actually doesn't require big muscles to do his stuff. Like gaining enough mass to hit someone with the force of Superman. That's a speed force trick.

Yeah, just like they modeled Oliver Queen on Nolan's Bruce Wayne. A lot. It seems to work though. Once you accept the aping (or pretend it isn't there) Arrow is kinda awesome. It does justice to those archetypes, and twists them and improves them sufficiently.

Barry Allen is putting a big smile on my face so far. Exactly so very easy to like and awkwardly sympathic as he should be. Can't wait for his own pilot!

I hope not. This isn't the 90s where everyone is supposed to have a barrel chest so they can feel strong. Flash should be lean. Perhaps he could use some more tone... but perhaps not, we haven't exactly seen his build.

Something along the lines of this would be completely sufficient.
