I'm torn with super powers entering the show tbh. I really hope this now means they will retcon that awful version of the Count and bring in the real Count Vertigo.

Wait. There was an awful one too? I only remember Seth Gabel.

So I was just watching Whose Line Is It Anyway and I saw this guest star who I think would look like a decent Barry Allen, Wilson Bethel? Not sure about his acting chops tho.

Yes and he sucked, it wasn't Count Vertigo. It was a guy hamming it up a doing a Heath Ledger Joker impression. Just my opinion, now they are introducing super powers there's no reason not to give us a faithful version.

They once made that episode where the Count "reappeared", but he was still suffering from the Vertigo overdose. In that episode the real bad guy was some kind of doctor or professor...can't really remember. Anyway...
I would have liked it so much if they made that guy become Count Vertigo. As far as I remember the actor was pretty good and his character had a certain arrogance (perfect for Vertigo). I would have loved if they had that guy take over the "mantle" and nickname of the count using and perfecting the Vertigo drug as a weapon (like he started doing in said episode). So maybe one day he could have made it into some kind of device affecting everyone in a room, or something like that. The "old" Vertigo would remain an overdosed nutjob and this one would have become Ollies nemesis. They could have even made out a background story about him being a poor former aristocrat from a small eastern european country.
But that's never going to happen as Ollie just shot three arrows into the guy's chest. Pity.

Well I'm still holding out hope that they do the real Count Vertigo, I mean they could get away with it but a way they could do it is maybe the Seth Gabel character was a lackey or his son or something.

He is awesome. A charming good actor. He was on my fancast list as Green Arrow lol, when this show was announced. Of course I'm happy with amell now.

He has never been available though, Wilson is a regular cast member and fan favourite in hart of Dixie, another CW show picked up for season 3.

I just got my DVD on the 90s The Flash TV series, I haven't watched it since it originally aired here in the UK in 1992 (although I remember catching half the pilot on the Sci Fi channel years ago). My memories if it were solely of the pilot and the episode with the reverse Flash in the blue costume. Well I re-watched the pilot yesterday for the first time since I saw it years ago and wow was this a great pilot. It would even work as a TV movie (which was obviously intended), I hope the new pilot is as good as this one still is.

The show was really good. It had a few really cheesy episodes here and there but on a whole it was a strong attempt at the Flash. You could tell John Wesley Shipp took the role very seriously and had a great time wth it.

Definitely

I think the way it was done and the time it was done really adds to the shows overall charm. I wish it had gotten a second series or at least a TV movie using the plot for season two which was going to feature the Flash's rogues teaming up to take him down.

If hart Of Dixie wasn't running I'd be completely onboard for him as Barry.

Rewatching the 90s show has got me really pumped for the Flash appearing on Arrow.

The 90s Flash show was truly fantastic and ahead of its time. It's amazing how well it holds up. Better than some of the crap that's in movies today from both Marvel and DC the past ten years. Very well made, good, solid take on the character.

It's a damn shame it got screwed over by the constant time slot rearranging and the Gulf War coverage.

That show, to me, is a perfect time capsule of good tv from the early 90's. Every time i watch iI feel like I'm transported back to 1990 and get a good feel of the era. Its a shame none of the actors on that show went on to do anything else.

i hope they don't do something stupid like replacing his super speed with him using roller blades to run around and beat people up. but since they want a "real world" then they might do that

I think they confirmed he'll be getting powers.

He will have his powers
He will have wear his costume
He will be called The Flash

No ********

Agreed 100%. I was a fan of Seth Gabel on Fringe, but his Count Vertigo ****ing sucked. Simply awful. Ugh.

I know its really annoying. I suppose on the bright side though at least it didn't keep going til it turned to ****.

Agreed, he was just so hammy and you could tell he was trying to do his best Heath Ledger impression. The thing is I though even a Count Vertigo that sold drugs would have been easy to keep close to the comics version. Count Vertigo should be a season long bad guy that's why I'm hoping they do some sort of retcon.

"Arrow" executive producer Marc Guggenheim spoke about the announced "The Flash" television drama in the CW's "Arrow" universe, and the challenge of expanding the DC Television Universe in a way that doesn't sacrifice the unique tone of "Arrow."

"I think a lot of people are justified in asking 'What does this mean for Arrow in terms of its tone?' And my answer is that the trick that we have -- and this is a challenge we've discusses a lot and have an awareness of how to face it head on -- is the fact that 'Arrow' is like 'Iron Man' where 'The Flash' will be 'The Hulk,'" said Guggenheim. "And just as 'The Hulk' coming out did not change the tone of the Iron Man movies, 'The Flash' will not change the tone of 'Arrow.' We're very cognizant of what 'Arrow' is all about, and I think the Marvel movies demonstrate that each piece of a universe can have its own feel. 'Thor' is consistent with the tone of Thor while 'Captain America' is consistent with the tone of Captain America's character. 'Arrow's' tone will remain consistent much in the same way, and we are looking forward to expanding our canvass a bit. And judging from the announcement, I think the fans are looking forward to it as well."

Seth Gabel was over the top, but he was also really entertaining. I liked him in the role.

It's gonna be really interesting to see hw thy manage to make it work .

I don't think the average CW viewer knows this is ashow based on DC Comics. I remember back when the first few episodes premiered, everyone not familiar with comics referred to it as "that modern Robin Hood show". It's been a whole season and we still haven't seen things from the comics that the GA would recognize off the bat (except maybe Deathstroke for the younger viewers that grew up with the Teen Titans show). I think the debut of the Flash in Season 2 is when most of these people will have their "Oh, so this is a comic book show!" moment.

I was just thinking this. :(

I do think season 2 would have been awesome though, they said they had a Rogue teamup story planned where they would each try and take down the Flash, I would about piss my pants in excitement if I ever got to see that happen - and I think they would have done it well, too, given the quality of the tv show. :word:

I think the producer's comparison doesn't quite work. See, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, each character debuted in their own respective movie and had time to establish their setting before meeting up in The Avengers. And even then, the differing characters and settings have yet to crossover into the others' individual franchises - i.e. magic has yet to show up in Iron Man, gamma-irradiated Hulks have yet to show up in Thor, etc.

In contrast, the Flash and his character (namely that superpowers exist) are going to appear in Arrow itself and before they even have a chance to establish themselves to the audience.

Except that we know that gamma-powered Banner exists in IM's world (he cameoed in IM 3) regardless of whether the Hulk appears or not. The same is true for Thor, CA, etc.
