Arrow The Barry Allen/The Flash Thread

I don't get the obsession fans have with casting older "mature" actors for Superhero roles, I blame it on Marvel casting seasoned actors for Banner, Stark and Hawkeye. Flash can't be a 23 year old, he should be in mid 30's, why ? Now, anytime a superhero casting happens, people want veteran actors for that role. This is absurd demand.

In real life soldiers, firemen, cops do get recruited at young age, or do they wait for them to hit 40's before they can join the service ?

Because they have more experience?

Barry is often portrayed as older, so I guess we all need to be open minded about it.

I have a question, so is Arrow in the same world as Man of Steel? If so, I guess since DC is "taking their time with JL" I guess the age issue will in fact even out?

Thoughts anyone?

No they aren't in the same universe. I doubt they even have any interests in tying the two together.

I'm not writing off the notion just yet.

for me it's more about his age compared to the rest of the cast...

if your going to cast older actors to play younger characters, you have to at least keep it consistent, when you throw a younger actor (or even someone the actual age of the character) into the mix their going to end up looking that much younger by comparison

Of having older actors/actresses intermingle with younger ones add variety, that works to.

It'll be in the same universe if Flash is successful, and yes they are pondering it.

By the way, I think Grant Gustin would be fully capable of holding his own against Affleck and Cavill and (possibly) Amell by 2016/17. He'll be a quite bulkier (not Affleck bulky but still) and he'll be seasoned in the Flash role. Also, they could treat him as the "new kid"

I hope John Wesley Shipp has a role in the Flash episodes/show to some extent. Barry's boss? Jay Garrick?

yeah this is barry to me

Bow ties are hip now, so at least Barry can get away with wearing one.

Well... I'm pretty sure we would know well before that, but I get your meaning.

I just don't see DC/Warner Bros. setting up two separate, unrelated live action continuities. If you're setting up a shared universe, set up A shared universe. A full-fledged, in-costume Flash on TV and a full-fledged, in-costume Flash on film is just cause for confusion. And, yes, I know there are some of you ready and waiting with your Superman Returns/Smallville argument, but the show wasn't called Superman, it was called Smallville, he wasn't wearing a costume and that mother****er didn't step one foot off the ground. Night and day. The way they've made their intentions with Barry sound, they're really going all-out, and if a JL movie ever happens and if they should use the character, they will be doing the same. I say treat the series as his own franchise. Where Captain America has The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier away from The Avengers franchise, Flash will have this series to stand as his non-team franchise. Arrow/Flash/Man Of Steel/Superman vs. Batman. All one world.

I agree.
In the beginning they said that there would be no superpowers in the world of Arrow, but clearly that has changed now. So it's pretty safe to assume that they have something up their sleeve.
Time will tell.

I agree and could you find a better Green Arrow for JL than Stephen Amell? I certainly think not. Flash is still yet to be determined the only people who have any idea of how Grant will perform are the ones who hired him.

i'd actually love amell in a live action justice league i think he is a pretty solid actor no worse than henry

Again, Barry was 24 when he got his powers and first became The Flash in the comics, so the fact that Grant is 23 (presently) doesn't bother me.

I'm fine with it.

For those who are less fine with it, perhaps they'll play with time a little.

Maybe the TV world takes place 5 to 10 years before MOS, or before JL. Maybe they'll have a different actor for the older Barry.

Or maybe they'll have Wally West in the JLeague. (with Barry's absence being left as a mystery for the show)

I actually think using TV to promote the so called lesser heroes is a great idea. As Smallville showed aswell there were people who weren't that into Superman that loved that show and wanted Tom Welling to be Superman on the big screen. So I think the same may be said for Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin down the line of Green Arrow and the Flash were needed for JL.

The basic problem with the shared TV and movie DC Cinematic Universe will be that you cannot expect the movie going audience to be aware of the TV series. You can create a whole mythology on TV which the movie going audience might not be following. Stargate?

I can only imagine a flashback origin scene in a JL film if the TV show were as good as HBO ie Game of Thrones like production values! At least for the origin episode.

Or they can just introduce them without origin stories. Green Arrow, guy who's insanely good with a bow and arrow. The Flash, fastest man alive. Can run so fast he breaks the laws of physics. Wonder Woman, demi-god. Got that? Good! Now onto our story. I wouldn't have a problem with this because I'm a fan but 90% of the planet might not get it.

A shared TV/Film universe isn't too tough to pull off. It'd be like getting into a series during the 4th season. If Flash or Arrow is in a JL film, people who "don't get" the character, can always Netflix/DVD the series to see the whole story.

Plus, all you need for the Flash origin story in the JL movie is a 5 second explanation, "lab accident".

The same way that Avengers reminded folks of everyone's origin.

The only thing that would give me pause about connecting Arrow/Flash to the DCCU, which I'd be fine with, is you would have to explain where they take place in the timeline in relation to Man of Steel.

In a JL movie they cannot include the origin stories of all the characters, did Hawkeye and Black widow got any flashbacks to their origins ? Or Origins of Nick Fury for that matter.

But, I feel that Flash in JL will get some origin story though, maybe through flash backs, even if it is the same actor from the tv series.

Well they don't have superpowers.

Iron man, cap, Thor, and hulk all had explanations for their powers in the movie.

I'd expect the same for Flash, WW, GL. Just short lines of dialogue.
