The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 3

I'm just counting on an actor in his early to mid 30's for Bats.

if they're going for an older Batman, Jon Hamm or Karl Urban would be excellent

Mr. Feeny as Alfred. :D

If its not following the pack, it soon will be, but: Karl Urban. Dredd shows that he has enough presence to come off as a dark, intimidating figure, and he's also a chameleon, disappearing into his incredibly different roles. That bespeaks to an ability to play the Batman/Bruce Wayne dichotomy.

Urban's not good-looking enough to play Bruce Wayne.

I find Karl Urban more attractive than Anson Mount, Sam Witwer, Wes Bentley or just about anyone discussed in this thread not named Fassbender or Hamm, lol.

He's not my top choice, but I think he's easily handsome enough for the role and I'd be perfectly happy if he were cast.

Meh, I don't think that he has the right looks for Batman / Bruce Wayne at all.

What's next ? Can't wait for someone to show support for someone like Jeremy Renner for Batman. lol.

Anyone can do the handsome playboy look with proper grooming. Urban's too old now but I considered him during the Begins casting days

Karl's really grown as an actor since 2005. He'd make a fine Batman, even at his age, which is the age I want to see Bruce in the reboot.

I don't think Urban necessarily looked right for the role back in the BB days, but as he's aged, he's just gotten better and better, imo. Here's an extremely recent interview with Karl at Fantastic Fest.

I don't see how this guy looks any less like Bruce Wayne than anyone else being discussed over the last several pages. He's got the chiseled jaw, cheekbones, height, general dark looks and he's handsome. Throw on the voice, acting range and the screen presence he brought in Dredd, and you've got what sounds like a pretty decent candidate to me.

Agreed. He's my #1 choice right now.

Fassbender would have been great (still not my #1 tho) if he wasn't playing Magneto.

I'm pretty sure Fassbender will remain my #1 until the role is cast, lol.

Fassbender is a great actor, but I don't really see him as a perfect Batman. Not like his potential for Bond, where they'd be silly to pick anyone else after Craig retires.

How about Jonathan Pryce for Alfred?

I think after Caine's portrayal, they should go more for the prim and proper Alfred. While still retaining some humor, and Pryce is both of those. After all, he used to do Whose Line? :D

I'd be much more excited about Fassbender as Batman than Bond. I feel like we already saw his Bond in the early scenes of XM:FC. It's like Vaughn just told him, "do your Bond impression." I haven't really seen his Batman yet, even though he IS perfect for it, imo, and that's what excites me - because I'm not sure what exactly we'd get from him, but it's pretty much guaranteed to be awesome.

Besides I'm pretty sure Craig's got Bond locked down for the next 10 years now. Batman is ready for a re-cast NOW, and Fassbender just happens to be at the perfect age for it now, imo.

Pryce is inspired for Alfred.

On Urbans looks, it's not that he's not handsome enough, it's simply that he doesn't look like Bruce Wayne.

And flickchick85, that last paragraph was 100% right.

i would like to see an Alfred that actually looked like he was in the British military; sort of molded after the Alfred from Earth One. that's why i think Alan Rickman or Timothy Dalton would be inspired casting choices.

Great choice! Completely agree.

My other choice would be Ian McDiarmid...

Agreed. Would also like to see that brought up in the movie (Alfred being in the military).

The Batman

Directed by Guillermo Del Toro

Synopsis: Very loosely based on Arkham Asylum, this film would have Batman entering Arkham Asylum once the inmates (led by Joker) take control of it. The film would takes place over the course of 4 hours (within a 3 hour runtime) and would bring back the FANTASY element to the Batman series lacking in Nolans trilogy. This would NOT be part of a series, rather a stand alone story. This would be the Die Hard of Batman films, with Batman pitted against the odds. Also, this would feature an ensemble cast, introducing plenty of villains to explore in later films. Also, Bruce Wayne unmasked gets almost no screen time, and The Batman himself is the central character.

Cast:

Batman/Bruce Wayne - Anson Mount

I love it for an older cast.

Not a fan of Penn as Mr. J though.

Seeing that Earth One Alfred would be refreshing. Pierce Brosnan is my choice for that interp.

Pryce is my pick if they stick with the main comics.

Pierce would make an amazing Alfred. Really hoping that happens some day.
