The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 3

I'm really starting to warm up for the Fassbeder as Batman. I didn't want it at first because I've been seeing his face a little too much, but thinking about it I enjoy how he can play tough gritty tormented characters. I wonder if he can play a good Bruce Wayne though. Also, just asking can he do an american accent I've never heard him do it.

Michael Stuhlbarg for The Riddler.

BATMAN GENESIS

Directed by Alex Proyas

Starring:

Luke Evans as Batman/Bruce Wayne

Tom Hanks as Captain James Gordon

John Goodman as Commissioner Loeb

Geoffrey Rush as Alfred Pennyworth

Ethan Hawke as Harvey Dent

Rosario Dawson as Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy

Sharlto Copely as The Riddler

PLOT:

The Batman has been fighting his war on crime with simple methods: SWAT gear and a modified ski mask, a plain muscle car, etc. for two years, maintaining a low profile. But as more extravagant criminals arise and corrupt Commisioner Loeb deems Batman a public menace, Bruce must become a symbol for the people of Gotham. Utilizing a more heroic costume, gadgets (including a Batmobile-a long sleek electric vehicle that Wayne Ent. built for salt flat trials), and building a relationship with good cop Captain Gordon and crusading DA Harvey Dent, Batman stands against Poison Ivy-a mutated botanist who wants to topple the city for Mother Earth, and the Riddler, a former encryption specialist turned bank-robber. The movie ends with Superman offering Batman a seat in the Justice League, which Bruce initially refuses, but starts to reconsider while at a charity event, where he sees the Flying Graysons die in a trapeze accident, orphaning 16year old Dick Grayson.

Here's a fun hypothetical -

Stanley Kubrick's Batman (1965)

John Cassavetes - Bruce Wayne
George C. Scott - James Gordon
Trevor Howard - Alfred Pennyworth
Angie Dickinson - Vicki Vale
Peter Sellers - The Joker
Laurence Harvey - Two-Face

I'd love to travel back in time to the early/mid fifties with a modified Begins script.

Director: David Lean

Starring:

Gregory Peck as Batman/Bruce Wayne

Audrey Hepburn as Rachel Dawes

Humphrey Bogart as Jim Gordon

Rod Serling as Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow

Vincent Price as Ra's Al Ghul

Changes would include replacing the train/water vaporizer with gas bombardment via dirigible, and making the tumbler with a turret less Sherman tank.

I'm all in for Fassbender, but he needs to gain a lot of weight, and probably some years as well, to be perfect!

Anson Mount looks like Bruce Wayne. Can he act?

Yeah, watch Hell on Wheels. It's on tonight... or pick up the first season on Blu-Ray if you want to start from the beginning (I'd recommend the latter). I'd say Mount is a little old if they want to go with an all-around younger Justice League, but he still could make a great Batman. He has rare intensity as an actor. It's a shame that the Emmys ignored Hell on Wheels completely; Mount and Christopher Heyerdahl should have at least gotten nominations.

I'm warming up to Sam Witwer. He's my second choice behind the Fass.

They are the same age, but Witwer looks more like he is Cavills age.

So I would have Pierce Brosnan be based on EO Alfred

or Jonathan Pryce, based on mainstream Alfred

I wouldn't want him as my butler, that's for sure lol

But he does look more of a character that's come out of the Army or something :p

The muscles, pissed off facial expression, and goatee are a bit too much, but I'd love to see a military-Al.

Sam Witwer is my choice for a younger Batman. And even though Michael Fassbender is in his 30s, I choose him for an older Batman.

I don't like military bad ass Earth One Alfred. Not one bit. It's a stark contrast to every incarnation of Alfred. He draws similarities to Christopher Nolans Alfred I guess, but only slightly (military background). I think there were several big misteps in earth one. The relationship between Alfred and Bruce being one of them. Alfred not meeting Bruce until AFTER the death of Bruce's parents and Alfred kicking Bruce's ass in the name of tough love were just two of the most bogus things about Earth One. Earth One tried to turn Alfred into Henry Ducard which for me was a huge fail. I like Alfred the way he has been written for over 7 decades. Kind, gentle and wise. The Batman mythos needs that, they already have Batman and Gordon and everyone in between, the hard nosed bad ass role has been filled Ad nauseam.

Alternate rarely means better. And in this case it doesn't. Check the Earth One thread, I go more into it there lol

I think Earth One would be great for a TV series, but not a movie.

We're already overloaded with movies and stories that have characters as young as possible. I'd like Batman in the movies to be well into his 'career' as a vigilante. Mid thirties.

I always thought Christopher Lloyd would have been a great Joker around the time of One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest.
