flickchick85 and Rachel Dawes, I ask you both to watch Donnie Darko and this video all the way through

He definitely had a dark look to him in the video but I'd like to see him deliver some dialogue. There's a lot more to acting than staring moodily into the distance. He needs to play a serial killer in some future movie.

Have you seen Donnie Darko? Hes intense in that movie but he was so young then... and if he was the runner up for Batman Begins then I believe he could turn in a good performance. He has the look and in my opinion, the intensity..

But Ryan Gosling over him any day..

The only way I could accept Jake as Batman would be if he made a voice transplant with Kevin Conroy lol

I've seen (and hated) Donnie Darko, and while Jake was good in it, it certainly didn't make the case for him being anything other than boyish at all, imo. Just a dark and creepy boy, lol. As for that video, it has the crucial advantage of him not having to say a word. :oldrazz:

jake has permanent puppy dog eyes

can't see him as batman unless it's a spoof

I can't see it either but maybe im wrong.

As slim of a chance it is for either Fassbender or Gosling to take the role. I think Gosling might be a little more possible these days. He's just not attached to a huge Marvel Comics character, he's not a part of any big franchises over the next 5 years like Fassy is. Fassy has a better chance at being compared to Bale than Gosling. I can just hear the annoying Magneto vs Batman arguments. All you need is a huge paycheck and a great script to convince Ryan.

Gosling is an odd choice for some, and a perfect choice for others. It's a cool situation. Keatons casting was all negative, Bales was all positive. Maybe Kilmer was the closest to being a "mixed reaction"?? Only difference is that Ryans 5 times the actor and has more appeal.

Well, he is playing a boy. :oldrazz:

I like Jake but I think he would be better as Superman than as Batman (and he looks more like it). Also, Donnie Darko is great.

Actually, Jake Gyllenhaal is a decent choice for Batman, but the problem is that he has very little screen presence.

I hate it for the same reason I hate the Boondock Saints, and the same reason some people here (not I) claim to hate Whedon's work: they come across as so try-hard to me, as if it's screaming, "look at me! Look how clever I am!" And if a person didn't like it, it MUST be because they "didn't get it." :whatever: At least in the world of the college students who worshiped those movies back when I was in school. The only thing I loved about DD was that "Mad World" song, lol.

Well, he is playing a boy. :oldrazz:
The only thing he plays well. :cwink:

I remember seeing Gyllenhaal playing a tough, world-weary guy in Rendition and just thinking, "this doesn't work for you at all." He and Leo have the same curse - Good actors, but forever boyish.

i can't see Jake as Batman, but i think he'd make a great Green Lantern

DiCaprio has shed that way more than JG imho.

I agree, but DiCaprio still has it to a certain extent, imo. Last time it bugged me in one of his movies was Body of Lies, where his character was obviously supposed to have grown a pretty substantial beard in an attempt to blend in with the Iraqis, and his boy-beard was just...so sad, lol. I just had a hard time buying him as the worldly CIA guy he was supposed to be in that film. But it's certainly been an issue for me less often than it used to be, I'll give him that.

Agreed, or Barry Allen.

I would prefer a masculine, rugged, and mature batman/Bruce Wayne, and I'd also, for once, like to see Bruce Wayne with actual black hair!

I think BW is a very hard casting, since he has so many qualities as character; he's tough and emotionally closed off, while also being a socially skilled playboy. Those parts, I think, were nailed by Bale, but I think his Batman was lacking.

Batman is even harder, as he needs to be a tough-as-rock, imposing kind of guy, that everybody automatically respects and/or fears, all while must also come of as smart, resourceful and his most important imo and defining, imo, quality; being one step ahead of everyone, including the viewers.

Not being a smart guy was the Nolan Batman's biggest failure, imo. The smart-guy part was all taken up Lucius, the wise guy was all Alfred and the villains was always ahead of him. All he had was being stubborn..

I wouldn't totally dismiss Jake as Batman.

I'm not 100% certain he could pull it off, but I think he could. He has the look of Bruce, not the voice...BUT, he I'm sure he could cook something up.

As far as becoming the part? I think he could do it to be honest. He may just surprise us in the future.

some great shouts in here but i feel some aren't really doing the math with some actors ages.
i think the actor would have to be around 29-35 in 2016 that is. and then you'd hope that they'd stick around for at least 3-4 films meaning a good 8-10 years as batman.

someone like jon hamm (as good as he maybe for the part) will 45 when the film comes out and hence in his 50s by the time a 3rd or 4th one comes out>> TOO OLD!!

Odd choice I know, but how about Vince Vaughn as the Joker?
