The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 5

The annoying thing about Ackles is that, despite the fact people look down on "The CW actors", he is solid. He runs with the material he's given, even if the material itself isn't great. He's got a brilliant presence onscreen, he's funny, he's charismatic, he can do drama very well.

However, he makes no effort to actually prove that. Even if he'd never be Batman (and personally, I don't want him to be), he could have a solid movie career. It baffles me that he's not made a movie since 'My Bloody Valentine' in 2009. I mean, he's 35 now. He should be in the prime of his career.

But I digress.

Jensen Ackles as Batman is bad. Very bad. He would however make a fantastic Hal Jordan or even Wally West.

His voice was good as Jason Todd, but it'd sound bad as Batman. He could do well as Hal Jordan in JL

It's a little hard to do other things when you're one of only two lead characters on a show that's been on for eight seasons. The thing about people that look down on "CW actors" is that they're acting like every show on that network is Gossip Girl or 90210. Not so.

A lock? Heh.... okay. :o

Personally, I think Matthew Bomer is too much of a pretty boy for Batman. He's too clean cut & visually I think he'd look a little too close to Henry Cavill as Superman.

Not to mention something that is very important for the casting of Batman is eyes, while Karl Urban isn't my first choice for Batman, he does have things in his look that I would attribute to Batman.

EDIT - I meant to add at the end of that, that Bomer doesn't have said facial features. He'd probably be a good Bruce, but visually I don't think I could buy him as Batman.

Eh, I'm not sure I'm digging the Bomer suggestion anymore. He doesn't seem too... masculine, for lack of better word. He'd make a fine Nightwing, but probably not Batman.

Some of the other names that have been thrown around in this thread are ridiculous.

I'm not an evans hater but where? I've actually seen a lot of his work and honestly I think his best acting I've seen from him was probably in that crappy cellular movie.

I know he's done some indie stuff but I can't think of any off the top of my head?

Evans better than Cavill? LOL MOS HAS SAID ANOTHER THING...

I think some may be thinking Bomer is a lock because he was open about being in the final 3 for the casting of Superman, so the idea that Snyder may decide to cast him as a character who has always been visually similar is not that crazy.

I wouldn't be against Bomer or anything and I realize that he was in the running for Supes but I don't think that makes him a lock. I mean I like the choice of Bomer a hell of a lot more than some choices in here.

Every actor mentioned in this thread is a pretty boy, even if they can act. If they weren't pretty boys they wouldn't be in the running. Even heterosexual fanboys don't want an uggo for Bats.

Though all square jawed white guys are pretty boys to me, so that's neither here nor there. :o

Just look at the guy. He looks like Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Batman should have a little Latin flavor -

Édgar Ramírez

I hate being superficial but Batman needs to stand shoulder to shoulder with Cavill's Superman. If Bomer were taller I'd be game for him.

The actor should be 6'0" to 6'3" IMO. He should also have range for both personas, rather than just having a growl for the cowl.

Not many options that I can think of. Just have Armie Hammer be the stand-in, CGI the face from Tequila's post, and have Conroy do voice over.

Ian Somerhalder is another guy I would look at. I know he's only 5'10'' but he's got a bit of a Michael Keaton crazy look to him.

Oh I don't think he's a lock, I'm just suggesting why some may think he is. I'm a fan of Bomer and he was my choice for Superman, not sure about him as Batman though.

Ok maybe lock was a bad term but I do think Bomer should be strongly considered.

He's got everything you want as far as age, looks and talent.

How are you measuring his talent? Based off his performance in White Collar? Maybe you're thinking of how much you like him in Magic Mike?

Seems like people are naming Bomer purely because he looks the part, and yeah, I guess he does. If you want to cast Batman based on physical characteristics, maybe he's your guy. Chiseled face? Check. Nice head of hair? Check. Looks good in designer suits? Check. Ability to gain lean muscle mass? Probably. Even with all that, I'm far from sold on him. Casting Batman is not about checking things off a list like that. (Plus, am I the only one who thinks he looks exactly like Cavill in some pictures?)

My desire is that they go "out of the box" with the casting of Bruce/Batman, because sometimes, that's how you strike gold. To this day, some people would say Michael Keaton is their favorite Batman and he fits none of the physical characteristics I mentioned above. Fans literally boycotted his casting at first. How about Heath Ledger? Was there a single person who suggested him or hoped he was chosen to play The Joker in TDK? Not a chance, and his casting was a total shock to us all...but he ****ing nailed it. Chris Nolan saw something in him that others did not, and it paid off in spades. Imagine if we had gotten Crispin Glover (a fan favorite for TDK's Joker casting) simply because he pretty much looked the part and reflected a certain level of creepiness. We would have missed out on the total transformation we got from Heath.

IMO, the obvious choice is not always the best choice. By NOT playing it safe and NOT going with an obvious Hollywood hunk (or any of the popular choices from this thread), Snyder might have the best chance at pure magic.

*Side-note: What really sold Christian Bale for me was his performance in American Psycho. Not only was his body ripped, and not only did he LOOK the way Bruce Wayne should look, but he showed that he could play a tortured, somewhat demented soul...someone with multiple personalities. As Patrick Bateman, Bale was playing an outsider trying to blend in, a man filled with rage who was displaying a pure facade to those around him, someone who was unwillingly consumed by his own darkness. THAT's what we need from our Batman. We need an actor with the distinct ability to go back and forth between acting suave/charismatic...then unhinged/dangerous...emotionally vulnerable...powerful/sure of himself...etc

Sorry, but seeing Karl Urban scowling with only his mouth exposed, growling with a deep voice, striking cool poses in slow motion, while shooting dozens of bad guys...does not equate to a qualification to play Batman. It shouldn't be as cut and dry as that. *end rant*
