The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 5

A big fat no to Hedlund. I still have nightmares about that Tron Legacy performance. Granted Charlie Hunnam's nightmare performance in Pac Rim is starting to replace Hedlund's. Those two might be fine for other roles but not this one.

For some reason, I keep coming back to David Giuntoli from NBC's Grimm. I think he's got a good look, charisma, he's 33, has somewhat of a cult following and he's capable of humor but also has something of a dark streak to him. I think he's got pretty much the whole package, the only question is if he has the gravitas to carry a film. I suspect that like a lot of TV actors who make the transition, he could, given the right material.

Hunnam was fine in PR. But nothing memorable. I can see starring in a single Flash movie or in a team-up like Justice League or Dark Universe. But he's not somebody who can dive into such an iconic character in a large franchise that sells billions. Ive seen people suggest him for Batman, and im like NO.

The new actor for Bats will have to have a LOT of confidence simply because it's bigger than ever now. He's coming off of Bale and TDKT. It's insane if you think about the pressure.

It's bigger too because this actor is going to be in a Batman vs Superman movie and Justice League AND do a solo film or two on his own. He may have to face a new version of the Joker, which is another iconic "all eyes on me" role. You cant feel weaker as an actor when you're up against the Joker, because theyre always going to cast a top notch award winning potential guy for it. Keaton had the chops to stand with Nicholson. Bale and Ledger was the same.

This new guy....mannnnn....I pity the fool! This is why people always come on here and yell out Fassbender's name or Gosling's. Because they have the chops, and appeal for it. Im not so sure about Manganiello in terms of acting confidence. Leading man confidence. It's different from "Im full of muscles and I have confidence" lol.

Even Gosling (a huge fav of mine) doesn't really have that confidence with these big movies because he avoids them like the plague.

He was one of my first thoughts last weekend but I figured the idea wouldn't get much traction. I think he has the capacity for both sides of the Batman/Bruce persona.

And he has a natural voice for the role.

have you watched On The Road? Garret is great in this filme.

We're doing this all wrong. Instead of thinking of people who we can see as Batman, we should do the Burton approach, and pick someone who you wouldn't think of as being Batman, because last time that happened, it had awesome results.

:awesome:

On the Road isn't the kind of film I rush to watch, if I ever even watch it. I've seen Hedlund in other things besides Tron and I still don't think he'd do the Batman justice. I'd be absolutely horrified if he were cast as Batman, horrified.

Ryan Gosling

I will accept nobody else

Throw him whatever he wants. 30m a film. 50m a film.

He is everything Warner Brothers needs for Batman - Respected A list actor, he looks the part, 6'1"

Cast him and Batman/Superman makes 2 billion at the box office

I agree but if he's tied up in post-production on his new film he's directing, he wont budge. He's turned it down before, even though this past year he seems more open to the idea. Remember, he's on a break from acting right now. Like Dicaprio. And if this thing starts shooting in February or March, it may not be reasonable for Gosling to come in. Even if Bale was open to returning, his schedule for "Exodus" prevents that. Obviously Snyder would push the shooting up if that were the case..but you see my point.

Right now, I keep thinking of Jon Hamm and how perfect he is for the role. But of course they need a younger actor who is meeting Superman for the first time. An actor who can commit to another team-up film + a solo film or two. Maybe even beyond that. Gosling (or Fassbender if he wasn't so tied up) would be my pick for this young version, but I don't want to set myself up for disappointment.

This leads to the countless McIntyre, Bomer, Manganiello, Evans suggestions that we get. I think 1 of them could be chosen or another that we haven't thought of. But I do find myself feeling only semi-enthusiastic about these choices. Because I KNOW that Gosling would tear it up like Keaton did while being just as controversial yet surprising. I KNOW Fassbender would be one hell of a successor to Bale. And I just KNOW right now at this very moment that Jon Hamm would completely kill it in this role as the 40 something veteran Wayne. Fass and Hamm both have pasts with Snyder too.

So much hyperbole in this thread. :oldrazz:

'Hyperbole' is the most overused word in the history of the internet. 'This' is catching it up, and both have left 'meh' long behind, but 'hyperbole' is well in the lead.

Is it because 'exaggeration' is harder to spell? Because usually that is a more precise term for what people are trying to describe.

Not singling anyone out, because everyone does the same.

Way to exaggerate your post, regwec.

regwec isn't just being bole right now, he's being hyperbole! :awesome:

..... I'm not using that word right, am I? :o:csad:

Cast him if you want a Batman that looks like he has just graduated high school, and not a Batman who has traveled the world mastering every martial art known to man while amassing more knowledge than most human beings could dream of.

Exactly. I see him as more of a well established Nightwing. Definitely don't see Batman.

Forget all y'all. Casey Affleck. :o

I am new to these forums, so I apologize if these photos have already been seen. I posted this in the Man of Steel 2 forum already:

I think that Garrett Hedlund has the acting chops, look (with dyed black hair), physicality (he's 6'2"), age, and voice (losing his "drawl" he has a surprisingly deep voice) to be Bruce Wayne/Batman. I know that it is irrelevant, but he even sort of reminds me of Christian Bale in these photos:

I can definitely see the resemblance with Bale in these photos. That said, he does look a bit green. No idea about his acting chops either.

I like going over the top sometimes. You can't argue that it gets my point accross that I don't want Hedlund anywhere near the role.:oldrazz:

Also I think he'd look wrong opposite my precious. Henry is manly and sexy and Hedlund wouldn't look out of place in Twilight.

Why can't someone suggest a good choice that isn't a pipe dream?

R-Patz for Batman!

You need to go established star for Batman. That's how it's always been, superman is usually the unknown but the actor for batman is not.

I don't mean known in just the fan boy sense as well. This new actor is going to have a lot to burden so I hope they go with someone who already has a successful track record as an actor and with the public?

I think Batman should be older than Superman. Batman isn't stronger than Superman, so he needs to be older and wiser than him. Batman needs to have a moral superiority over Superman and that only comes with age.

I presume the sequel won't ignore the fact that Superman killed thousands of people and Batman, as a result, thinks he's dangerous and wants to stop him.

A Batman the same age as Superman wont have the requisite experience to tackle Superman.

We're getting Batman v Superman in 2015, Justice League in 2017, and the earliest another Batman film could come about is 2019.

I think the 2019 Batman film could be based on The Dark Knight returns. This would call for an older Batman.

That's why I think Jon Hamm, David Boreanaz and Karl Urban are actually suitable for the role age-wise.

They all look the part, they all have the physique of Batman, they are all humorous (good god this film will need some) and they are charming and charismatic. They would be excellent Bruce Waynes as well as Batman.

We've never seen an older and wiser Batman on film. I'd like them to explore that. We've had Nolan's excellent work - but now I want something new and fresh. What I DO NOT WANT is a pretty boy MTV Batman.

My concern is that they will go for a pretty Bruce Wayne as opposed to a masculine Bruce to get the female audience.

And in terms of Jon Hamm, David Boreanaz and Karl Urban's ages - here's a thought... Robert Downey Junior was 43 in the first Iron Man film. He's 48 now. You wouldn't think it.
