i think Hill could actually make for a decent young Penguin

We're already getting a young Penguin in Gotham.

I want old! Joe Pesci old? :hmm

I think it would be cool to see.

To see a Hollywood legend make a comeback like that :D

Another one I could see for Penguin is Ralph Fiennes

Now he's a one who could pull of the Penguin's forged elegance seamlessly to mask his true psychopathic nature.

Pesci would be the greatest. A 70 year old Penguin with a 45 year old Batman. I can totally deal with that. A 25 year difference between Bruce and Dick, same thing between Bruce and Oswald.

Pesci is one of my favorite actors of all time. He's lost a lot of weight recently but he can still nail it.

My brother was the one who suggested it to me a few months back out of the blue and i was like wow, i never thought of that.

It would be awesome :D

This should be a time of characters/villains in their twilight years.

Now im getting excited!

Kurt Russell or Bryan Cranston for Gordon (60 year old). Pesci for Cobblepot (70). Irons for Alfred (around 70). Joker should be between 40 and 55.

That's a pretty bad choice IMO. I love Woody, but he's just so wrong for the part.

And what's with your dog pic you keep posting every single time? lol

It's kind of like my signature. I think I used it for one of my first posts on this forum and I liked it so much that I do it pretty much every post.

I like Woody as The Joker for some strange reason. He was also one of my picks for Lex before Eisenberg got cast. Matthew McConaughey was a good choice for the Joker but I think Woody could do an even better job.

He's shown a tremendous amount of range over the years and he did get his start in comedy after all. I can definitely see him taking the part since he's older and unlike a lot of other great actors, he doesn't really seem picky in the parts he picks. It'd be nice to see him bring some seriously maniacal fun in the part.

Woody would make a pretty interesting Gordon, actually.

I'm not feeling Woody as Joker..

If we're getting an older Joker (which would only make sense, i see him being at least a few years older than Bats) then Willem Dafoe is the best choice

With Dafoe it feels like it would just be Green Goblin 2.0.

Not that I don't think Dafoe is a good actor, I just think it'd be better if we got someone who can give us more of a fresh take. :lips:

I'm less concerned with outside the box casting and more concerned with who is actually right for the role . There is no doubt that Willem Dafoe would be perfect for an older take on the Joker. Who cares if he played a comic book villain before? He's perfect for it and spider man was over ten years ago. Ben Affleck played a character that's very similar to Batman years ago , but no one really cared. I think people should fancast based on who is actually appropriate for the role, and not based on how outside the box or inspired it could be. That's the hipster mindset manifesting itself even in the darkest corners of our forums

I agree with you that the person who is appropriate for the role should be cast.

What I don't agree with is simply casting someone just because they've played a similar role before. There's more that goes into casting then that and normally why type-casted actors fail in their careers.

It's also the reason why the fan-preferred choice rarely gets cast and everyone is let down. They'd rather have someone who can make their role into their own like Bale did with Batman or RDJ with Iron Man. If you look at their careers, you can see why they were cast for their specific role. Not because they were out-the-box and the studio/director just took a random risk, but because they saw certain qualities in them that they thought would make them perfect for the role.

That's what I like to see in fancasts is an actor picked because of skills and qualities that they have, instead of just, oh he played this character in the past, he'd be perfect.

And you'll note that I never see Dafoe was a bad choice.

It gets boring seeing the same actors in fancasts, and Dafoe isn't an inspired choice by any means, but I honestly think he's the perfect actor for the role, anyone else would be disappointing .

Dafoe would bring the Arkhamverse Joker to life, I have no doubt

Claims that certain fan-casts are "out of the box" often seem like excuses for inappropriate choices reflecting a lack of understanding of what the characters are really about.

Yep completely agreed. That's basically what prompted me to post my little rant. An outside the box choice isn't always automatically better than a more conventional, and maybe obvious choice.

I'd prefer Buscemi.

Steve Buscemi as Joker :p lol! Great actor, but i don't see it personally
