Claims that certain fan-casts are "out of the box" often seem like excuses for inappropriate choices reflecting a lack of understanding of what the characters are really about.

Who determines what the characters are really about, though? It all depends on what interpretation (there are countless interpretations of these characters) you're going for and what you think the actor could bring to the table. for example, Eisenberg seems pretty out-the-box for Luthor, but he has certain qualities that Synder wanted for his interpretation of the character. So I don't really think it's fair to say someone's fancast is automatically wrong unless of course, it's just an awful actor or it's someone who doesn't have the proven chops to pull it off or if they don't have the general look of the character.

It gets boring seeing the same actors in fancasts, and Dafoe isn't an inspired choice by any means, but I honestly think he's the perfect actor for the role, anyone else would be disappointing .

Dafoe would bring the Arkhamverse Joker to life, I have no doubt

Sigourney as Leslie Thompkins is great casting, Rodrigo.

EDIT: Although I fail to see how MM is considered an appropriate choice for The Joker, but Woody isn't.

Matthew can be a crazy SOB when he wants. I've seen that from Dallas Buyers Club and a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie.

Woody, I haven't seen that range

Woody has the range. Just look at his resume. He rarely plays two characters that are even similar. He's played a deranged serial killer before (Natural Born Killers), he can play the straight man as well (as we've seen in Game Change and True Detective). He's even played a crazy guy who thought he was a superhero. Perfect for the Joker and he's at his best when he's allowed to cut loose and have fun in Zombieland.

Much as I love MM and I think his career turn-around is great and the reason why there's a lot of hype around him is because it's recent. Woody has been doing the same for nearly two decades.

I really like Woody, he's awesome in Natural Born Killers, True Detective, heck even in Cheers.

But if we are fan casting him it should be as Mr.Freeze.
