The Batman Reboot Casting Thread - Part 7

I think it's a "I'm Matt Reeves and I'm doing my own thing because IDGAF" thing.
This :funny:
He said he was fine not doing it if WB wasn’t going to give him freedom to do what he wanted.
He’s doing it:woot:

That's understandable. What i dont understand is why doesnt he do his thing under the Elseworld label ( whatever it's going to be called) he would have even more freedom?

I think Reeves wants to tell his own Batman story without having to reference a wider DCEU, but that doesn't necessarily exclude that Batman from being used in the wider DCEU.

Let's say Matt Reeves makes a Batman movie with Jake Gyllenhaal. There are absolutely no mentions of Superman, Wonder Woman, Mother Boxes, Steppenwolf, or anything DCEU-related. That doesn't stop Gyllenhaal from appearing in a future Justice League movie. It simply means that Reeves' film can function as a complete stand-alone entity, while still being considered canon to the DCEU as a whole.

Yep yep i understand that. That said, if i follow your train of thoughts, Warner will cash in on hopefully his successful take. like if Nolan had done the trilogy, minus the ending with Warner being able to use it elsewhere.

ps: a recast with Jake in the same present continuity is going to be a weird one. I am sure that he will be great but still

Now, if they really establish the new take in one or two Batman movie, and IF they do a new team up movie, further along the line, transition could be smoother. It's gonna be interesting anyways, especially given the Reeves influences ( Seven, Zodiac) we could have a "Hush movie" or something along those lines...

i'm out :gngl:

Batman > DCEU

Just build a universe around a new guy, give it sequel tangent films with Robin, Nightwing and Batwoman in 10-15 years.

A young Bruce Wayne, early 20s at the most. A soft reboot with no origin story similar to Homecoming with small references. Build your universe around that Batman.

Early 20's? No thanks. And it's not happening. When you're that age, no offense to anyone who is at the moment, but you don't have gravitas to pull off what is needed for such a role. The only accurate depiction would be a early 20s Bruce who is tortured but who has a bit of a childish temper not unlike Kylo Ren in Star Wars. No thank you. I only want to see an actor portraying the character in his late 20's and older. Preferably in their 30's or 40's.

I always liked the idea that Bruce had an extended period of 'learning' he knew (eventually) that rushing out into the gotham night sky won't going to cut it - he needed to shut himself off from the world and just hone his skills.
30 years old and coming back to Gotham ready, is what i would do as the back story and have this Batman be about 35 years old.

Bruce Wayne/Batman: Jake Gyllenhaal
Alfred Pennyworth: Pip Torrens
Jim Gordon: Woody Harrelson
Dick Grayson/Nightwing: Joe Keery
Hugo Strange: Andy Serkis

Not sure I'm following.

For your consideration, good sir...

Dr. Thomas Elliot/Hush: Jason Clarke

Wouldn't surprise me if Keri Russell ends up in this. She has a history with Reeves and they love working together.

Keri Russel as Catwoman and Jason Clarke as Black Mask?

Pip Torrens as Alfred intrigues me. I LOVE his portrayal of Herr Starr in Preacher. Why would Jeremy Irons require a recast, though ? He's pretty fitting in the role himself.

And why Harrelson for Gordon ?

Why not? He can play a tough cop, be sympathetic and grow a mustache.

Strong actor with experience in mentor-like roles. Worked with Reeves before.

And I cannot disassociate Irons' Alfred from Affleck's Batman. If Affleck goes, Irons goes. His take on the character doesn't have the clout that Michael Gough had to carry on the role between Batman actors.

I don't see the point of recasting Alfred and Gordon. That would be too jarring because he's connected to the DC Universe. In fact, I would keep them on board to help the transition to a new actor as Batman. I'd also prefer someone else other than JG. I want an experienced Batman. I like the fact that Affleck's Batman has a history with Dick Grayson and Tim Drake and that he's fought the freaks already.

Jake is close to 40. And right now it's looking like they won't have to worry about connecting anything to the DCEU.

So do we just recast the entire DCEU-verse just because Affleck might be leaving ?

I’d say the chances of Reeves’s Batman movie being completely divorced from the DCEU went up about 100% this weekend.
