The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

That scene with Barry’s joker had my heart pounding. You could hear a pin drop in the theater. You could tell there was prosthetics around the nose and maybe the jaw/chin. and the hair almost reminded me of killing joke joker. Skin badly burned by acid or some chemicals from what I could make out.

the voice was unnerving at times. Really interested in where they take him.

That Batmobile entrance... dang...

The scene "technically" is so simple: just a car reving up its engine, but holy... it was like a dragon got inside the room.

I remember Reeves saying he wanted the car to look kinda out of an horror story, like an entity - he made the comparison to Stephen King's Christine and it indeed fits so perfectly well to that description.

For real?! Like that classic long narrow Joker chin??

Now that I think about it, maybe Joker will be influenced by Tyler Durden. It would be in keeping with the 90's aesthetic Reeves is going for. Or, maybe the early concept art for Ledger's Joker?

I think the whole "exposed teeth" thing is incorrect. I think he was just smiling.

Again, hard to tell because of the window grating but it seemed like his entire face has scarring.

The vibe is definitely "horror freakshow."

What a tease. And Reeves is gonna dangle that other deleted scene for months.

How did the audience in the theatre react? I'm worried that Joker will seem a bit ho-hum by the time he appears again.

For my audience, I feel like people didn’t necessarily know it was joker until the very end of that scene. Going into it, I kind of expected an opening night audience response to that scene, but it was very quiet.

Yeah quiet in my theater, though I did hear a few gasps when he said that clown line.

This movie really benefits alot from good screens with better color definitions (this must be like the 3rd or 4th time I post about it, lol).

And again, this is not about hyping up the movie or anything, it's just that if ppl don't wanna really lose anything from the experience, try to book it a top notch theatre room even if it takes some more time for you to see. You won't regret, I tell you.

I'm pretty sure when it releases in 4k, they'll make lots of money again, because of this rewatchability comparison alone

For months the very first thing I wanted to come in here for was to discuss Joker....and I was a bit disappointed! :funny:

It's enough of a tease I suppose, but I guess I just built up in my head how explosive Barry's debut would be, however brief.

The laugh was ehh. Sorry. It's the most iconic trait and you gotta hit that out of the park. Didn't do anything for me unfortunately.

But the good thing is Barry will have a long long time to nail down what his performance will be. I've got tremendous faith in his talents. I just hope this isn't another Leto situation where the hype is much ado about nothing.

Honestly my least favorite part of the movie was this Joker scene. But I guess it's doing its job since its what gets folks talking. To me Pattinson is so monumental in the role that I'd rather he face some new foes and not try to get upstaged by yet another scenary chewing Joker. Though the way it's presented in the movie, and the fact that Riddler survives and is in the asylum, you could pottentialy keep teasing the joker in the second movie and then do a full ARKHAM ASYLUM adaptation to end the trilogy.

Paul Dano was great in this. Completely unhinged at times. Some will say he was overacting, but he did a great job at playing an insane person.
I don't know if anyone else got this, but much of his line delivery (especially in the latter half) seemed to take a small smidgen of inspiration from Gorshin.

Particularly how loud he would get to emphasize certain words. Or even how he'd elongate his enunciation. I recently did a rewatch of the Adam West series, so Gorshin's performance is fresh in my mind. That would have been a cool detail to still bring that theatricality but in a more frightening way.

Any nods to the Adam West show?

There really weren't any blatant nods, as far as I can tell.

Even the part where he runs down the building on a cord didn't really feel like a nod like some have said.

When Batman is around the cops, it felt, to me, like a dark version of Adam West. But no, there weren't really any.

I loved Gordon, lol.

Do you guys remember the ending of Year One? Because thats totally as if they just picked up exactly from there. Batman and Jim have such a bro relationship. Their dynamic is extremelly similar to that of Year One and The Long Halloween.

And man, James is such a down to earth person. Really likeable. Not going about preaching idealism and righteousness around. Just a very everyday guy trying to do the right thing and finish his day with clean conscience.

He is the guy you would invite for a beer in a game or barbeque, really cool dude.

The Shakespeare bust was in Bruce's study.

And I don't know if it was intentional, but Oz's interrogation where Gordon and Bats were trading off guesses in solving the riddle gave me huge '66 show vibes with Batman/Gordon.
