The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

I’ve got to agree. He might be inevitable in appearing but he shouldn’t be wasted. From the Arkham games to Ledger to Phoenix, we’ve had some solid Joker stories in the last decade or so. If they’re going to use him I’d prefer if it’s in something unlike what we’ve seen, and really impactful.

Not just including the biggest nemesis to check the box. Freeze and the Court of Owls would definitely get my vote before Joker.

This means absolutely nothing. Every response is very noncommittal because they just got done with THIS movie. I have no doubt Joker shows up in the next one.

That’s what I’m saying. His movie just came out and he’s going to be vague about a sequel that comes out in like two years. He’s been going way in depth about his version of the Joker to make me think it’s just that small cameo.

I think based off of the reception of the cameo and the film in general, with the level of detail and care they put into what was essentially a shadow/outline, I find it hard to believe Reeves won't get the itch to put him in the sequel.

Especially because we could very well be looking at a No Man's Land setup, with a big power grab, it seems pretty natural.

But it is his script and film so I guess we'll just have to take him at his word when he says "I dunno" lol.

Now that Reeves got to do his 'never done before' detective story. it will be very interesting to see what will guide him for the sequel.

After Pete Savage is murdered, who became the Commissioner? Was it the guy in the interrogation room scene with the mustache? The one who gives Gordon two minutes to get Batman to cooperate

He falls in love with a frozen corpse - let's say she is crudely known as 'Ms Freeze' by the staff that work there, a relic from the past of operation paper clip and the like - Fries works on a way to help her. He defends her and calls himself Mr Freeze as her husband.. What he does, is get women, sick women, from hospices etc, even healthy women, he freezes them and tries to unthaw them and naturally he can't revive them or repair damaged arteries and veins etc - corpses keep showing up showing signs of frost bite, frozen tissue etc. He's a great side villain.

A freeze gun will pretty much burn and crumble the flesh it touches, anything else will be unrealistic.

What he does wear is like a safety suit, like a hazmat, of sorts, to keep him from being hurt from the liquids he uses..

That is an option - but that has little to do with Victor Fries as a character. This universe will end up being quite medium if every character is robbed of their core traits just to be more grounded.

Freeze’s brutality is always in aid of getting a cure for Nora, and he’s rarely a mad scientist as much as he’s a distraught husband willing to do whatever he needs to to save his wife.
The emotion is the story.
Exactly. I can’t imagine in a universe where the bat-grapple, a jet-powered Batmobile and some pseudo-Venom stimulant exists they can’t find a way to do almost any other villain justice. I can understand not wanting to do magical/alien elements, but Freeze, Firefly, even Poison Ivy can fit in this universe.

The Arkham games minus supernatural things like Ra’s seem like a good sign post to use for this universe. Coincidentally the way the movie ends actually sets it up perfectly for a version of the Arkham City storyline.

I feel all his villains are perfectly able to be grounded in our reality, but have that hint of 'Gotham' to them...

Reeves intentions with the Joker really seems to be "maybe, but who knows?" and I'm kinda glad. it's clear that even though he's one of the most famous villains in film history, he has been used a lot, and I think Reeves is interested in other villains that he can bring to this world. That being said, I wouldn't be shocked to see him in a spin-off. Whatever feels natural I think.

I hope we don't see him fo a while... just because I feel this director doesn't need him, yet..

That’s an interesting take but it basically becomes an Elseworld’s version of Freeze. He’s not generally some weird freak, he’s actually one of the few villains who isn’t a nutjob. He’s so tunnel-visioned on saving Nora he’ll kill to do it, but he isn’t crazy. A Freeze that’s basically a predator killing other women to save a frozen woman he develops feelings for is quite a departure.

I really hope they don’t deviate so far from characters’ general portrayals just in service of “grounding” the movie. There were more than enough indications that technology is sufficiently advanced to do most villains as they appear in source material.

The emotion is the story.

Can’t disagree there

I feel all his villains are perfectly able to be grounded in our reality, but have that hint of 'Gotham' to them...

From what I picked up I think the technology in this universe is a shade up from Nolan’s, so I think BTAS/Arkham style villains will fit if they choose to go that route.

He had all the best scenes.

I liked the small touch where Bruce's eyes hurt due to the sunlight that he had to wear sunglasses

I wish we saw more of the terminal. We got one sweeping shot when we first see it and then we don't see much of it later

I'm surprised we didn't a heroic suit up scene. It's funny how many times the movie shifted from Batman to Bruce

Batman in the iceberg lounge

Goes outside as drifter Bruce to chase Selina

Becomes Batman again.

He worked with Batman at Riddlers apartment. We should deputize him as a Robin. :D

Seeing it for the 3rd time tomorrow absolutely loved the film. My only complaint is I wish the fight scenes had went on longer. There was such a build up to hearing him coming up the stairs and emerging out of the darkness and then when the beat down started it was over just like that. Just a little nitpick
I’d agree. Was so good that I wanted more each time and some of them felt over a little too quickly.

Seeing this a second time tonight. Very excited. I cancelled my viewing for last night, as I can't watch a three hour movie three nights in a row, so it's best to rest on it before going again.
Good strategy. I don’t enjoy long films anywhere near as much when I’m tired.

I loved the changes… and that’s why his jacket is so baggy. He’s got the suit on underneath. And only store the cape/cowl and gloves in his bag.

Nah, pretty sure that's the police chief. I'd assume movie 2 is gonna start with Gordon as Savage's replacement

Also was very pleasantly surprised with how well Zoe Kravitz did in this. She held her own in her scenes and really understood the assignment. Such good chemistry with her and Battinson.

Really hope they give her a Holly Robinson and a spinoff movie or limited series.

Here’s my question. Riddler lived above the Iceberg Lounge and surely saw Falcone come and go a lot. He could have shot him at any time so why did he wait?

Another great, in depth interview with Reeves here. They get into some fun stuff here about Rob being cast in Tenet right before Reeves wanted to bring him in to audition and how Reeves was worried there was no way he'd do both.

Idk how he has the stamina for all this press, but he really does seem like a genuinely kind-hearted guy. I hope he gets a nice week-long nap soon.

I love how Reeves has a Gordon mustache.

Yeah, I was tired after that Thursday night showing. I didn't want to feel like crap going into it and not giving it my attention.
I'm like this too. It's part of the reason I'm glad the fan event didn't work out for me. I went Thursday in the afternoon and then Friday again the afternoon. Took a break today and am going again tomorrow with some people.

One of my minor critiques would be that they didn’t dive into the Riddler’s personality nearly enough. A usual hallmark is that he’s a bit of a narcissist, compulsively engages in riddles, and has a superiority complex.

The way they normally write him his objective wouldn’t simply have been to kill Falcone. His objective is firstly to toy with people he finds less intelligent, and then in this universe he expressly communicates he saw himself and Batman as a team. So killing Falcone in front of Batman after bread-crumbing the whole corrupt saga is precisely what would fit his MO. He’s a performer at heart and loves an audience he can insult for being less intelligent than him.
