The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

Also was very pleasantly surprised with how well Zoe Kravitz did in this. She held her own in her scenes and really understood the assignment. Such good chemistry with her and Battinson.

Really hope they give her a Holly Robinson and a spinoff movie or limited series.
She seems perfect for Catwoman. Couldn’t really have asked for much more in this debut and as you say, the chemistry with Pattinson was so good. A series is a must and would be a massive boost for HBO Max if they went ahead with it.

He had all the best scenes.

When I saw this clip before the movie I was thinking they had met before this scene.

Here’s my question. Riddler lived above the Iceberg Lounge and surely saw Falcone come and go a lot. He could have shot him at any time so why did he wait?
To my knowledge Riddler only came up with his plan a short while before, and his He probably was so beholden to his plan that it had to go exactly as he laid it out. He NEEDED an audience.

Yep, and that’s what I love about Riddler in general across media. :D

It’s one of his most common character traits. The whole point of most of his elaborate schemes is being able to explain to people why only a guy as smart as him could’ve come up with it and why their puny brains are too simple to understand it.

That’s why the whole social media follower thing made sense for this version. He needed an audience validating how smart he was, and he found them the modern way. It’s also why he got so angry when Batman refused to acknowledge him as some kind of genius in the interrogation.

I absolutely love the attention-seeking and petty side of this guy. He totally needs people to know exactly how clever he was in setting everything up so perfectly. :funny:

Did anyone else's theater get any laughs when Batman found the thumb drive?
My theater laughed pretty hard, but what really got my theater rolling was Gordon reacting to it. "Oh, this guy's hilarious..." Gordon got two out of three of the biggest laughs of the movie with my audience, with that and Wright's fake angry performance in the station, alongside "Good cop, bat**** cop?"

Anyone else think it was interesting how the Cat thief thing was done? She only stole twice in the film (I think) and one was for her friend and another because of a fairly legitimate right to the cash.

It made her a lot more interesting then just stealing because she wanted too.

Yep. He was written so damn well, and him priding himself on his intellect is peak Riddler in all forms of Batman content. I'm so satisfied, especially as someone who's wanted to see a new live action Riddler for years.

He's the new gold standard man.

I really don't scare easy with films, but Dano really petrified me with his Riddler. Then when he was having his meltdown with Batman at Arkham and those sounds he made, he was very chilling.

Loved every bit of the Riddler and that they called him that in story.

Absolutely. The bomb collar scene really shocked me. He exploded on colson and then proceeded to give him the 3 riddles. The tension was superb. I keep bringing up that scene because it was much more intense than I had anticipated. And then obviously that Arkham scene too.

How did you guys feel about the twist with Bruce's parents?

Falcone's conversation with Bruce had me feeling a way, but then Reeves saved it with that follow-up scene with Alfred in the hospital. I was just worried because tainting the reason why Bruce becomes Batman in the first place by making his parents some dirty people, I wouldn't have agreed with, but I ultimately liked the direction that story took.

Martha being in the Arkham family was an interesting choice too.

I thought it was funny he used his regular voice for his live stream

"Hey guys. How's its going?"

and then the side comments

"You can get the goggles at the Gotham Army Surplus! "

"Who's bringing rifles?"
I can imagine all his followers getting so excited when he posts anything or comes on live. Ha yeah, they came up with some great lines. :D

I like where it ends up, but I find the execution of it to be one of the weaker points of the fim. It's too much back and forth too quickly. "Thomas Wayne had him killed" to "Yeah, I did it for him, also Maroni killed your parents" to "Well kinda but not nearly as bad as that and also Falcone probably did it" in the span of five minutes. I feel like the revelation didn't get enough time to really sink in before the real truth of it came out.

Felt like the perfect balance. It makes them flawed, but not bad people. I didn’t like the approach taken in the Joker much. I understand the topical symbolism of every rich white person basically being the antichrist being popular right now, but the Wayne’s always have to be inherently decent.

If they’re not then their legacy is irrelevant and Bruce’s entire quest to continue that legacy of redeeming Gotham is as well. This walked a good line between them being saints and sinners.
