The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

I think any movie, not only the batman, no way it can please anyone. Not everyone loves The Dark Knight, well i have a friend myself that cant understand why everyone loved it. And ppl online or irl who still talked bad about Robert or skeptics about the project itself, they just need the movie to convince them. For some ppl like that, they wont change their opinion unless they want to. And as of now, at least till they see the movie, they wont.

So what is this supposed "controversy" in the plot that some of these people who've attended screenings are speaking about? I've read the leaks and I assume it has to be either the focus on mental illness, the unusual/non-traditional third act for a CBM film or is it how brutal/dark the film is?

I don't really think there is anything in this film that will spark controversy...

The Usual Suspects callout stood out to me. Can't help but wonder if there's going to be some major twist based on that, since let's face it- that's what the movie is most known for.

Honestly, the only thing I can think of is some of the riddler traps being too brutal. Maybe he is thinking there is going to be some angry families coming out of this movie because of that. That or he's talking out of his ass.

That seems somewhat plausible, but from what I've heard, the mayor's death isn't all that brutal, he just beats him with his bare hands. No gore or over the top graphic images. Colson dies via explosive device. And Savage is killed in a trap where rats eat his face, but apparently it's shown off screen and only implied. I personally don't think that's too brutal (because it isn't shown), but I can definitely understand how it might be too dark for young kids

So the ending essentially sets up a No Man's Land/Year Zero type of sequel?

From what I've been able to analyze, Riddler seems to bludgeon the mayor to death with the ice pick he's seen with on the McFarlane figure and statue

The only controversial thing I can think of is the Wayne's being corrupt and Martha having a history of Mental Illness and spending some brief time at Arkham.

There is another thread for leaks, if anyone interested to know on r/dceuleaks, go there if you want to read full.

Edit: I decide to post only his subjective opinion

There is another thread for leaks, if anyone interested to know: personally i only read the final thoughts. Cool. Seems like for some ppl this either will be on par/slightly below/better than TDK for comparison.

This person's main complaint seems to be the third act. They said it felt like it needed an extra scene or two. How long were the test screenings? Is it possible that they added scenes for better pacing? The movie is 176 minutes now so.

On the Joker
"It’s as everyone else that’s spoken about it has already said. You really can’t see much. You see white, but you can’t tell if it’s bleached or paint. If nothing else, you see Barry’s nose. The hair is a bit curly, but it’s short."

"He’s not menacing or evil clown type. He’s like classic joker if anything."

"I didn’t see him long enough to make an informed opinion."

"[Keoghan] is [the Joker], but it’s hard to see. All I saw was his nose and a white face. Others claim they saw scars but I didn’t catch it."

Gotta be bleached then. If he's an inmate they're not gonna let him put on makeup.

I was going to ask this, and I believe VA said the test screenings were 2:40-2:45. Whether that's with or without credits, I'm unsure.

So, for the folks who have seen the movie. Is this a true statement? I don’t really trust this guy after eternals lol

To this day I still don't understand the apoplectic reaction to Joker. All those early reactions had me thinking it was going to be supremely ****ed up. Instead, I got a well-made, pretty safe film imo

If some of the reports about scars and his face being mangled are accurate, maybe his white skin is all scar tissue, like either from falling in a vat of chemicals or some other crazy accident. Maybe that's too similar to Two Face.

I do wonder if having Joker appear in this movie, if there's no tangible reason for it other reason than world-building, could be a risk. I mean, I'm definitely curious about it. But I think it could rub some people the wrong way considering how ever-present the character has been as of late, and with this already being a very long film. At the same time, it might be best to rip the band-aid off and let people definitively know that this doesn't take place in the Joker-verse, considering how popular that movie was.

I think I'm a prime candidate for being rubbed the wrong way as I've been pretty vocal about being sick of seeing the character. Didn't like the Leto version, really didn't like Joker 2019, just think the character needs a break. But the idea of this scene still excites me.

It could be really cool, no doubt. All depends on the execution.
