The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

It's quite curious that when we reflect most "detailedly" about the plot of the movie, we get to notice/realise basically everything that happened started really because the Waynes were actually trying actively to do a good thing - they started living in the tower because donated the manor to become an orphanage (after refurbishing it from a fire - reminded me of TDKR here) and Thomas created a billion dollar program (The Gotham Renewal) funded by his own fortune solely. After his and Martha's deaths, the city administration just abandoned the orphanage and every corrupt wanted a piece of the fortune in the program he developed - this is basically the main point tying everything in the film.

Should be noted that, for a moment, Bruce is absolutely broken when he starts doubting his father - he is really ready to just abandon everything, his Batman plans, and just let dive deep into extreme depression. Alfred is the one who points he is being played at and acting impulsively, without a clear picture of what happened, and explains him away these doubts.

Art do you happen to whistle Little Willie John's 'Fever' when you make these posts? Because right now you're just being a massive tease.

Oh was Martha being an Arkham from the comics? I swear I remember a run where she was an Arkham.

Also nice Blüdhaven reference!
The idea of Martha being an Arkham originates from Geoff Johns and Scott Frank’s Earth One graphic novel. In the main Batman continuity Martha’s maiden name is Martha Kane(which is a nod to Batman co-creator, Bob Kane).

Well, Joker (um, the forum member) seemed surprised that Joker was in this movie, but given this is the spoiler thread, I guess we can be more specific.

The clip can probably be found on youtube, but really, I'm not sure what more I can say other than it appears to be the complete Riddler/Joker scene, and plays out exactly as the reports have been saying. I find Barry's voice a tad high pitched, almost as if he were attempting to do a Heath Ledger impression. He appears to be seen mostly in profile behind the glass of his cell.

The shot of Riddler kicking the wall of his cell comes from this scene. I can't describe what Joker looks like really because it's so dark. I can tell you that he has spiky hair. My first reaction was that it's the kind of spiky hair you'd see in a 90's boy band, that kind of wet look.

He also has a high pitched cackle, although I didn't really get the hyenah sound others had mentioned. But the scene concludes with the two laughing, as the camera zooms out of the hallways of the prison.

Was literally everything I've ever wanted. It was a batman graphic novel come to life. Pattinson carries this. They really weren't lying when they said he was in almost every single scene, and he spoke A LOT in costume, and somehow you can see everything going on in his head just by his eyes, mouth and body language. Absolutely incredible.

Just saw it. Cheers for pointing the way, Art. :cwink: I'd describe his laugh as very childish sounding, oddly enough. Someone said he sounded like Ledger. I don't hear anything of Ledger in his voice. It just sounds like Keoghan's regular voice tbh.

Yes, his body language and acting through the suit is definitely the best of any Batman. There are a few scenes of him as Bruce, but he is almost always seen as Batman in this which couldn’t have been easy for Rob. Not that other Batman actors haven’t been good at this to an extent, but because we see so much more of this Batman doing all kinds of things other than fighting or simply looking cool, his Batman persona is so well developed.

Love the way he slowly turns his eyes before his head, matched which the black makeup around the eyes. Very cool. His lip curling up on one side was a nice touch, and we see him at so many different emotion levels. He even has different voices as Batman based on what’s going on. Like you said, you can see and feel what’s going on in his head based on his eyes and expressions.

Really happy for Battinson because he killed it.

Tell me I'm wrong about the hair, though. He kind of looks like Tyler Durden in profile.

Thanks for sharing the details. Personally, it's really hard to see from the clip I found, but yeah, I see what you mean about the hairstyle. While not a 1 for 1 translation, I find it reminds me a lot of how Bolland drew the Joker in The Killing Joke. Less curly obviously, but in terms of the verticality and how it frames Joker's face.

Rob said in a interview that he is almost like a witch doctor that Gordon turns to because he is so desperate for anything and he seems to be able to get **** done and that's the best description of the Batman in this movie.

No, you're correct about the hair Art. From what little we can make out, the image that it most corresponded to, for me, was the Arkham Origins Joker tbh.

Couldn't make out much of Keoghan's face. Hair seemed Bolland-ish. There is something going on with his face but impossible to tell what. The window grating obscured things too much.

Skin also looked jaundiced but I suspect that was due to the lighting of the sun coming through the back. Can't tell the color otherwise.

Also, just want to clarify I haven't actually seen the movie, just saw the Joker clip. For those of you who have seen the movie, does the Joker give that "one day you're a king, next day a clown"? speech? The clip I saw seems to start just after it.

Yep. Then he says, "But I suppose there are worse things to be," or something to that effect.
