The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

That is high praise! While Nolan rightfully gets criticism for his staging of hand-to-hand combat, he is an undisputed master of vehicular action.

Meh I found a lot of the chases in the Nolan films to be rather lame. The one in Begins is great but I hated the Batpod after the second viewing. This is (I have been using this word a lot) visceral...when the Batmobile revs the engine your adrenaline rises and some of the shots are very much like Friedkin in French Connection where you feel like you are in the car with Penguin and Batman.

I can totally see that. Even just watching the Cat Burglar clip they released, i was taken by how visceral Selina's safe cracking was. The combo of framing, editing, and sound design, you could feel her unrolling her tools on the floor and and drilling into the safe. Very punchy and visceral.

Just back from watching this. I have many thoughts but definitely a kickass movie. A 9/10 for me. Need more time to process but I would love to watch it again. Will write a review while memory is still fresh.

Some discussion points for those who has watched the movie: I really like the investigation angle, though I am not sure if it helps Batman's world greatest detective title. It's great to see Batman showing some of his intelligence here but it seems that he was totally outsmarted by Riddler all the way with no come back at all. Bale Batman was still outsmarted by Joker but he did go into offensive some times. Pattinson Batman was strung all along.... Kinda mixed feelings.

I'll say the chase scenes in the Nolan films felt very much like a Nolan film whereas the chase scene in The Batman felt like a chase scene in the comics or Batman The Animated Series. Both are great in their own ways.

I can get behind that comparison :)

He is in Year 2 he wouldn't be the World's Greatest Detective yet. Riddler is probably unlike anything he has seen.

Hopefully the detective angle is one of the elements which stays consistent throughout this series.

It makes sense to highlight it in a Riddler story, but maybe next time we can see a more proactive approach to his deductive skills with a different type of villain.

Yeah I get that, a very reasonable thing as Riddler is Batman's first real challenge. It's good to see all the detective works though, but Batman being outsmarted is so cliched that I really wanted him to win this time. Too bad about that.

I will forever love the Nolan films and I hate to compare but it's almost human nature.

What The Batman does better compared to the TDK trilogy IMO...
  • Gotham feels more real and alive
  • The supporting cast matters - no matter how small their part is
  • The "comedy parts" didn't feel forced
  • The fight scenes came across as real as possible
Again this isn't a knock at the TDK trilogy but something that was noticeably better

Can anyone tell me at the end, why Batman had to grapple up to the wire, then cut off the wire so he could fall into the water? Why not just jump into the water directly? I think I probably missed something here.

The wire was hot/live and about to make contact with the water where people were stranded waist deep, he had to cut it to stop the electricity from killing/hurting everyone.

How are the fight scenes and do they really present bats as the worlds greatest detective

I think the Jumbotron wire was going to electrocute everyone in the water, so he cut off the power supply

I admit I got a bit tripped up by the "el rata alada," "la rata alada" stuff. Anyone mind explaining?

Eh, it was cool to see in the movie but ain’t nothing is touching me eyeballs. I refused contacts and elected for glasses, so I doubt my mind changes, even for that black mirror future stuff

It's Spanish for "winged rat" or "flying rat"

The riddle solution was "You are El Rata Alada", El is the Masculine "The" in Spanish but Rata is a feminine word, so it should have La before it which is the feminine "The" in Spanish.

Then Batman spells it out saying Riddler makes no mistakes, so when he said "You are El Rata Alada", he meant URL rataalada
