The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

I sawt he Elliot references and of course the HUSH easter egg but I never figured that he was Nashton's father? Was he? Does anyone know what 2 pieces of ID he offered in the diner? I think one said Nashton but the other was someone else and he wouldn't say which one he was.

Yeah, I think he told the officers to guess or something like that?

Unrelated to this, but just since it's fresh in my mind after last night. I forget where I posted it on this forum, but I did say one thing I hoped for is that I'd like to see a Joker that's already incarcerated. So I'm happy that, at least for this moment, this take on the clown is already locked up in Arkham.

There's just as much interesting stuff to do with him behind bars as there is when he's running rampant. Plus, there's tons more villains in Batman's gallery to mine, and I'm sure that Reeves and company have ideas on who they'd want to see in addition to eventually tackling the Joker.

I dont want Joker either. I feel a bit Joker'd out since WB has been spamming the character a lot recently. Let other Batman villains shine. Its time to bring in Victor Freeze and give him his due. Freeze has the potential to be one of Batman's greatest, most tragic onscreen villains if done well.

There will be no Mr. Freeze dude, no room for him at this universe, not even joker fell into an acid tank, you wont see fantastical elements

I don't agree there. While Reeves far from confirmed Freeze for a sequel, He said it's a character he's interesting in adapting in a grounded world. Anything is possible at this point.

I think a killer with a gun that shoots ice bullets (which leaves no ballistic trace) would fit right in, kinda like the compressed air gun in No Country for Old Men.

Or another take, just a guy that freezes people to death in freezers.

And a guy doing anything to save the one he cares for would make for an interesting follow up given Bruce’s newfound appreciation for Alfred (and now Selina).

He said that, the same way he said Superman would be "interesting", he clearly doesnt want to disappoint some fans, if we get a trilogy, Riddler and Joker will return at the final movie, thats for sure, Reeves is building that, so....the only way we could get a Mr. Freeze, would be in the second movie, after watching it twice, im sure that will not happen, being realistic, everything points to Hush, Penguin, and...maybe Hugo Strange? Remember an Arkham series is being produced, and dont forget a new D.A must be hired......

The Hush nod was great.

I’m not sure if he will do another detective story, but I think Hush/ Court of Owls would make a good crime thriller. Like No Country for Old Men.

I do think Hush is probably more likely, especially with the nods. Also Two Face as well. Either way, I trust Reeves with whoever he chooses.

Im 70% sure he will be the main villain in the next one, Reeves almost confirmed it yesterday

I don’t think they need to “ground” villains to the point where they’re all conventional criminals/ serial killers that have minor elements of their traditional characters. Based on Batman’s tech there’s clearly sophisticated technology in this universe, definitely enough to do someone like Freeze justice.

If they did Freeze it could easily be explained as someone with a condition that makes them run a terminal fever all the time, so he needs a cooling suit. Freeze and a Heart of Ice/Arkham City Freeze arc would fit perfectly into this universe. It would also be cool to see this Batman help save Nora.

Not sure to be honest. I've loved Reeves since the Apes movies, which I think are still criminally underrated, but he seems to love exploring grittier themes. Finding hope and optimism through a prism of suffering. I have no doubt he could make a good movie with the Superman story, but would that necessarily be the best choice for Supes?

I also kinda don't want to see Superman or any other JL members connected to this Batverse, if I'm being honest. I love Batman as a character but I always thought his best stories were the ones with the fewest ties to the wider DC universe. I would much rather see them invest and expand on the Batverse, finally do Robin and co. justice.

The reason this movie worked so well is Reeves really nailed that feeling of Gotham being like a prison the citizens are trapped in. It's like a dark swamp and there's no escaping it. Batman is the only source of hope and he's a flawed, dark figure to even provide that properly. To me that illusion breaks a little the more I think about bright and shiny metropolis or other stuff like that.

That said, I DO slightly wish Reeves wasn't so against some of the more fantastical elements of the Batman verse. Like it's a shame that it might mean never getting to see a proper Ivy or Freeze or people like that. That said, I'm definitely hungry for more of this universe and whatever it involves.

So, I saw the movie last night, but before I get to that, I mirrored your sentiments last week where I said this batman to me, from what I have seen, looks so real, that adding in the rest, may shift the tone - a flying man? a fish man, a princess warrior made of clay? A part of me wanted to see them added to this universe... then a part of me was like no, it won't work... however, the same reason I don't want other villains bought in, as it might not work for the same reason.

So.. the movie... it was exactly what I thought it was... it was very very good.

This was no super hero movie.. this was no marvel mimicking movie, this was the closest I have seen to a relatable, realistic batman.. in a real world setting...

This was the batman movie for the adults that grew up with Keaton/Burton... in the sense that dad watches this, he let's his kids watch burton's movies as a go between.

I would rather he be a murderer that freezes and tortures his victims with liquid hydrogen.... like a mad scientist, going extreme....

So do we like if he ends up being one of the Robins? I do…

Hush is the worst Batman villain of all time. I'm not in to the Court of Owls and Mr Freeze but I'll gladly take them over Hush. I fear Reeves is too much influenced by Loeb. There are so many better options out there. Hugo Strange, Poison Ivy, Professor Pyg, etc.

Did anyone else catch Riddler’s alternate identity? It was Patrick something. I was so caught up in the scene that I missed it.

Hush is fun but I worry about another villain with ties to Bruce’s family/past.

Professor Pyg is an intro-villain or secondary role. I couldn’t see him (nor would I want to) as the main villain. But it’d be great to see Batman wail on him.

It was like Patrick Pratick or some such. No Easter egg from the comics.

Joker is already happening so just prepare your mind for it. You maybe Jokered our but I guarantee the general public who these movies are for are not tired of it. They eat that stuff up.

That is an option - but that has little to do with Victor Fries as a character. This universe will end up being quite medium if every character is robbed of their core traits just to be more grounded.

Freeze’s brutality is always in aid of getting a cure for Nora, and he’s rarely a mad scientist as much as he’s a distraught husband willing to do whatever he needs to to save his wife.

I can’t be Joker’d out. I only dislike bad Joker adaptations.

It’s like saying I’m Batman’d out. I’ll take 7 more please.

That’s a pretty neat idea; especially the adaptation of his ice weaponry. Good call.

As Batman battles this new killer, he learns of his tragic past and his drive to find the cure for his wife. Maybe Fries is working for Hush who promises him the $$ and resources to help Nora.

With the mention of Elliot, and the linked childhoods, I thought Riddler was going to end up secretly being Thomas Elliot.

Now it’d just seem so repetitive.

At this point I think a Hush/Clayface amalgamation would be the best way to use him, maybe someone Joker uses to frame Bruce and get him locked up in Arkham.
