The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

Anyone else notice the one conversation inserted just to pass the Bechdel test? You can say the Selina and Anika call passes it but in order to leave no confusion or people trying to talk technicalities, they introduced Carla via the ID system at the iceberg lounge and have Selina and her talk for 3 sentences about Anika.

There's literally no point to the scene and we find out nothing we didn't already know, the only reason for the existence of that scene is to prevent the people who ***** about the Bechdel test from saying it doesn't pass.

I disagree. Selina went to chase after her which led to her bumping into Falcone for the first time.

Just to clarify... he didn't know bruce was batman, but assumed bruce was one everyone's hit list?

Yes. In the beginning of the Arkham interrogation Riddler talks like he know Batman = Bruce Wayne

Batman gets tense and looks at the security camera. Then the as the riddler continues talking you see he doesn’t know

“Ohhhhhh. Bruce Wayne. He’s the only one that got away”

Batman in his head- Oh. He doesn’t know. Good.

That's how I saw it, but I didn't totally pick up on it... thing is, riddler kills corrupted people... why did he feel bruce deserved to die?

thanks

I think he only wanted Bruce to die because he personally had a vendetta against him for taking the attention away when Nashton was a child.

Also because he wanted someone to pay, that's where the Sins of my father thing comes into play.

thanks

Bruce had the money and means to preserve the renewal project, which is where Ed suffered. But Bruce obviously let all of that go to waste as his only mission was Batman.

Would I be wrong to think that if Reeves were to expand the universe, on paper only... and wrote a pitch for a superman movie, it would be a superman movie unlike we have ever seen before....

Like, I thought merging superman to the Nolan verse would be hard....but this... it felt so real.... I honestly... I don't think we will see the rest in this world...

I can't imagine watching a movie and then getting irked at a very brief scene because it superficially passes the Bechdel test. It's almost like you'd have to be closely looking out for such a scene, knives out, ready to be triggered by even the hint of a scene like that.

Anyone find it funny how people knew Batman was “Vengeance” even though they were nowhere near to hear or know about it?

“oh hey. Did you meet Vengeance” here?”

“Cmon Vengeance. Let’s get into some trouble”

It’s like Batman ran around town just saying “ I am Vengeance” to everyone

thanks

The riddler was jealous of Bruce

“Oh Bruces parents got murdered. Nothing a bunch of money and living in your tower can’t solve.

then the renewal funds got dispersed to all the corrupt officials so they can rise to power

thanks

He didn't see Bruce as a true orphan because he was privileged. His parents died but still filthy rich, inherits their wealth and money, gets to live in a tower, still affluent. Nashton had to suffer in a poor, destitute orphanage. He didn't see or acknowledge Bruce's pain or what Bruce had to go through as a tragedy. Plus since he saw the Waynes as corrupt, Bruce is simply a child of corrupt parents. Guilt by association.

He said it to the Joker thugs. Word might've gotten around.

I was thinking the same thing. Was it maybe in the news at some point?

Edit: I guess it could be apart of the myth and story of "The Batman" like how a lot of scary stories and figures have lore attached to them.

one of the thugs at the beginning recorded the fight on his phone.

Yeah they recorded the fight and uploaded it like the video you saw of the thugs harassing other people. They do it to brag and inadvertently made The Batman a mythic figure.

Thought it was weird they left it ambiguous how Bruce’s parents died. Guess now we’ll never know.

I think that's the idea. They're bringing it back to the idea that the Waynes' murder was never solved. It's the one case Batman can't crack. I like that they left it up in the air. Like when Bats was looking Falcone in the eye at that last bit of him, it's kinda like "damn. Now I'll REALLY never know"

I may be wrong, but that was one of the main differences between Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis Batman. Pre-Crisis he knew Joe Chill did it and Post he did not. I may be wrong though I was never a big Batman comic fan until much later on and was working at a comic shop so I could read all the trades. Then Morrison did Batman and Robin with Dick as Batman and I was all in!

Hearing ideas like this just makes me hope that Matt and Rob stay signed on for more than a trilogy. I want a Batman franchise. Give us 5 films. Make it the definitive Batman. I know it's a lot to ask but imagine Matt doing 5 films. I feel like no one would touch this character again for a long time if Matt makes 5 movies.

I don’t see that happening because of Reeves’ age. He’s 55. Unless he’s OK doing Batman films as he approaches 70, he’s not doing more than a trilogy. Especially since he’s mentioned he’d like to do a few original smaller films if he can get them funded after Batman.

Went again this afternoon. Flew by even faster. So much to love. No complaints. It’s all just so… “Batman”. Feels like a fully realized universe in a way that so few comic book movies do these days. The interplay of the design of the city and the score bring me huge Burton vibes in a way that Nolan never did. Gotham is a character and Reeves knows that better than most.

Riddler really grew on me with viewing 2. Love what they did with the character. Seems like a very realistic approach in 2022.

I have a feeling he was saying that vengeance line to every thug he would beat up
I actually think so too, because after he said it you can hear one of the thugs in the background very faintly say "Holy ****. It's him!"

I don't know. I don't think it would take 15 years to make 5 films personally. I think it can all be done approximately in this decade. It's just a matter of commitment. Obviously, his plan is to probably make a trilogy, but I just think this is an opportunity for them to really stamp their own legacy on this character once and for all, making it the complete version which can never be surpassed. I'd still be incredibly satisfied with a trilogy, I just think that, after seeing this film and experiencing the world of Gotham they created, I think there's a big opportunity for them to do 5 films.
