The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

I'm just not into this look at all.

I was fine with a look inspired by Gwynplaine, I was excited for a modern interpretation of the permasmile.

This is an undeniably grotesque, monstrous, circus freak. No amount of makeup or makeover, can mask that. I'm getting flashbacks of 2005-2006, and this is exactly the type of reinterpretation I was absolutely scared of happening.

I like how monstrous he looks. There's no white in there, but I wonder if that'll be more of a "changing in light" type of thing.

The look isn’t really my thing but I love the performance. Really creepy and childlike almost.

I just love that they’ve skipped the part of the Batman/Joker dynamic we’ve all seen a million times (their first encounter) and decided to cut right to the cool stuff that we’ve never really seen on film, i.e. the Joker as this established enemy of Batman that gets under his skin in a way no one else really can.

I'm not feeling it myself, dunno if the design or laugh/or the acting but its interesting dynamic that they already met before. Not necessary for the movie though so personally im glad they cut it

Thank god the deleted scene was the payoff for the Rataalada stuff. I couldn’t really make out what he was saying at times, but man he looks haunting. Wasn’t that into it at first either, but as they showed more of the face, I got drawn in. Liked his laugh at the end too. I’m in.

cool scene, i think keoghan looks good as the joker. its different and monstrous.
and i dig his performance here.

the only thing is i have a hard time understanding what he's saying at times. lol

Between Nicholson, Ledger, Leto and Phoenix, I'm okay with Reeves changing things up a bit. It's certainly the most horrific, grotesque version of the character to date, but I think it works very well with the established aesthetic of this universe.

Different strokes, of course. If it's not your thing, it's just not your thing. I suspect you're going to have plenty of people in your camp. An extreme look like this is gonna divide people for sure.

I could definitely barely understand what he's saying but he looks absolutely monstrous. Reeves saying this Joker was born with the smiling thing threw me off because he definitely looks like he took an acid bath here. So I'm interested for the future.

Either his congenital disease goes far beyond having a permanent grin, or he took a chemical bath on top of having that.

Maaaaan if this is what the Joker looks like, imagine what Two-Face would look like! (would probably be missing half his head LOL).

Hopefully, Batman will figure out to check the Dark Web in the next movie. Or 4chan.

Im thinking it’s the latter, because he looks like someone who has been severely burned by chemicals. I might be mistaken though.

I'm ok with changing it up, but everyone has a threshold of where it starts becoming too unfamiliar. The patchy bald head, the extreme scarring, no chalk-white skin -- there's so little here that calls back to the character's iconic look.

I don't know, I guess I'm a little hopeful that Reeves continues to refuse calling him Joker. Maybe he has an ace up in his sleeve when that transformation hits.

For what it's worth I've a better impression of Barry here than the one in the film. The reveal of his mouth and ensuing laughter was effective. Despite the extreme scarring, it was the one moment where it was undeniably "Joker". Maybe I'll have to settle for the performance carrying the rest of the character.

It looks like what's going on with his mouth is one thing (born with it) and then the chemical burns are something else.
