I've already said this in another thread, but powerless doesn't have to mean physical power, it could be about his position. And since people are turning on Superman, Alfred may be scared that he can become cruel and turn on the people he tried to save.

Hell, it could be about Lex, for all we know.

That's a good point. Batman, Lex and humanity may feel 'powerless' in that Superman wield absolute power both physically and with his following. Superman conversely may feel powerless in regards to stopping these cults and followers who treat him as a god rather than be inspired to action by his deeds. So there's a possible duality involved.

Although it's clear the trailer refers to Batman in this regards.
