Syfy Greenlights Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome
Source: Syfy October 22, 2010

Syfy has given the greenlight to "Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome" from Executive Producer David Eick, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions. Universal Cable Productions will produce the 2-hour pilot with Syfy utilizing cutting edge CGI and virtual technology.

"Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome" takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, a sentient robotic race, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a brash rookie viper pilot enters the fray. Ensign William Adama, barely in his 20's and a recent Academy graduate, finds himself assigned to the newest battlestar in the Colonial fleet, the Galactica. The talented but hot-headed risk-taker soon finds himself leading a dangerous top secret mission that, if successful, will turn the tide of the decade long war in favor of the desperate fleet.

"The 'Galactica' universe as re-imagined by Ron Moore and David Eick is rich with possibilities and backstory," said Mark Stern. "We jumped at the chance to revisit the William Adama character and explore this exciting chapter in the BSG narrative which falls between the events of the original series and the prequel, 'Caprica,' currently airing on Syfy."

"While maintaining the themes of politics, social propaganda, and the timeless question: what does it mean to be human? - 'Blood & Chrome' will also return us to the authentic, relentless depiction of combat and the agony and ecstasy of human-Cylon war, which was the hallmark of 'Battlestar Galactica's' early seasons," said David Eick.

Michael Taylor wrote the teleplay from a story by Eick, Taylor and Bradley Thompson & David Weddle.
Nice.

Thats good. Espically if Caprica gets picked up for a 2nd season (anyone know how its ratings are doing nowadays?)

Still hope they do a spin-off set in "current" day with them leaving earth, kind of to come full circle.

I think ratings arent that freat from what I hear but who knows Moores name is no where in that article in conjunction with Blood and Chrome so maybe he is focussing on Caprica and Eick will focus on this.

I just hope it goes past the pilot stage. It would be great to have a trilogy of Adama. Caprica with Willie Adama, the child. Blood and Chrome with William Adama, the young man. BSG with Bill Adama, the "Old Man". Sounds good to me.

I agree it would be nice. We can only hope to see a young Tigh as well.....on second thought, would we?

It has the possibility to turn into a full fledged tv series.

Well thats what the article says, they are filiming a 2 hour pilot.

depends when the story takes place. But he could in theory be sneaking around all during the war before the 5 do their thing with the colonial cylons

I want the obvious cylon war story, with the background they've already defined in caprica, and the epilogue in BSG, the middle story could be fantastic... if put together with the same care it appears the current two series are. But what I like about the B/C concept is that it's far into the war... meaning that the war on Caprica should be starting relatively soon, given Billy Adama's age. What could be problematic with both shows potentially running at the same time, is conflict in narrative. The events leading up to the war, are going to be important to B/C, but they are what I'm picturing as the finale of Caprica.

as for caprica chat, I'm all caught up now... I'm loving the conflict over the company, it's really heated up (and maybe burnt out a little quickly), but have been quite happy, although still not 100% sold on the show. I feel like I'm watching a well put together appendix. But it's getting there.

I love how Zoecopy has an imaginary friend aswell.

Is the guy from Razor going to be playing younger Bill Adama?

Speaking of Bill, where has he been in Caprica? I don't think I've seen him once since the show came back on.

it doesnt really matter because Caprica isn't about Bill and god willing the show gets canned and Blood and Chrome takes its rightful place as the story that SHOULD have been told in the first place

the wait is good imo. BSG ended with a good bang. Caprica is a little more intellectual. But if it leads into B/C, then I prefer this way of doing it. Slower is better, to a degree.

Caprica is slowly heating up,,, I see the first cylons in production by the end of the seaosn

Well see the thing is you have Tigh, who seemingly doesnt age despite one flashback appearance with hair, and the other final 4 just running around on the colonies. To not include them is almost a disservice to the characters and the story in general, considering people really want to see it.

I agree they would almost have to do a flashforward in Caprica, wrap it up and then do B/C. Although having both at once would be bad ass and would make for some interesting stories, having things that happen in Caprica tie directly into episodes of B/C like you see something happen in Caprica and it becomes like a clue to something happening in B/C but that would be hard. Hopefully they somehow figure it out but I think Caprica is dead.

I guess Im the only one loving Caprica, theres truly never been anything quite like it on tv

Nah, I like it a lot too. I wasn't feeling it in the beginning, but I love it now.

me too, they just took a break too early, and the story hadn't developed enough. I think they needed to retool the show a little. They've all but dropped the Adama homelife aspect (which although interesting, I think is a good idea). The greater focus on Greystone Industries, zoe, and the OTGers is better for the show. It was getting overly complicated.

Now that characters have settled into more definite positions, the show is much more interesting, and a little less chaotic. I'm very interested to see where it goes, it just doesn't hold me the way that BSG did.

that being said, the current tv fare is lacking a solid scifi space opera type show. B/C sounds like it will definately fill that void.

Goddammit Syfy, just what the **** else to you have to offer?! :argh:

Eh. Bye bye. I haven't finished Battlestar yet, but from what I saw of Caprica it just didn't seem worthy of being the follow up show in the slightest. It just didn't have a premise I think that I really wanted to see.

I wasn't sure about it before it aired, either. But after the pilot, I was hooked. It's a nice look at the universe of BSG before everything got destroyed.

it can burn in hell....plus I hated that chick who played the daughter, she annoyed me

She's annoying, but the girl who plays her best friend is cute.
