Cool! Nice to see that I'm not the only one who thinks FRWL is the best Bond film ever.![]()
I think so too.

I think the Bond of (at least the early) novels is slim and wiry because he is a product of Britain's post-war rationing years. It was a time of hardship here; if you look at pictures of British soldiers during the war, they tend to be underweight, as do civilians. The concept picture of 007 produced for Ian Fleming shows a lean, cold-looking man, who nevertheless looks quite deadly.

Really, he just has an old fashioned kind of look. It doesn't conform to the modern view of an action hero. Nevertheless, I think Christian Bale or Michael Fassbender could play faithful interpretations of the 1950s 007 of the novels.
Really wish Dalton could have done one more Bond.
I wasn't the biggest Dalton fan at first, but he grew on me.
But wouldn't Bond have to be in some sort of good phyisical condition to be a secret agent in the first place? I can understand the times and how the 50's made them seem less, and I'm not suggesting a lean guy would have less of a solid physical condition, but to be fair, you mentioned underweight. Could an underweight Bond on film come across very well and be just as well suited to be a secret agent?
But we're talking about movies. Quantum Of Solace had a definite Bourne movie influence. Casino Royale had some as well but it was overwhelmingly Bond.Rumors. He's not going anywhere.
Oh, and somebody had to bring up the Bond/Bourne thing again. Bond came first, Robert Ludlum was pissed because IFP wouldn't hire him as the Bond writer after Fleming died so he cerated a Bond pastiche that mirrored Bond in the last few Fleming novels (broken man, mental problems, etc) and wrote some books.

I never said ripped off. I realise why there are similarities, I'm just stating they are there.Just like the movies have always been influenced by what's going on around them. I would not expect them to still rely on stop motion animation for SFX, but if they do use CGI I don't go screaming that it's a rip off of this movie or that.
Both are spy franchises. One directly led to the creation of the other, there's no question there. Bourne also had some top men in the business working as part of it's crew, the IFP people not using them when they were not otherwise engaged is just smart.
Bond ripped off Bourne? Only in the sense that most action movies of an era (especially dealing with similar topics) usually look alike. But Bourne is clearly a Bond pastiche.
