The Bond 23 Thread

It is. It's a spy thriller, a solid Bond girl, a terrific plot, locations, action sequences, two menacing villains, everything about it is charming. It's so much damn fun. It's not Oscar worthy but who cares? It's better than alot of Oscar films anyway.

I think the Bond of (at least the early) novels is slim and wiry because he is a product of Britain's post-war rationing years. It was a time of hardship here; if you look at pictures of British soldiers during the war, they tend to be underweight, as do civilians. The concept picture of 007 produced for Ian Fleming shows a lean, cold-looking man, who nevertheless looks quite deadly.

Really, he just has an old fashioned kind of look. It doesn't conform to the modern view of an action hero. Nevertheless, I think Christian Bale or Michael Fassbender could play faithful interpretations of the 1950s 007 of the novels.

I think that Timothy Dalton looks a lot like that picture, except Dalton's more muscular.

Really wish Dalton could have done one more Bond.

Imagine how much darker Goldeneye would've been with Dalton as Bond. They did rewrite script to make it lighter in tone after Dalton said he wouldn't return.

I wasn't the biggest Dalton fan at first, but he grew on me.

Dalton grew on everyone, especially because Daniel Craig's films were similar in tone. People just weren't ready to let go of the silliness of Moore's Bond. Dalton was ahead of his time and though I'm not saying he's the best Bond, he's still the best actor to play Bond.

Moore's were just too silly. I wouldn't rank him among my favorite Bond's.

But wouldn't Bond have to be in some sort of good phyisical condition to be a secret agent in the first place? I can understand the times and how the 50's made them seem less, and I'm not suggesting a lean guy would have less of a solid physical condition, but to be fair, you mentioned underweight. Could an underweight Bond on film come across very well and be just as well suited to be a secret agent?

Yeah Bond was in great shape. Fleming goes into great detail about his daily workout routine, his being a champion sportsman all through school and the military. A lot of the novels surround Bond's athletic side I think, they heavily feature skiing, scuba, golf, climbing as well as enough women swooning over him on the beach someplace that it's pretty safe to say that was was in pretty good shape. Sure he's been called thin and angular, but I always saw that as him being one of those guys who looked skinny till you paid attention ... like Bruce Lee.

If that's true talk about leaving on a whimper. Caino Royale was a great film but QOS very forgettable.

If he does leave he'll probably be remembered in the same vein as dalton more so, as opposed to connery, moore and brosnan's impact on the franchise.

It's definitely the Dalton era all over again.

Craig will be more remembered then Dalton. hes Bond stands out.

Dont get it at all. We have an actor who's gone on record to say that he couldnt wait to get back to the role, a production company who has that actor tied to a contract and a studio who has made garnered both critical and commercial success by featuring 2 movies with that actor in the role.

So if this is true, and I'm not saying it is, then what gives?

Just doesnt compute.

i am big fan of Pierce Brosnon as bond and never liked the idea of rebooting bond and
ripping off Jason Bourne. But my problems was with the producers and how they approached It not Danial Craig. He was playing Bond as they wanted him to.He could
play I am convinced a more tradiational Bond not a Bourne copy.Perhapes a hybrid of
Connery and Dalton. If they are looking for another bond this suggests they see It as another relaunch.

Would suck if craig is out. I def want to see him do atleast one more film. But heck who knows what real. Crqig is/was signed for at least three more if I recall. But if he is to busy with other projects once production is ready I can see why he wouldn't be back. If they have to get another bond curious to see who lands it.

Rumors. He's not going anywhere.

Oh, and somebody had to bring up the Bond/Bourne thing again. Bond came first, Robert Ludlum was pissed because IFP wouldn't hire him as the Bond writer after Fleming died so he cerated a Bond pastiche that mirrored Bond in the last few Fleming novels (broken man, mental problems, etc) and wrote some books.

But we're talking about movies. Quantum Of Solace had a definite Bourne movie influence. Casino Royale had some as well but it was overwhelmingly Bond.

If there isn't another movie in 2012, then yeah Craig reign is over. And this is coming from someone who loves his interpretation of the character and both his films. I want to see as much as him in the tuxedo as possible. But gotta be realistic here, kiddos.

The dude isn't going to wait forever while MGM tries to get their **** together. No matter what anyone says publicly (which you should never take as the Gospel) and especially considering the red hot offers Craig's getting nowadays.

Hopefully he will pick bond. Hedk he could drop out of something else and stay with bond. But we have to wait to we know definate when film goes into production. Once we have that we could possibly get better clue if craig will be free.

I really like Craig as Bond, but I wouldn't mind it all that much if he got replaced by Clive Owen. I know it's a cliché choice, but that guy would be perfect. Plus, he should be in better movies.

Just like the movies have always been influenced by what's going on around them. I would not expect them to still rely on stop motion animation for SFX, but if they do use CGI I don't go screaming that it's a rip off of this movie or that.

Both are spy franchises. One directly led to the creation of the other, there's no question there. Bourne also had some top men in the business working as part of it's crew, the IFP people not using them when they were not otherwise engaged is just smart.

Bond ripped off Bourne? Only in the sense that most action movies of an era (especially dealing with similar topics) usually look alike. But Bourne is clearly a Bond pastiche.

I never said ripped off. I realise why there are similarities, I'm just stating they are there.
