Comics The Build to ASM #700

Honestly I feel 700 was a big letdown. Slott hyped this like crazy and in the end it was an OK story, and all that hype fell flat on its face.

I feel that Ends of the Earth and Danger Zone were done a lot better and honestly Dying Wish could have worked in one big issue instead of drug out over 3 and Slott spending a few pages each issue to recap. It just felt like he was filling space.

The stories I liked the most were his little self contained one and two issue ones. The ones that spent the time fleshing out the characters of Pete's supporting cast. "I Killed Tomorrow" is a shining example of this as we got to see more of Peter's co-workers at Horizon and we learned more about what made them tick.

Aloha,
Again, I think Ock is going to do everything possible to prove himself a Superior Spider-Man. But he got to be Spider-Man through an underhanded and murderous way.So ultimately, in order to prove himself a superior man, he may have to relinquish his hold on Peter's body/memories.That would reflect with great power comes great responsibility.Just like Kraven coveted Spidey so much he buried him and impersonated him, Doc is an imposter. He's not a Thunderbolt. He did not recieve any pardon for the crimes he's committed nor did he have a change of heart regarding his villianous ways. He will ALWAYS be a parasite inhabiting another man's life, nothing superior about that.

Said somebody who probably didn't read ASM 700.

I'm not gonna sit here and convince you that I read it .. just my opinion

Give reasons, compare, let us see your view
A debate comes either way, so if you care not to debate then don't, type in your two cents and let it be

Yeah this makes sense because I was a little ticked off that Doc Ock said he would be a better Spider-Man than Pete, which shows that he didn't really understand everything about spider-man during all those flashbacks of all those deaths. I just can't imagine how any spider-man could be superior to Peter.

I don't think you have to worry. The title is called "Superior Spider-Man" not because Marvel thinks this is a better Spider-Man, but because in Ock's mind (no pun) he is the superior Spider-Man and wants to prove it. And I think we all know how that will go.

The flashbacks serve to make Ock want to be a hero, not run around as Spidey robbing banks, killing, or taking over the world. But, Ock is still an egomaniac, so although he will follow Pete's path, he will do it better (at least in his opinion).

Exactly! I think "walking a mile" in Parker's shoes, he'll learn a lesson or two and redeem himself, ultimately allowing Pete to return to his body,

^that would be pretty cool. I think by the time Peter comes back, Ock will realize that he wasn't superior and he could never be superior.

I have a question. I haven't read Spidey in a while so I don't know if Peter is dating anyone? Is he?

Because if he is, and now Doc Ock is in Peter's body.....that's rape. Some weird, comicbook-y type rape, but rape nonetheless.

Please tell me Peter isn't sleeping with anyone currently. That would be so creepy, I couldn't take it.

OMG.... please take the rape BS somewhere else...

Mind rape, physical theft
MJ is pleased with Peter, thinking it's him (for now)
But she won't like Ock

Technically, it is rape, carnageehw is right

Well it's Marvel raising the issue. Personally I think they're just taking the piss when they say that Spider-man and MJ will get back together in issue two (and likely side-step the issue entirely). Otherwise it's not really consensual since it's obtained by deception (and not just a harmless case of 'mistaken identity' as Wacker would like people to believe).

But like I say, it's probably nothing, but Wacker and Marvel are proving to be incredibly insensitive to the point of possibly making it an actual issue even if it doesn't actually happen in the book (I mean, fingers crossed they're not that stupid to actually write something like that).

She was probably thinking "wasn't he the villain in Octopussy?". lol

I remember one comment being something like "I hope your entire family dies of AIDS you fat bastard" :funny:

It's funny in how pathetic it is that someone would say that over a comic book they didn't like.

I can laugh at the immaturity of the guy who said that but yeah as much as I HATE this storyline and think Dan is doing an awful job writing Spidey, NOBODY should be getting death threats and things like this over a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. Fanboy though I may be, at least I have some sensiblity in that regard.

Hey you're always ragging on the clone-saga and I doubt you read most of that! :p

I read it as it was coming out and bailed at Spectacular 229 when Peter and MJ rode off into the sunset as Ben took over for Spider-Man full time. quit for a few months before hearing that Peter and MJ never really left and Dan Jurgens was doing terrific work on Sensational. I have a ton of regret and came running back, picking up the back issues.

The rape debate is going to get us nowhere.....we all can agree on that. Best to just leave it alone.
