Comics The Build to ASM #700

I just hope that Slott doesn't do something like kill Peter, MJ or May because he's better than that. I'm gonna stick with my gut feeling that Spidey is gonna finally cross that line and kill someone in a premeditated fashion (in this case Ock). That's gonna cause some fans to freak out enough to cause Dan to avoid the internet boards for a long time.

I agree whole heartedly with that statement.

I don't think Ock is going anywhere. They already killed him off once in the Clone Saga right after he found out Spidey's identity. This would just be history repeating itself.

Right because Marvel never repeats itself. How many times has Jean Grey died again?

There's been some interesting rumors/speculation that I've read including a scenario where Ock somehow switches bodies with Peter and Peter is trapped in Ock's body as it dies, totally taking Peter off the grid for a while and opening the door for Alpha to fill in as Spider-Man on a temporary basis.

Uhmmmm... twice?

Though that wasn't her the first time... :oldrazz:

:yay:

Thank you

I'd also like to think Slott would be a bit more original and not duplicate the furniture of a Clone Saga tale.

I love how people always say that about Jean Grey. I've seen somebody here post that argument about Bucky Barnes. Jean died twice and people act like it's a yearly thing. It happened once in the early 80's and again over 20 yrs later. I think the average comic fan isn't a fan that long. Some people drop it out of college or high school.

I laughed when somebody said that about Bucky. He died back in the 60's off panel in a flashback story mind you and was brought back over 50 years later. You can't even count the second time because it was clearly not planned on sticking. It served one purpose.....to get him out of the Cap costume.

The only character in all of comics that is constantly being killed is the Scourge of the Underworld but that's part of the Scourge gimmick. I've seen that guy whacked almost 100 times in Mark Gruenwald stories alone. After that the only other challengers to the throne are Joker and maybe Magneto.

The one you had the question marks with is Lightmaster, awesome Ramos put him on!! I think Puma is next to Mr. Negative, Molten Man above Tombstone, and Scorpion (the current design) is under Beetle.

forgot boomerang is in there too

There was another cover I saw that had the NYC skyline and all of the Spider-Man writers and artists throughout the years were written on the building. It was neat-o.

There have been 3 different covers released so far... and they all look pretty sweet...

:yay:

What about this cover?

It has Venom. Perhaps 700 has something to do with that?
Also, in an interview, Slott said that there is something pointed out from the origin story. That makes me think that all the different things on these covers have to do with 700. http://www.comicbookresources.com/prev_img.php?pid=13304&pg=1
Origin
death of gwen
Black suit
clone saga
AvX (avengers)
So I think something happens with all of these. Plus, at the fan expo, it was revealed that Spidey gets a new suit and everyone may hate Slott for what happens.

I love this cover too. I want to make sweet love to it. So coooooooooooooooooool!:hrt::awesome::hrt::awesome::hrt:

That's pretty crazy. I'll bet that one is worth a ton of money some day.

In layman's terms, what I think will happen in 700 and "Dying Wish"...
Doc Ock: *on TV* Hey Peter Parker is Spider-Man
Peter: What no I'm not
Doc Ock: Yes you are
Peter: No I'm not
*Alpha comes in with Spidey suit on* Alpha: Yeah see I am Spider-Man *uses flying power to climb walls and has web shooters he took from Peter*
Doc Ock: Oh well *dies*
*Alpha is now Spider-Man because Peter can't reveal that he was, and Peter mentors him*

That's awful even for Marvel. I keep seeing everyone speculating that Alpha will take over or Peter is going to get his powers for # 700. I just don't think that's the case. I believe that Alpha is just a character who came along in this arc to give a nod to Spider-Man's 50th birthday.

Having Alpha "take the mantle" will be too much of a Clone Saga rip off. If Ben Reilly couldn't take over the mantle, and he was an EXACT copy of Peter Parker, then Alpha isn't going to do it. Plus with the rumor of Ock dying it'll have too much of a Clone Saga rip off vibe. With all this "talk" of these crazy happenings having Alpha take over is a HUGE yawn because we all know Peter will come back.

Personally I think that they are going to get Peter and MJ back together or, for the negative thinker, that they're going to off MJ.

SO, Spidey is ending in 700. The word is reboot, I hear.

They are starting the numbering over not a reboot. DC did a reboot of their continuity last year. Marvel has said many times that they are just renumbering, starting new titles, but the continuity established is going to stay the same.

In other words they want the cake and to eat it too.
