Bumblebee The Bumblebee Spin-Off Official Thread

I agree, I really, really don't want a human villain, please no Sector 7 or anything. There's always a chance that this movie won't be action oriented at all, but I think that's highly unlikely. I'd venture to say there will be a single Decepticon that serves as a villain.

Agreed, I don't mind humans being a heavy part of the villain story, but please have a deception in there as the main villain. Heck, Barricade would suffice. Reveal that their rivalry in the first movie had gone on for a while.

Huh, interesting. It is obvious he's been on Earth for a long time and is probably the most acclimated to our culture, hence why he was the most easygoing and acts the most "human" out of them.

Barricade would work, I do think the movie should have a automobile villain. I would actually like this movie to distance itself from the Bay series and only use robots that existed in the 80s show (since it's set during the 80s), but I'm torn because it would be pretty cool to see Barricade formatted into an 80s police car, and that character was great in the newer games.

80's setting? Interesting. Steinfield starring? Very interesting. I wonder if other TF's are going to be in this then? We know Bumblebee was on earth before the other Autobots, but the Deceptions might have been there for a while.

I wonder who the villain will be?

80s setting means one thing... F-15 Eagle Starscream! :woot:

Well there are characters they could use from the cartoon. But as far as I remember none of them had a running rivalry with BB, same in the comics. Barricade has a bit of a rivalry in the movies though.

Could be! :cwink:

Yeah, it will definitely be interesting to see what they do. I'm pretty sure I heard that they're beginning filming next month, so I'd expect vehicle reveals fairly soon.

I'm curious what the plot will be. At first I thought it would be about Bee scouting for the Allspark, but that can't be the main storyline because ultimately that would fail since they don't locate it until the 2007 movie.

Well Bee could have been looking for the Allspark for years before he found Sam. While he was looking for it he probably had his own adventures along the way. So they could incorporate it.

The issue is that the Transformers in these movies don't really have well defined characters of their own and lack much agency in the actual plot. Will that actually change for this movie. Will Bumblebee finally get a voice?

I would say Bee and Prime are well defined by now. And if this is prequel then I don't see him having a voice. I agree though the voice thing is played out by now.

I actually don't mind Bee using the radio gimmick as long as it's used effectively. In the 2007 film, they went out of their way to piece together actual clips from the radio and even TV shows to give Bee a unique speech pattern, but it seems like in later sequels they just had an actor record lines, and then modulated it, which feels cheaper. I would love for them to work in a lot of 80s nostalgia with his radio voice in this spinoff.

It looks like Hailee Steinfeld has been confirmed now.

She seems talented, so hopefully she does well. I'm a little nervous of her character description though, she's supposed to be a tomboy mechanic, which sounds a bit close to Rey and the kid off the Last Knight (who seems like basically a ripoff of Rey). I really hope Hailee Steinfeld's character has a distinct personality, as I'm not terribly impressed with the characterization of either of the above.

Burden befalls the writer because Travis Knight is talented enough.

If i'm reading this right, it sounds like Hailee Steinfeld might have a song in the movie?

Also of note is that she's a fan of the Transformers movie series, and the film seems to simply be titled "Bumblebee".

I have yet to see Kubo and the Two Strings, but I hear it's great. I actually kind of want to watch it now to get a feeling for what the Bumblebee movie might be like.

Yeah, Kubo was a modern day masterpiece to be honest. I caught it the other night.

This movie will take place in the 80s. It's been awhile since I saw the first one, but wasn't the idea that Bumblebee only recently came to Earth, and lost his voicebox in the process?

Apparently Megatron did it to him if you're going by Transformers Prime, so its been centuries.

I would've been interested to see any Transformers movie not directed by Bay but the director of Kubo? This might actually have be decent. Hope he manages to deliver. I do wonder though since they keep saying this is going to be more kid-friendly, just how kid-friendly do they mean?

I've waited a long time to see a good Transformers movie, but I never thought I'd actually see the day when I'm kind of excited for a Transformers movie. If the trailers look promising, this could easily be one of my most anticipated movie for next year along with Marvel's.

As far as being kid friendly, I hope they tone down the bad language, extreme violence, and inappropriate humor. Michael Bay pushes it way too much with something that's supposed to be a kid brand. I'm sure it will still be PG-13, but hopefully just for some sci-fi action violence.

They really aren't. Not to mention the movies show Optimus just becoming darker and more rage filled and basically nothing like the Optimus fans hold in high regard.

Even the marketing now portrays Optimus as violent and short tempered.

It's sad that this is how the public sees the character of Optimus rather than the beloved version from the classic show.

I know people love Optimus, but if they're not going to reboot or make him nicer, I hope future movies steer away from the character of Optimus and just focus on spinoffs with other characters.

Some could argue that Bumblebee is also a bit of a jerk in the movie universe, but at least he has the excuse of being young and still learning, and at least he's never outright murdered anyone.

All the Transformers are killers.

All the Transformers are killers.

In what sense are you referring?

All of them kill in self-defense or in combat against an enemy, but Optimus downright murdered two robots, one of which was trying to make a truce and the other of which was begging for mercy.

Or do you mean that all the Bayverse robots are too brutal and triggerhappy?
