Bumblebee The Bumblebee Spin-Off Official Thread

I haven't seen Bumblebee (yet) but I've heard Optimus arrive on Earth at the end. Does anyone else? I think I'd rather them pair Bee up with a different Autobot for a sequel, and save Prime for the third instalment (if they're going to do a duo buddy film for the sequel).

If this gets a sequel, I hope Bumblebee goes back to his "Beetle" form. They probably did the Camero as a nod to the Bay movies, or to say "see it's all connected," but I prefer the Beetle, it just suits the character.

I hope that they'll start doing their own thing (completely), and forget about the old movies or possible issues with continuity

If they turn him back into a Beetle, that makes his Camaro transformation in the film relatively pointless.

Finally got around to watching this yesterday, and I can honestly say I enjoyed all of it, except maybe Cena's portrayal of that Sector 7 agent. Wasn't terrible, it just didn't really add to the film at all.

I am conflicted about consistency here though, is this film supposed to be connected to the others, or isn't it? In one respect, we've got his lost voice, his Camaro transformation and the fact that he's left Charlie (presumably to later meet Sam), but on the other hand, Optimus (and soon to be other Autobots) have just arrived on Earth ahead of their time.

The single element of the film that I didn't quite like was how Charlie got to name Bumblebee from his previous designation, when every other Autobot and Decepticon we met already had their very own unique name. Why was Bumblebee (B-127) any different in that regard?

If they turn him back into a Beetle, that makes his Camaro transformation in the film relatively pointless.
Does it though? He turned into that military jeep for a brief moment; it's not as if Transformers can't change their modes at will, if even for a little fun.

BumbleeBee was absolutely fantastic. I really didn't think I would love it this much. I was actually planning to hate watch this because of the Bay hate. But this was great from start to finish. Whatever Amblin homage they tried to push with this one, it worked. It worked so well.

I liked Sam Witwicky a lot and I think he was a really cool character but I never felt the kind of emotional pull I felt with Charlie's character in here. Her friendship with BB felt so genuine & sincere so much so that it brought tears to me when Charlie dived at the very end to save BB. That was a really touching moment.

I loved the soundtrack in here. I know it's a lot of 80s songs just randomly popping outta nowhere but it was cool.

I also loved the action scenes. It doesn't match up with the kkkrazzzy awesomeness of the Bayhem from the first 4 TF movies but it was actually cool to see both Optimus & BumbleBee go to town on the decepticons all solo. Optimus on Cybertron & BB against Blitzwing, Dropkick & Shatter was neat.

I was madly rooting for BB to kick some Shatter & Dropkick a$$. I loved the Optimus v Megatron, Optimus v Megatron v Sentinel & Optimus v Lockjaw fights from the previous movies but I never felt this vindictive towards the decepticons so I loved it when BB crushed them to pieces. It was very satisfying.

One thing I'll say tho, John Cena was criminally underused here. He's got amazing comic timing and I loved his opening scene with that military drill. That was hysterical. Cena was hilarious but the movie doesn't give him enough material to work with and that's a bummer. That's honestly the only complaint I have with this movie.

I get why they want to bring Optimus in for the sequel, he will probably bring in a bit more money. I just wonder who the villain will be, Megatron is obviously frozen, Shockwave isn’t on Earth yet, it maybe time to introduce Thunderwing.

Saw this the other night, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I like Bay’s first movie a little bit more, but this was still fun and cute. Would love to see a proper Transformers sequel in this world.
That's pretty much exactly what I thought. It was well done, but I thought the scope of the first movie was a bit more grand. However, I thought that Steinfeld was a much stronger lead than Shia LaBeouf. It was also refreshing to see a Transformers movie that wasn't littered with Bay's brand of humor and treated the source material with respect. It felt more like a soft reboot than a prequel to me, just because of the Autobots and Decepticons coming to Earth in the first place, but they were careful not to use Megatron since he would still be in the Hoover Dam. But then, wouldn't Sector 7 have known about that in this to make the Decepticons showing up not as surprising to them? Anyway, it was fun but very cliched at the same time. I don't know if I'd give it the high rating that Rotten Tomatoes did but it's still easily the best Transformers movie since 2007, though that isn't a high bar to cross.

It has to be a soft reboot. Bumblebee is critically acclaimed, profitable and has built up so much goodwill. It also provides the perfect opportunity for future films to retcon the Bay movies.

Paramount have finally stumbled upon a formula that works. Character driven, well written stories, good direction, action sequences that can actually be followed. This has to be the template going forward. A Bumblebee sequel featuring one or two more Autobots, maybe a solo Optimus Prime movie. Use these to flesh out the story of the war on Cybertron, while building the robots as characters. Then you can look to do another team up movie. But look at the mess of the DCEU for an example of what happens when you rush into cinematic team ups without the audience being familiar or interested in your characters. Bay was only able to fit so many "characters" into his films because the robots were mainly 2 dimensional and lacked character.

Hasbro will want a strong Transformers cinematic franchise to help push their upcoming Hasbro Cinematic Universe.

Release a solo film for Ironhead, then Rachet, then Optimus Prime. And those three solo films including BumbleBee should lead to an Autobots movie.

I don't see Ironhide or Ratchet getting a solo movie anytime soon, or ever for that matter. There are far more popular Autobots and I doubt many even remember both or how they died in the Bay movies.

Prime and Bumblebee are their most popular by far at the moment. Only other Autobots I ever see getting solo movies would be Hot Rod, Ultra Magnus or possibly Jazz.

A Transformers property without an autobot team feels off in general.

Ironhide was killed by Sentinel Prime. Ratchet was killed by that special forces unit after he was found hiding within a boat. Jazz was torn apart by Megatron.

No research needed. ;)

Actually, Lockdown finished him off. Tore his spark from his chest.

Just now got around to watching this.
The writing is bad. The lore building is cursory. All the key plot points & everyone seem to adjust and accept things so quickly as if the Transformers & humans already went through this before.
This franchise is screwed to go from boring revamp to absurdly nonsensical to banally cliched.

Please reboot.

Us fans are certainly more likely to remember, personally I remember how and when both died, but the GA? They won't have a clue.
I doubt the GA know the name of more than a handful of Transformers, even those who have seen all the films. :funny:

What movie were YOU watching?

Anyway this movie is the reboot. If you think this one was bad, you should bail out now and wait for the next one.

I didn't think they'd ever stoop as low stakes as a humdrum kid's movie. The structure, the tone, the emotional weight...it's rather unfortunate.

Couldn’t disagree with you more, while it skew a bit more kiddie than the previous movies, it made up for that with tons of heart, a great lead and some really good action.
