I watched it this morning and loved picking up on the new scenes. I'm one who appreciated the TC so this version only enhanced it. Some of the plot points that required some mental gymnastics, which I had no problem with, were much better fleshed out in this version and you could really see the plot against Clark and Bruce much clearer. The three major fights were longer but not too long and over the top. A few cool sequences added in that really makes you wonder what they were thinking with the cuts for the TC. The added details into Clark Kent and what his motivations were made more sense. You understood why he stopped Batman from stopping KG Beast.

It's a real shame that we are in this situation.

[BLACKOUT]Prison shiving. Train push. [/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT]Gun pointed at Martha's face; Nude buttocks; Additional blood; Overall intensity; Burning bodies, etc[/BLACKOUT]

A lot of the "R" elements, on their own, might not have gotten an R rating, but all of them together push it over for the MPAA.
The MPAA also have a lot of seemingly arbitrary lines, and the slightest things can push a rating one way, or another.

It's really a whole lot-a ********.

Anyone else notice in the Ultimate Cut, the Superman hearings occur at exactly the half-point of the movie (approx. 1 hour and 30 minutes in)? It's a small detail but I'm sure it's purposeful in its execution.

Loved the theatrical version. Ultimate Cut really brings everything home.

Why do you think this was a deliberate thing?
I do feel like it felt much later in the TC version. Does anyone know approx when it was in the TC?
It's odd, considering most of the added footage appears to be in the first half of the film anyways, so I'm curious to see what the second half of the film is padded with.

guys, where can i get bonus features online, except VUDU????????????? i am ready to pay

I already actually overall enjoyed the theatrical cut but this cut definitely makes the film much better and it's a damn shame this wasn't the theratrical cut!

Curious what Schmoes Know guys say whenever they watch it.

Amazing review. He is a very good writer and really understand these things. The parallel he noticed about how that African woman said
"How does he decide, which lives matter and which lives dont",and that later affects Clark as he says "When we publish something Perry,we make a choice, about who matters".

Its really good writing.

I'm actually really surprised that flew by me until I read that review.

I mean, the criticism of Superman, and the idea of choosing "who lives" as a major theme in Snyder's mythos here, are really apparent, but I didn't even pick up on the parallels with Clarks comments, and the parallels in how the media attacks Superman in the films by, themselves, cherry picking who's lives matter.

Great stuff  And he nails the "Martha" stuff. Haters have blown that so out of proportion and just latch on to it for jokes.

The "Martha" criticism drive me nuts. While I did find the execution to be a bit heavy handed, with the excessive flashbacks in the moment et al, but the intentions of the scene were VERY apparent to me.

The fact that those criticizing it are SOOOO far off the mark is crazy. It's like they're going out of their way to ignore what was actually happening just so they can say "Your mom's named Martha too?!?! Let's be best friends!"

God dammit, the coincidence was NOT the point of that scene. The coincidence is just what shocks Bruce enough to give him pause. It has NOTHING to do with why he actually changes his course of action though.

Plus most people didn't catch they linked both Martha and also Lois on a more subtle level, it's all about flowers.

Yea, this drives me crazy too. :whatever: :woot:

Just finished watching!

It's amazing how much more well crafted the UC is. Particularly the entire second hour(namely everything surrounding the Senate bombing)- Scenes now flow into each other naturally, etc etc. I do think it was a mistake not releasing this cut into theaters. Only changes I would have made would be to take out the Knightmare sequence and the Communion scene, reinstate the Clark looking for his mom scene, and release THAT to theaters. The UC should have then had the Knightmare and Communion scenes, in addition to whatever other goodies they cut out of even the UC.

They couldn't have cut that Knightmare scene because it was tied to merchandise. These are still superhero films and WB still needs to sell toys.

Communion scene didn't really need to be there, but it works well as a call back to the Cyborg scene. Cues the audience into the fact that Cyborg's tech is tied to something truly terrifying.

Clark looking for his mom scene works best as a deleted scene. I want to see it, but keeping it in the film would've just led to more Superman criticisms. He actively ignores everyone else suffering to try to save one person. I think that would've actually been too dark for this film.

The funny thing I've noticed is that "consider this mercy/do you bleed" scene makes so much more sense now and feels so deeper! It really surprised me.
Because in this cut, Superman really thinks Batman is a cruel man who brands and stabs people and only "a fist" can stop him, etc., so when you see this scene, it feels so different than in theatrical cut. Now you understand why he acts and sounds so presumptuous and haughty, like "consider this mercy" like he really thinks he speaks with some awful person.

Anyone who truly believes WB was going to release this cut into theaters instead of the theatrical cut is deluding themselves. As for modern major movies released at over three hours.

Titanic was released at over 3 hours in 1997.

Return of the King was released at over 3 hours in 2003.

Fellowship of the Ring was 178 minutes in 2001.

The Two Towers was 179 minutes in 2002.

Watching Collider Heroes. I was in the screening with those guys and was right behind Schnepp on the escalator. I turned to my girlfriend and said "Even though it's longer, it actually feels shorter." Not saying he took my line or anything. Just thought it was funny that it was the first thing both of us said about the movie.

Anybody know if PSN or XBox have made this available for rental (as opposed to purchase)? I don't want to pay $30 for something I'll probably hate.

You cant rent it anywhere until July 19.

You can get the Theatrical Cutand the Ultimate Cut together for $20 on vudu, amazon, PSN, and XBOX.

When did Supes stopped Batman from stopping KG Beast??

It's even worse than the superman neck breaking critisms/jokes, which is really saying something. Extremely annoying and ignorant because they don't even get it in the bigger picture.

Reality is most people don't want to sit for a three hour movie. That's why it was cut.

Can't WAIT to own it!
