BvS The BvS Ultimate Cut Thread - Part 3

I watched the Ultimate Cut last night. Many of the problems of the theatrical cut were still present, but there is no denying that it was better. I kinda feel like the 6/10 was bumped up to a 7.5/10 or something. They did a good job of fleshing out certain things, like the stuff in Africa, but even so, I thought that whole subplot was stupid to begin with.

my friend just saw the UC and felt the same way.
he's only seen about the first 30 minutes of the TC, but he felt this was more coherent already.

he didn't like lex, the "martha" fight resolution, and some of the plotting he thought didn't make sense.

but overall, he thought it was decent due to the better told story and other cool stuff.

we both mainly talked about how much we liked batman in this - friend said batman in this is "like liam neeson from taken but with comic book powers" and his "amount of don't give a f*** is epic."
hahaha.

You know, its funny, I did NOT like Lex when I saw the film in theater. He just annoyed the crap out of me. But after watching the UC, I really enjoyed him for the most part. I don't know how I had such a 180 turn but I think I think with my expectations now set and actually being able to pay attention to some of the lines he was saying (he had some very clever, quotable lines that can be listen in Eisenberg's manic deliver) I think I appreciated him a lot more.

I felt the same way man

I just wish people had the patience (would have helped if they just released UE in theaters) to accept that Superman and Lex are still growing and that Batman is just now reverting back to who he was.

We've seen countless Batman and Superman films (not in the same one obviously). These two films have allowed us to Kent's journey to putting on the cape, Batman already 20 years in and broken down, and an upstart Lex Luthor.

They've found a way to keep it fresh. I really think these movies will be more appreciated in time.

I get those who want to see the best of these characters. We'll get there eventually.

Absolutely. It's kinda like when you watch a great series like Sopranos, Breaking Bad, The Wire, you're just kinda watching it for a while, then there's that one episode that totally sucks you in, then you go back and watch the first episodes through new eyes and you're like "I love this!" I think a lot of people may appreciate the early films more in the context of the entire Universe once the films really get rolling

I just appreciate that it's not safe like some of the other Comic Book Franchises. Makes me more excited, like I don't know what to expect going forward. Can't wait to see once it gets deep into the mythology, Gods, Monsters, Aliens, Time Travel, Green Lanterns and Greek Manturds (Idk why I said that, just flowing off the dome in my home like a gnome, DJ Chrome)...

I like this too and think it's a fresh approach. Maybe I just more patient and like to savor the experience.:drl:

Somebody uploaded the Ultimate Cut on a porn site I frequent. :hehe:

Is it possible to buy the Ultimate Edition (digital) online if you don't live in the US? I really want to watch the special features... Thanks

I'm gonna keep an open mind about Lex. I couldnt stand him in the TC, but some here who felt like I do, like him in the UC. We shall see.

He doesn't exactly "change," but it's clearer that he's not relying on coincidences for his plan. He's pulling all the strings.

Yep. Right now I feel like the DCEU is season 2 of the Wire.

People hated season 2, but as the years have gone by a lot of people appreciate that season a lot more. The future will be better, but we'll appreciate the past even more.

One thing to keep in mind is that these characters (Lex, Superman) are evolving, their personality will change a bit in next movies.

Even iff JL is on the level of the top tier comic book movies, it's still not going to make me look fondly on the preceding movies.

This is a comic book movie about superpowers and action, if the movie didn't click with you in the first time you watch it, then it won't later. This is not a TV show to talk about patience. These kind of movies should immediately impress you. Maybe after multiple watches, it gets slightly better (or worse), but never turn into an amazing movie (or a pile of garbage) in comparison with the first watch.

also, I rarely get bored watching comic book movies, even when they suck. I really enjoy Marvel & DC movies whatever they are. But I got bored in both versions of BvS, which is a very bad sign.

I disagree, to an extent. While there are certainly those whose opinion will remain the same (my wife being one of them), some have been able to see the UC through a different lens, and thus change their opinion. The first time I watched, I was really on the fence. I enjoyed it to an extent but I just didn't know what to think. Subsequent viewings and the UC have changed my opinion of it drastically. Not a 180, sure, but I love the film now whereas before I wasn't so sure. Just my 2 cents ;)

Definitely one of the film's messages.

How many good guys are left? How many stayed that way?

When Superman said that, I almost teared up. How devastating his feelings must be for him to say that.

Henry Cavill is underrated. Many of his delivery in this movie REALLY works.

Yeah. He is the one guy who observes everything and looks tired to do anything about it. Kinda sucks to be him.

Except Alfred. :oldrazz:

Clever, clever. How do we know that he wasn't the one that hired (I assume) Joe Chill to kill the Waynes? Alfred did have his eye on that wine collection. :oldrazz:
