The Cape

So the show became semi-mystical with Max looking at a some sort of prediction chart, making look like he planned making him a hero all along.

mystery upon a mystery upon a mystery

We need to go deeper. :D

the way it was shot made it seem like MPD.....like Norman Osborne and Green Goblin

I liked that shot as well, it made it all the more... scary.

Here's what I'd like to see in this shows future:

A man who is a master of disguise wants both The Cape and Chess to die,so he finds a way to become closer to the two of them.

A master magician hired by Chess trys to kill The Cape.

One of the bad circus people joins The Cape on an adventure that almost reveals
The Cape's identity.

I think it's only a matter of time before we see a card-throwing gambler-type.

Also, hopefully we'll get a character who does Parkour. Now that's a real-life superpower!

well, you'll get a reduced episode order and like it

ahh The Cape, we hardly knew ye

Maybe Summer should only do shows on their final season ?

"Dice?" Seriously? Why must everyone on the show be named after some kind of inanimate object?

I said I wouldnt watch this week but this show is like a train wreck that I cant help but gawk at. Mena Suvari is a terrible actress BTW she was totally overmatched in her scenes with James Frain.

Just saw they reduced the season episode order to 10. That cant be a good sign. Let's hope we can get something better out of Wonder Woman and Hulk next season.

technically thats what she does, they just dont know it yet LOL

Yeh, I'm going to miss this went it goes. It's getting better each episode and you can tell that they're really trying. I hope that it gets a seconds series and then hopefully it'll round off with that rather than, what I assume will happen, the eventual slow death of the show from here and leaving on some kind of cliff hanger with more questions than answers.

Unfortunately, I'm not too surprised with this turn of events. Aside from a problem with pacing/editing and a lackluster pilot, the show's concept itself was a pretty risky (some might even say borderline stupid) one. When fashioning itself into the superhero genre, it took the aspects that sceptics and cynics tend to mock (costumes, codenames) and taking itself seriously (as opposed to camp/parody/comedy a la Kick Ass) whil eschewing the superhero aspects that the general audience has been known to be willing to accept (e.g. superpowers (while present, it's certainly heavily restricting itself to more explainable abilities), fantasy elements, etc), as seen in shows like Smallville, The 4400 and Heroes. While almost everyone has an inner 'geek', not many out there would want to openly admit to watching a superhero show without it carrying some big name recognition (be it actors, directors or brand name).

I tried to give this show a fair chance and I watched all the episodes up until this monday and I have to say that it just isnt going anywhere. The story/acting/production is just too cheesy. The only way this show survives is:

- Get better actors
- Get a better production team that knows how to shoot a TV show (I.E. the nash bridges camera angles that annoy the hell out of me)
- Get a better story but lets face it the premiere kinda soiled the story going foward
- Get a better costume, is the cape a mythical artifact that can make people disappear? or does it just have the ability to grab things?
- Get rid of the cheese factor

The cape doesn't make people disappear. That's an illusion trick they taught him in the first episode. They said there were 39 (or however many) disappearing illusions, and they would teach him all of them. Even Max used one when Chess had him.

well, from a TV standpoint, its a tough thing to get right...its part of the reason why you don't see superhero shows on EVERY network

But that's the thing...it's NOT tough. They just seemd to get people who have no realy clue about comics to make the shows. They always seem to end up going the cheesy route, or the "realistic, I hate having powers. whiiiiiine!" route.

I disagree

Incredible Hulk lasted because of its human component, I loved Bill Bixby, I didn't WANT him to turn into the Hulk, I just wanted the townies to stop picking on him

Yes, but look at films released in recent years that are superhero related. When directors started to take things a bit more serious, while still injecting humor...suddenly Superhero films became a huge hit.

The same logic could be applied to TV. Embrace the Superhero genre, take it serious, but inject humor and you'll have a hit TV show.

a movie is a one time 2 hour thing, with a TV show youre asking a much larger audience to make a longer investment

there are plenty of people who saw Iron Man or TDK that will NEVER EVER watch something like a Smallville or The Cape

TV is a different animal, especially if you look at what is popular and enduring in the tv landscape these days

CSI, American Idol, NCIS, Dancing with the Stars

plus they require a much larger financial investment than your average tv show....its part of the reason it took so long for Wonder Woman to get picked up...

I guess we'll have to wait and see if Wonder Woman does well...if it does and it's done at least moderately close to the comic, then I think that will pave the way for more quality superhero shows to be made. It usually just takes one show or movie in a genre that does really well to start a flood. :)

That's how I feel with Green Lantern too....if it does great, that is going to open the door for Marvel and DC both to dive into the more cosmic storylines. Someone has to test the waters first though.
