She said she wouldn't even try to audition. And even if she does I doubt they give it to her since her range is kinda limited.
I'm pretty sure her comment on not even trying to audition was because she figured she didn't have a chance at the role.
Definitely agree that Aubrey Plaza's range is limited, and although I'm iffy on her as Catwoman, I do think she'd be an interesting choice regardless. A lot of the names being thrown around are just kinda bland and uninteresting, and are basically just pretty faces, with some names having more acting talent than others. Plaza's naturally unique personality and mannerisms make her stand out in a way that could definitely benefit the character. With proper direction, I think she'd make for a very interesting Catwoman that's serious, pyschotically crazy, playful, and sassy, almost like Michelle Pfeiffer's in a sense.
I honestly don't see a lot of the other names routinely being mentioned really being able to portray all of the serious, crazy, playful, & sassy dimensions to the character. Ana de Armas for example has a great look for sure, and is certainly beautiful, but I've only seen her in one movie (Blade Runner 2049) where she was playing a super 1-dimensional robotic AI-type character, and gave absolutely no indication that she'd be able to play this type of role, so I honestly don't get the fancasting around her.
Basically what I'd prefer to see is an actress that's more than just a standard pretty face and actually brings something unique to the table, and when she's Catwoman you can see the crazy in her eyes. Michelle Pfeiffer did that perfectly back in her day, don't think it should be that hard to find someone who can do that again.
