I remember when I first watched/heard that in the theater and thinking to myself "Oh ****! I actually find Batman intimidating."

I think the first time I saw TDK in IMAX and saw Batman on a nine story screen yelling "where are they?!" that sounded like thunderclaps coming off of those massive speakers, I was left speechless. I seriously thought Batman was going to kill The Joker right then and there. Bale really was The Dark Knight of the interrogation scene - how he went from a stoic, silent and motionless figure into an absolutely uncontrollable raging beast was just amazing. Whenever I watch that scene on DVD, I always enjoy watching Batman a lot more than I do The Joker (despite how good he was). It really reminds me of the scene from Hush in which The Joker finally pushes Batman to the limit.

I'm with you every step of the way here. That was one of the scenes that truly stood out for me when I saw The Dark Knight in Imax. There was something about Bale's Batman that he's not subtle scary, like Keaton. This is the kind of guy who knows how to spark a genuine fear by being in your face and he's not afraid to get his hands dirty. Bale might not a definitive Batman, but let's face it, none of them are. This is his own Batman, along with Nolan, and this is the way they like to represent him scaring people. Hopefully next time Batman will become more the center of the story, unlike TDK where it was mostly Gotham. Bale's an awesome Batman. Not the best, but none of them are, IMHO.

Yeah, Bale was perfect in the interrogation scene. He was a silent, stoic statue that turned into a monster practically foaming at the mouth.

Personally, Batman is the one hero that has villain's just as interesting as he is. I liked how TDK was all encompassing.

Speaking of villains, I absolutely loved how Batman very much seemed like one when it cuts to the scene of him at the sonar mainframe and he says "Beautiful, isn't it?", they way he marvels at his creation. And his cold, detached and apathetic reply to Fox's threat of resignation "when you're finished, type in your name" was just perfect.

Exactly. Keaton had that glare in his eyes which made him come off as almost psychotic and even insane. I always appreciated that he gave his Batman performance such an eerie and edgy touch. Bale's on the other hand, is a feral beast. Simply pure power. Bale's Batman performance is like watching a rage-filled creature constantly at war with itself, torn between exercising restraint to uphold self-imposed rules or unleashing its uncontrollable fury. I liked how Bale's Batman was always right at the edge while Keaton's seemed completely over it. Both actors brought certain innovative elements to the character not seen in the comics before and we are richer for it.

Yup, they're both intimidating but in different ways. Bale's Batman is pure physicality, he might not kill, but he'll pound you for information or drop you a few stories off a ledge with no problem.

Keaton's Batman is just psycho, from the look in his eyes to the coldness of his character. Especially in B89, he sometimes looks dirty even, like he hadn't washed or shaved. In Batman Returns I love how he's just sitting in the dark, until the Bat-signal shines and seems to give him life. I can imagine Keaton's Bruce Wayne just lurking in the cave all day, waiting for that call.

Yea, like there are different interpretations of Batman in the comics, there are different interpretations of him on film. If Nolan, or any director, tried to hard to make a somewhat definitive Batman, it'd be impossible. There is no definite Batman, and while some are obviously more favorable than others, it's always gonna be Batman.

Keaton had the cold dark almost psychotic sense to him. Just that first scene in B89 washed away everyone's doubts about him. When I first saw it, that shape in the background I just said, "That's Batman!" Just that whole scene. I was scared when I first saw it. But I loved it.

Bale is more physical and brutal. He won't kill, but like the Batman in the comics he does stuff you don't neccessarily agree with but can't help but shake your head and smile at it. The Maroni scene for instance. That really shocked me, but I just smiled. I loved the verge of psychotic Bruce almost became in TDK. But he was able to hold back. But that didn't stop him from beating the **** out of the Joker in the interoggation room. I hate when people cmoplain about that. This is Batman year 1, not year 5. He has never dealt with someone like the Joker before. He's used to scaring the **** out of people to get his answers but the Joker just feeds on the anger. He doesn't know what the hell to do but retorts to violence and near killing.

Agreed. I'll bet in the next one, we'll see a Batman who's wise to their acts and borderline psychotic. These 2 movies, I see, are slowly forming Batman to be someone harder and grimmier for the eventual 3rd. Nolan's last Batman story will probably be his best...

I just like Bale the best. it's just too ballsy and interesting for me to turn my back on.

I like the voice Bale uses, and I still want the evidence his voice was computer modulated in TDK. I followed the development of that movie everyday and I don't know how I would have missed that. The way he speaks, it's difficult to do consistently, so with three years between filming the movies, I assumed that is why they didn't sounded the same between Batman Begins and TDK.
