The Dark Knight The Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne thread

i still think he should of just had some grey pajamas with black shorts and boots over them.

I loved Bale's voice as BATMAN, for one thing it was much more believable than all the other actors in the live action that have portrayed The Caped Crusader .

1. Adam West - The Campy era , He didn't really change his voice when he was Batman . He sounded just like Bruce Wayne .

2. MICHAEL KEATON - The Dark Beginning , He whispered when he doned the cape & cowl . And as Bruce Wayne he voice was low key.

3. Val Kilmer - Forever bound in Darkness , His voice was a little to much Supermanish at times as Batman . His voice as Bruce Wayne was spot on .

4. Looney Clooney - Return Of the Campy era, He didn't change his voice for the role . nuff said ...

Christian Bale was the first actor portraying The Dark Knight in motion picture that actually changed his voice . The only other actor to do this is the great Kevin Conroy from Batman : The animated series . Hailed by bat-fans as the definitive voice of Batman . He had two voice completely separated voices for BATMAN , Bruce Wayne . Which worked perfectly in keeping people from discovering that Batman's secret Identity .

Getting back to Bale . Some of my friends asked me why doesn't Bale's Bruce Wayne asked Morgan Freeman character Lucius Fox to create a prototype voice changer gadget from Wayne Enterprise R.N.D. - (Research & Development) to place within The cowl . (Similar to Darth Vader) . IMO I explained my reasons

1. It would be a real cop out that an actor couldn't change his voice. - That how I feel about Justin Hartley on Smallville as Green Arrow using a voice changer .

2. Since Batman battles criminals with the use of Super powers . He get's injured a lot . his suit was designed to protect his body from major damage . however at times even his armor get damaged and his cowl as well . What would he do if his Voice changer got damaged in battle ? His secret would be found out . because someone would recognize his voice .

3. I loved the growling/deep dark voice . It's shows both the anger he still feels from his parents murder & it serves a purpose It shows how far one man will go to be Intimadating. It's so animalistic and aggressive. Which is just what BATMAN is . He's a creature of The Night, A silent guardian, a watchful protector... A DARK KNIGHT...

 Agreed in every sense of thw word.:brucebat:

Umm, Keaton was the one that started the deep voice for Bats. And I suggest people watch B89 again if they think his batvoice was at all similar to his Bruce Wayne voice.

Everythings revisionist when youre trying to knock things down

Yup. Keaton's hushed Batman voice was the beginning of the whole Batman sounds different than Wayne trend.

Keaton voice sucked, Conroy owned him and then some . Conroy voice as Bats is very Intimidating .

And Bale's voice is just badass .

Personal preference aside, you didn't really address his point.

Bale has a tendency to get a little overzealous from time to time. That said, I still like it alot.

And anyone suggesting that Micheal Keaton's voice stayed the same should go back and watch B89 because that's just not true.

Ok I just finished re-watching both Batman 89 & Batman Returns

His voice is only different when he first says I'm batman to the thug on the rooftop in 89 .

The rest of the time he's whispering and it does sound like his Bruce Wayne voice in a low key .

I stand by my original statement Conroy & Bale were the only two that created two completely separated voices for BATMAN , Bruce Wayne .

The point still stands that Keaton was the first to use a raspy and deep voice for Batman, which was different from Bruce. His voice was similar to a whisper, but he spoke clearly and with resonance.

In the film's context, can you honestly say if you heard Bruce chatting with Vicki in her apartment and his convo with Vicki in the batcave after rescuing her, you'd think they were the same exact person? I find that excruciatingly hard to believe. The difference wasn't as big as what Bale utilized, but it was enough to distinguish the two. Keaton is more comparable to Conroy in this fashion.

someone mentioned the acting in the last scene with harvey, i thought that was the most gut wrenching part of the film, it gives me chills. when harvey says "why was i the only one who lost everything?!?!" and batmans like "you......wasn't" brilliant acting, it was subtle but you could really feel his pain. i also think that if he could of revealed himself to be bruce wayne it could of maybe pursuaded harvey to calm down but he knows he cant reveal himself so hes stuck in a dilema.

I absolutely agree with this. Bale's delivery of that line was spot on. You could only see a bit of the man's mouth and his dark eyes and yet there was SO much going on.

Batman: "You don't want to hurt the boy Harvey"

Two-Face "It's not about what I want, It's about What's fair."

You thought we could be decent men in an indecent world. But you were wrong; the world is cruel, and the only morality in a cruel world is chance.

Unbiased.

Unprejudiced. Fair.

"His Boy got the same chance she had Fifty-fifty"

Batman : What Happened to Rachel wasn't chance. We decided to act . We Three.

Two-Face : Then why was I the one who lost everything ?

BATMAN : It wasn't

Two-Face : The Joker chose Me !

Batman : Because you were the best of us. He wanted to prove that even someone as good as you could fall .

Two-Face : And he was right .

Batman : You're the one pointing the Gun, Harvey. So point it at the people responsible .

Two-Face : Fair enough, You First .

I don't get it. Is this point that hard to comprehend?

Keatons voice was pretty epic, but it wasn't raspy or deep. It was a chilling whisper. Which is great, but Bale owned his voice a tad. IMO of course.

I'm sure this has been talked about in the thread, but there's a 100 pages.

I guess my only question would be why would Bruce show the city he's Batman and give into Joker's demands? I mean, what reason does he have to trust Joker to stop killing people? He honestly expected that maniac to turn himself in or something? Seems kinda naive. Maybe I missed something?

Rachel tells him this too. I think him turning himself in wasn't to stop Joker from killing, though he no doubt hoped it would, it was to stop Batman from having to cross the line. Hence Wayne saying "I see now what I have to become to stop men like him" Later on in the interrogation room I think Joker makes him realize that he can't just stop. Things have changed and there's no going back. Watch Batman's eyes when Joker says all this to him. Its brilliant acting by Bale even in its subtleness.

The way I see it, and the way I heard it from Bale's mouth as well, when Rachel tells him that he won't stop the killings by turning himself in, he says: "I have enough blood on my hands".

So no, he doesn't hope the Joker will stop killing people. He just doesn't want to be the reason why those murders happen. Which, as he came to understand, wasn't the best solution at all.

I love the part when one of the Joker's thugs says "Freeze Pretty Boy" and point his gun at Bruce and all Bruce does is disarm & dismantle the gun . With this badass look of determination on his face as he walk away .

I gotta give pros to Bale on how he acted in that scene . He was such a badass .
