The Dark Knight The Composite Christopher Nolan Interview Thread

I really doubt they would show a trailer to folks a few months ago with the very last scene in The Dark Knight, so it's safe to say we get some decent time with Dent's alter ego. I just hope I'm not left with the feeling that the movie could have been better with him cut...

I thought we did?

Nolan has been quoted saying he takes his films one at a time, if that's the case (and who are we to say otherwise) it's unlikely he will end with any sort of teaser. My bet is the ending will most likely be similar to Begins, it'll wrap things up but leave the door open for a third film. He may feel two films is enough for this series.

I wasn't that teased at the end of Begins. I was fully satisfied. I was just so glad that they finally got this thing right and when I saw the Joker card I was like "oh cool, so they are going to bring the Joker back, that should be interesting". :yay:

christian bale said in an interview that it like bb is a stand alone film but leaves itself open for a very interesting sequal

Well obviously they made a sequal.

Anyway, what's he going to say? "This story is really unfinished and unsatisfying. It definitely needs another film to explain some stuff and wrap it up." =P

that's what he said so that's what i posted

of course they're making a third film, no futher investigation needed

I can just see that press conference:
'God I hate what Nolan did with the Joker. The make-up sux, permawhite rulez! And don't get me started on Gyllenhaal - man, is she fugly.'
'Sorry, Christian, could you repeat that? My tape recorder was broken.'
'Sorry, dudez, can't remember it.'

The more I hear about this film, the more it reminds me of The Long Halloween.

Lol. Now, lets translate that into Bale-speak.

Reporter - "Hardcore Batman fans are up in arms over the Joker in TDK. Do you like the new look?"

CB - "I think Nolan had a very interesting take on the Joker character. The make-up is definitely not what the fans are going to be expecting, it's not straight out of the comic books, you know? So there is risk taking there."

Reporter - "What about the new Rachel Mr.Bale? A rather unusual choice to replace the star Katie Homes, wouldn't you say?"

CB - "Well, Maggie creates a lot of conflict between my character and the character of Harvey Dent. Bruce Wayne has realized he can't be involved with her, and yet she's caught in the middle of a power struggle between these two iconic forces, Joker and the Batman. It's going to be very exciting to watch I think."

That's EXACTLY how he talks in interviews too. He's the master of being non-specific with his opinions when he hates something, and not making any kind of personal comments, especially about his female co-stars and love scenes. And he's great at completely ignoring the actual question (usually a leading question) and just saying whatever the hell he wants, and they never call him out on it! =)

THL certainly seemed to be the real 'Backbone' of the movie.

Batman Begins = Early Ras Al Ghul Stories + The MAn who falls + Year one

TDK = The long Halloween + The Joker 5 way revenge.

Over what, the Bale "interview?"
I'm not suggesting he thinks those things, it was just a funny example if he did.

Where did that other joker-lines-in-the-trailer thread go? Did it just get moved? ARG!

Over the fact that he's ignoring the actual question. When he gets asked about the plot, he can't answer because it's top secret. When he's asked idiotic questions, he sidesteps them. When they ask him good quesitons, he's had no problem answering.

Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart join a line of high-profile actors who battle Batman.

HEATH LEDGER and Aaron Eckhart, welcome to Hollywood's elite and gaudy Arkham club.

In the highly anticipated new Batman film "The Dark Knight," which opens July 18, Ledger is stepping into the purple suit of the Joker, while Eckhart will portray Gotham City Dist. Atty. Harvey Dent, who starts the movie as a handsome lawman but ends up as Two-Face, the villain driven insane by disfiguring wounds.

"Harvey Dent is a tragic figure, and his story is the backbone of this film," says Christopher Nolan, the director of the acclaimed franchise-rejuvenating 2005 film "Batman Begins," who returns with Christian Bale again playing the caped crusader. "The Joker, he sort of cuts through the film -- he's got no story arc, he's just a force of nature tearing through. Heath has given an amazing performance in the role, it's really extraordinary."

Ledger and Eckhart will be joined in "Dark Knight" by "Batman" veteran Cillian Murphy, who reprises his role as the Scarecrow.

There's a long and colorful screen history of Gotham bad guys who all seem to die violently or end up imprisoned (if only briefly) in the bleak towers of Arkham Asylum. The scenery-chewing roles -- as well as some staggering paydays -- have attracted a gallery of Hollywood's biggest names, including four Oscar winners (Jack Nicholson, Tommy Lee Jones, Jack Palance, Christopher Walken) and half a dozen Oscar nominees (Michelle Pfeiffer, Liam Neeson, Jim Carrey, Uma Thurman, Ken Watanabe, Danny DeVito) and, um, one frosty-looking governor (Arnold Schwarzenegger).

Don't expect a lot laughs in this summer's return to the cave. "It's a dark and complex story," Nolan said, "and the villains are dark and complex as well."

I know, I'm not saying he avoids questions because he's mentally challenged. He's very smart in his interviews, and very diplomatic.

There are movies he's been completely ashamed of where he would describe them as "an interesting experience" etc. Very classy. But sneaky too =)

He lies about everything personal. One time a reporter asked him if he ever wanted children. He thought about it and said, "Maybe someday." A week later his wife gave birth!

Another time a reporter asked him something about Scarlett Johansen and how shes only 21 and what was it like to work with such a babe...and did you know she was voted the sexiest woman alive in xyz magazine? You should have seen the expression on his face. (Devoted husband, and Scarlett is a bimbo.) The way he said "Really. (long pause) Interesting" had me laughing soooo hard. It was perfectly diplomatic and evasive but quite clear he was disgusted by the reporters tone, lol.

Oh, I thought you were saying the previous stuff in the negative way.
I agree with this post. The guy just wants to be asked about his job and to be left alone, as far as his private life is concerned. I admire that in such people.

Well I on the other hand hope it is 100% accurate as I don't really need Joker to have a plot or some other forced reason - like B89 Joker... I prefer my Joker be a pure anarchist who simly loves chaos

I also like Joker as a pure anarchist who simply loves chaos but I'd also rather he have the most screentime second to Batman. I want as much Joker as possible:o

I cant believe some of you guys are serious. Harvey will be getting his movie the third go round!! It's the Joker's time right now! I'm going to see this movie because of the Joker, not Harvey Dent. This news sucks if true.

Exactly, there's no way they would give Harvey more screentime than The Joker in TDK....considering Batman 3 will be Two Face's film.

Priceless! :woot:

Bale's interviews are always a blast! There's something very unique about him even when he just sits and answers questions.

for example check out "the question number 4":

I'm not sure I believe that the Joker has absolutely no plan. I mean... we hear him say (in the trailer) "It's all part of the plan" so there has to be SOME sort of purpose to what he's doing. It may not be effective in the grand scheme of things... but that line meant something...

"But I've been wrong before"

Yah, it was great. I'm sure it's still on you-tube. It was an interview for the Prestige and I think it might have been e-entertainment or e-online or one of those silly shows asking him questions. A whole bunch of people commented in the comments section about him saying the "Really. (pause) Interesting." Because it was sooo obvious. They were like... "Um, he's got a smokn' hot wife, he doesn't need Scarlett." Lol.
