I agree with Nolan... the movie should contain Two-Face's origin, because his origin is dramatic and interesting... one man/two personalities at war with each other... Harvey is good, Two-Face is evil.... that's good drama. People in real life have split personality disorders, it's intriguing material.

The Joker's origin is too silly. If I directed TDK I wouldn't put in the Joker's origin either. Some say he was a failed comedian. How does a failed comedian turn into a mass murdering criminal mastermind? Or the other origin is him falling into a vat of chemicals and it bleaches his skin and then he goes crazy. That's just.... dumb. I've always thought the Joker's origin was dumb, honestly.

I wouldn't include it either.

This movie is about the corrupting influence of evil and the inability to enforce justice on the world. Really, it is. Joker's mantra is, "There's no justice. There's nothing at all. There's just us." Dent, naturally, is going to be the golden boy figure who states the opposite. And we're going to see him get totally destroyed.

Ideals (Dent) meeting reality (Joker) is a fine backbone to any story. Batman is the one caught in between. He's too smart to completely get lost in Dent's vision, I bet, and when Dent falls from grace he's too good to get sucked in with him. He's going to have to tread a fine line.

That's brilliant. Spot-on. Couldn't agree more.

We don't know how he and Bruce interact or how he and Batman do either. We don't know his philosophy on crime or why he came to Gotham. I mean, Rachel didn't seem to have a philosophy. She just seemed to spout dribble as the DA.

If we go by the ARG, Harvey Dent seems to be a politician in the making. It's difficult to tell whether his concern is genuine or if it's just for show, but he definitely seems to be making a name for himself.

I think Nolan's comment about the Joker is sumed up pretty well in the teaser trailer where Alfred is explaining the Joker, how he can't "be bought, bullied or reasoned with, some men just want to see the world burn". Joker doesn't have a master plan besides producing chaos and anarachy. I think Dent trying to fight this, becomes a casulity of it.

The sober, lucid kind of thinking will get you "flamed" into oblivion! I totally agree. I think that Wayne and Dent's character development will really drive the film -- and that the Joker serves to up the ante in terms of inner conflict for both of them. I don't know where they're going to go with it, but I'm looking forward to it, surely.

I cant believe some of you guys are serious. Harvey will be getting his movie the third go round!! It's the Joker's time right now! I'm going to see this movie because of the Joker, not Harvey Dent. This news sucks if true.

Look a the advertising. Its all Joker. And the first one, IBIHDT, was The Joker with a Harvey Dent backbone. The Joker will be front and center ****ing everything up, Bruce and Dent both try to fix it, ending two different ways of course. Its the Joker's show but Dent's story.

Here's my question.

What is the relationship between Bruce and Harvey?

I mean, we've heard rumors that they're sort of friends/rivals (has that been confirmed or not?) but what does that mean? (if true)

Why would Bruce be friends with him if he's new in town? Couldn't be very close friends as there is no backstory for that in BB, and Bruce isn't exactly concerned about his social life.

And rivals? What, over Rachel? I mean I think it's pretty clear by the end of BB that Bruce is over her and has faced reality. I'm not sure how else they could possibly be seen as rivals. Public Bruce is a rich stupid playboy. No one is going to out-do him in wealth OR stupidity, so what would he be competing with Harvey about?

Any ideas?

Well from one of the lines Harvey and Bruce meet for the first time and Harvey says something like

"hi bruce rachel has told me all about you"
bruce responds with "I hope not everything"

So chances are they aren't old friends like in some comics. Now as for rivals I think Bruce might get a lil bugged that Harvey is considered the champion and batman is not so there is that subtle emotion, also I think it is more like a friendly rivalry not a dick measuring contest.
