The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Of course he could say no. I can’t imagine they’d be able to strong arm him into it if he didn’t want to. In a total fantasy scenario where that happened he’s probably contractually obligated for a trilogy at most and they’d want DCU Batman for more than that.

That’d never happen though, if it happens it’ll be because he enthusiastically thinks it’s a cool idea. Which he might well! I suspect if merger happens a lot of it will stem from Pattinson wanting to do it.
I feel like because of some of his more interesting movies, people have this idea of Robert Pattinson being a super pretentious artist who turns his nose up at commercial projects, that I think is just pretty far off-base. Yes, he was obviously not thrilled by his Twilight fame, but lbr, no one outside of a certain demo was. Dude's also a guy who grew up loving Batman and wanting to play him, and I think if you pitched him something to do as Batman that sounded cool, he'd 100% want to do it.

Totally. You probably couldn’t lock him down into an insane contract which I could SEE being a hangup, but I would be a little shocked if they weren’t willing to chance it so long as he’d sign up for like…even a singular Justice League movie. He very pointedly and ambitiously wanted to Batman as a career move as well as a creative one, there’s no way he wouldn’t entertain the notion.

I’m not even sure the DCU will be all that demanding of its big leads in cameos, etc. Hasn’t been shown one way or the other yet, and if it is I feel like they’re pretty happy with Corenswet being That Guy.

Yeah, Pattinson strikes me as the opposite of pretentious. If anything, I could see him not wanting to cross Matt Reeves ' vision and wish to keep his Batman independent from the DCU.

He also just had a kid and it’s not that uncommon for actors with young kids to just focus on easier roles for a bit. Obviously he’s had a huge outburst of productivity recently after presumably a Dad Break but it would be maybe the least surprising thing ever if just being Batman every few years was appealing to him.

Gunn working on a trailer also? Let's freaking go. Give this to me. Rotate those magnifying sun rays into these veins. Need.
Did you think the movie portrayed Superman as the animated series and Justice League Unlimited did?

I have said it before but i do hope they can merge the universes and we get Corenswet and Pattinson in a 10 picture RDJ type deal. Timeskip after The Batman Part 2 scrap Damian plan start of with Dick as Robin(18 or so).Maybe tie in Dynamic duo if it works. Get Jack Champion or whoever else cast. 5 or so Batman films(or whatever amount Pattinson is down for) , a worlds finest or Trinity film and Justice league trilogy.

Kinda would be annoyed though if we dont get a proper Superman trilogy.

What’s the most likely DCU project to come out in 2027? Brave and the Bold, WW or a Supes sequel?

Sounds very much like the Super Fam thing is next.
That’s kinda what I thought given that we have not heard anything about the others. I guess 2028 is the goal for those. I just hope Teen Titans happens as well. And hey next year, I get my Green Lantern show!

Gunn talked about staggering Batman movie releases, so with The Batman Part II coming out in ā€˜27, seems more likely we get The Brave and the Bold in ā€˜28.

Superman seems very likely for ā€˜27, WW I feel like will be ā€˜28.

This was her first Superman movie. Love seeing newbies fall in love with the character. :supes:

Oh my dear Chick, if you love seeing westerners falling for the character how about middle-eastern and North Africans who are normally hostile to USA foreign policies (understandably)?

This is a segment from a very popular Arabic channel (near 10 million subs) appropriately called "Al-Araby" where they are discussing Superman's stance with Palestine and the character's anti-imperialist message despite his USA origins. The presenter indicates that the channel received 9 MILLION positive messages (not likes but whole written messages) regarding the film and character. Also if you can read Arabic you'll be able to see dozens of messages about the character and how people are surprised by this American character that they thought was simply propaganda for the American war machine take such a harsh stance against imperialism.

Another link to yet another massive Arabic news channel about Superman's Gaza stance:

This is a heart warming video by a muslim mufti (individuals who do religious sermons) talking about how Superman is his very FIRST film to watch at the cinema and he thanked the character, an AMERICAN character no less, for standing up for Palestine while the Arabs and their leaders are standing idly by. The title of the video reads "Thank you Superman"

Look I have no intention of starting a Palestine/Israel thing here (there is a whole thread about it on these very forums) but I just wanted you all to know that this film has gone far past you average summer blockbuster and the positive reverberations of this film will be felt and talked about for decades and I am not exaggerating here.
Superman, historically speaking, has always been on the right side of history whether be it his stance against Nazism or Racism or even the John Byrne story line about Maggie Sawyer's struggles with homosexuality and the custody of her son (all the way back in the late 80s) and this is no exception. People will be talking about this movie for decades and how it took a clear stance against Genocide while the rest of the western world did all it could to cover it up,

It goes to show the DCEU really put a hurting on DC concerning the general audience. Superman saved the day. I think the DCU needs to strike while the iron is hot. I don’t know what order it will happen but movies featuring Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will be next after Clayface in the DCU. I think everyone else will be on HBO unless it’s a side roll in a movie. They don’t want a Thunderbolts situation. Although I would love to see a JSA movie, Flash, and certainly the Lanterns on the big screen.

26 - Supergirl & Clayface
27 - Super Family & The Batman Part II
28 - Wonder Woman (and maybe Brave and the Bold)?

And maybe they can get around to resurrecting The Authority in the future, for a 2029/30 release? Just because it hasn't worked out on the first go, doesn't mean that the movie is NEVER going to happen. I can see them resurrecting Sgt. Rock, too , down the line.

I suspect there will be a 2nd movie in 2028, but not one as big as The Brave and the Bold. I think they will go with one major DCU tentpole + one smaller DCU OR Elseworld per year. So I think 2028 will be Wonder Woman + one smaller movie yet to be confirmed (like Huntress or Bane/Deathstroke). 2029 seems like the ideal target for BatB imo. They seem to be in absolutely no hurry to get to it, and they've got a Batman movie moving full steam ahead at the moment to keep the suits happy. Once the Batman II comes out, that's when I expect actual movement on BatB to begin, for casting/pre-production in late 2027, production in 2028 and release in 2029.

Wonder Woman + Sgt. Rock, maybe?

I would like Swamp Thing to get off the ground sooner than later, but with James Mangold caught up in the Star Wars universe, I don't know when that could happen.

Wonder Woman + Sgt. Rock, maybe?
Maybe, if they can ever agree on that one creatively! I'm kinda wondering if they might do TWO smaller movies + 1 big tentpole on the years when they don't have a Batman-sized Elseworld tentpole. Cost-wise, that might be more equal, and they do seem to have quite a few of those smaller ones in various development stages.

Which I like. Keep the variety going. I feel like the misconception that every movie pulled from a comic book needs to be a $200 million four quadrant blockbuster didn't do comic book adaptations any favors.

Yes I think it is a much healthier approach...if they do it well, of course. But some $40m-$80m movies per year that don't need to make more than $200m to make a profit is something all the studios should be making more of. And not just horror!

It is Super cool isn’t it? I have a friend from Tehran who doesn’t know Superman at all and is really falling in love with the character thanks to the new movie. Great to see people discover a character like this (that has been a part of my life since I was like 3 lol) for the first time.
