The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

What I find odd as of late is how the topic of movies has completely shifted to box office numbers, "what it needs to break even" and all that financial side of the business that should only matter to the studios. It's boring and it really doesn't add anything to the quality of the film. When we look back at the films we love, nobody cares or remembers how much money it made.
People seem to believe they're Hollywood insiders for commenting movies online now

To be fair, the Mad Max and George Miller part I agree with. It is a bummer that Furiosa didn't do better and that we may not get at least the planned The Wasteland.
Well that was as much a problem with how they marketed the film. I don't think adding the Mad Max name to the title made any sense. But spinoffs can be difficult anyways...

That article Variety released after Sinners opening weekend was an embarrassment.

Sinners opening weekend was ok for the budget it had but it’s holds where record setting and it will out gross the last two Marvel movies. If I were Marvel or DC I would do all I can to have Coogler and Jordan in prominent roles moving forward.

All joking aside but why some folks want to hate on the Superman movie so much. Every time someone posts something positive on the site there is like a follow up negative post reaction. I find it odd. I saw a posting that all Superman needs to do is make $500 million world wide million to be a sucess at box office but then the writer wrote it will need $700 million to make the fans happy. That seems odd. :woozy: :dizzy:
There's a bizzare, almost cynical bias being thrown at this movie. I've seen it on X, among a lot of "film buffs". I think these people don't trust James Gunn, for whatever reason, and are being far too nitpicky.

It was better than just ok...

i think superman's a character that just comes with a lot of baggage being that he's the oldest of the superheroes.
so people have crystalized in their minds a long time ago on what superman is supposed to be - and everyone's got a different opinion.

if it's not either the donner version or the snyder version, etc etc, people will nitpick the hell out of it, more so than any other character it seems.

and there's probably the camp that just doesn't vibe with james gunn's style of moviemaking.

for myself, i want the film to be entertaining but also remind the audience that superman still matters and why he's the OG of comic book characters.

Now that F4 tickets are on sale, that should give us a decent gauge as to how well will Superman perform on pre-sales, given that they're both relativity close to hype.

I want this movie to make all the money in the world… But I also wanna get opening night tickets at Lincoln Square in NYC… Quite the conundrum indeed lol
