The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I will admit I am one of the fans that thinks Superman will make $200 million domestically on opening weekend and was bummed when the reports came out that it could make as low as $90 million. So I looked up the solo Superhero movies that have been rebooted. The Batman and Spider-Man Homecoming opening weekend box office was in between what most analysts believe is the sweet spot for Superman. Both movies were considered successful and neither made a billion dollars.

What I have come to realize is that Superman will probably be successful and the incredible pressure social media has put on this movie is ridiculous. I got overhyped into thinking Supes needs to make Avengers and Marvel team up movie money. To be honest with all the social media traffic, clothing, and toy sales the movie has made a ton of money already.

Guys just enjoy the buildup and have fun watching the movie. That is what I am going to do. Leave the box office debates to the studio.

And where is this exactly coming from?

It's the 1st film of a re-booted universe that is coming off the shoulders of a sunk one.

Heck, MOS made $116 million in its OW and it wasn't coming off a failed universe.

$200 million expectation is completely unrealistic.

Social media garbage that I fell for. That is what it’s coming from. The DCU is not going to make or break by one movie. Even if Superman is a bust, the DCU is going to go on. Superman has at the very least brought eyes to the DCU and it appears to be out pacing every movie that has come out in 2025 so far in early ticket sales.

No, superman won't make 200 mill ow, it never was, but it does have hype.

What I'm most interested in, even more than the $$$ it makes the first couple of nights, is the average joes reactions.
You know, The actual people who will make or break it.
And I'm Not talking about the well known critics on youtube either, just people like us.
That's gonna tell us more than anything if superman will be a hit, or not.

It’s hard to make $200 million opening weekend. Putting that type of pressure on a Superman solo movie is ridiculous. If it makes what it is tracking currently ($125 million is the median), it would be a good opening weekend for Supes domestically.

I still think it's going to make well over $125M.

$200M seems unlikely, but this movie has more hype and intrigued than any film this year. I could easily see it matching Minecraft's opening or even surpassing it.

As long as it doesn't have a Batman v. Superman level drop, it will be fine.

Does it have hype or does it have hype within super fandoms online?

Superman has sold more presale tickets then any movie that came out this year and on pace to have $100 million + weekend and it’s still 3 weekends out so yeah the hype is real with more then the fandom.

Currently Superman has what? $10mill in presale tickets?

According to my good judy, Google, New Avengers had presale tickets of $12million?

I'm glad I'm staying away from the TV spots and clips. Every time I'm swiping on social media, sometimes, it pops up, and I see a few good seconds of it before swiping right away to avoid being spoiled.

I feel a little bit mad when Gunn said spoilers won't ruin the movie. Yes, it will. Well, if the movie is good still, it will survive.

But the trailers for BvS really did ruin and spoil the entire movie for me, despite not liking the movie in the end. I already had a general idea of how everything would play out, but I wonder if I might have enjoyed it more had I not been spoiled by the movie. The only scenes not spoiled in the film were Jonathan Kent's cameo and "Marthaaaaaa". I fundamentally hate how they marketed the movie by giving us every single scene from the trailers, TV spots, clips and so on.

The trinity shot was literally the only trinity moment in the entire film. With the three of them. That was all we had. There could have been more. Okay, I got to try and move past this. Hopefully Gunn can make a better universe.

Who is the new Avengers? 10 million in one week and 13 million in early Amazon previews. On pace for $125 million opening weekend. Its doing quite well and will only get better the closer it gets to July 11.

That second weekend drop will be the telltale sign if the audience actually likes this movie.

Just deactivate autoplay where possible, like I did. Or swipe faster. It's doable, lol. I haven't seen any new movie footage since May now.

The only new stuff I'm seeing is whenever someone posts a screencap, and even there I try to swipe past it most of the time.

It's just the way marketing works.
