The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I'm glad Superman is prevailing with so many obstacles in front of it. Gunn didn't back down on that date. F4 probably would have done better in late Oct/Early November is what people are saying. Also, I've known Marvel die hards my whole life, who would constantly crap on DC no matter what (even when TDK came out, a few close ones crapped on it LOL!) I try not to get like that, but I've always been a bigger DC fan. Just glad that the GA seems interested in the DCU!

I wouldn't talk about karma and this or that studio deserving anything. We're talking about two competing studios which are in the movie business.

It's not that serious.

Yes, F4 doesn't have quite the legs as Superman. I think it was flickchick who said that, after seeing the movie, she didn't think it WOULD have. And I had the same thought after seeing it.

But there's no need to go into "sports team mode" IMO.

And after all, it's still going to be the most successful F4 movie and likely Marvel movie this year.

Superhero movies ,including Marvel, just don't have the free pass they once had at the BO anymore.

And besides, F4 is doing better than Superman in some countries. So...

One of the best analogies I've heard when it comes to the tribalism between Fandoms is, it's not Marvel vrs DC, you don't go to the Marvel comics store to go get weekly comics, you don't go to the DC store to get comics. You go the Comic Book store, they're share a space on the walls and spinner racks. We're all in this thing together. When one brand wins big, its a win for everyone because that means people still want to consume this stuff.

He is just doing his best to get Supes fans riled up :)

Nah, but I must admit seeing the Naked Gun movie having a higher RT score was not on my bingo card.

I've seen people say Superman is still not going to make WB any money, in fact, it's going to lose them money... I guess I don't see how that's the case at this point? It seems like it will hit at least 600. That seems like would at least clear the cost and maybe make a small profit?

Gunn himself debunked any argument that Superman needs to make a billion dollars to make money.

You gotta start muting the Snyderbro accounts because they’re the only ones who’d be saying that. :funny:

probably the best thing about this summer movie season is seeing pamela anderson and liam neeson finding love again through each other.

uncle and aunty are so cute together :teardrop:

faith in humanity restored.

Goal post change for Superman once again. Once it hit the 300 million mark at the American box office the movie became a success. Everything else is gravy now. The box office is booming with competition for the first time since before the strikes. I hope we get Dune vs Doomsday in December 2026. I give Dune a Oppenheimer vs Barbie chance. Comic book vs Sci Fi.

That’s… a choice.

To be fair, of all the goofy comic book superpowers out there, stretching might be my least favorite because it always looks silly to me. But I mean, I don’t think you should avoid that. I mean, that’s Reed’s thing. It would be like not having Superman fly.
I bet sue doesn't mind it.....

No one is saying it's that serious or trying to go into sports team mode. I want F4 to do well. I enjoyed it overall.

At the same time, I can find humor in the situation due to Disney trying to big brother Superman. Make no mistake about it, Disney was absolutely trying to hurt Superman's box office by scheduling F4 two weeks after. They counted on their own brand and the first MCU F4 film to bring in the crowd that might go see Superman instead. Summer is no longer the biggest money making time like it once was. They easily could have scheduled it in October or November, which have little competition and was wide open. They were very deliberate with that July date.

Sure it's business and that's their right, but one can absolutely laugh at their arrogance resulting in them having egg on their face.

Universal and Marvel tried to sandwich Superman and Supes is about to pass Jurassic World in the states as well. Superman wins……

Don't forget about all of the money WB stands to make on all of the movie merch (not just toys. everything all the way way down to pencils and erasers), tie in content/restaurant deals, and home release. This movie is making a lot more money than people realize...

How much will they attempt to downplay to ensure the cast doesnt get any big checks from their backend deals?

I'm sure there are royalties worked into the contract. But they probably won't make as much as they deserve. Heck David and Rachel didn't even make 1 mil from this.

And it was totally on my bingo card that a new Naked Gun movie would have a higher RT score than Man of Steel or any Zack Snyder Superman movie. You know, kind of like Neeson’s mid-budget generic action thrillers also tend to have (Cold Pursuit, Non-Stop, Taken).

Off topic again. Please let me know if this becomes annoying and should be moved to another thread. It’s just that I haven’t watched many comic book movies over the last 6 years, and am playing catch up on things that interest me.

Having said that, Deadpool & Wolverine is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. Can’t believe it was actually released.

Deadpool and Wolverine did not have to be great or good. It had the nostalgia of Wolverine combined with the new popularity of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. I was impressed with it because it did what BVS should have done. Give the fans what they want. A buddy cop Superhero movie. The movie’s job was to get Deadpool and Wolverine’s relationship right. The did that with flying colors. BVS was bad for me because the Superman/Batman relationship was all wrong. All they had to do was use the animated series relationship and it would have sufficed. Marvel kicked our azz twice. First with Iron Man and Captain America.

Both movies are some of the worst ever imo. Profoundly annoying on multiple levels.

I am not a Deadpool fan but Ryan Reynolds has made the character a movie star. It will be interesting how Marvel uses him in the MCU going forward.

I honestly cant stand Ryan Reynolds and Deadpools schtick got old after the first film. He and Paul Rudd can disappear for all I care.
