The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

The MCU vs DCEU was going to be a marriage made in comic book heaven until the BVS and Suicide Squad tragedy happened. If those movies were good it would have changed the landscape of the movie business. WB fumbled away two guaranteed billion dollar movies.

Sigh. I recall the excitement that a lot of people had back in 2015 when it looked like the DCEU was finally going to create a shared cinematic universe with several films (e.g., The Flash, Aquaman, JL Parts 1 and 2, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps) being announced.

that initial excitement for the upcoming dceu film slate...right when bvs was announced...before any trailer was seen...

i am trying not to hype myself now, because it's still too early and we've been burned before.

but how superman '25 turned out and the overall positive reception - the possibilities of where this cinematic universe can go, it's just so exciting.

BTS of the suit making process with the first visuals of the suit without the trunks.

Thank goodness we got the trunks.

Agreed. If you're going to ditch the trunks, then it would look better (imho) to make the belt red instead of yellow.

On another note, I kind of wish they had gone with that hairstyle for David as Superman in the final film. I honestly don't get why Directors constantly like to slick the actor's hair back and not allow any volume in their hairstyles.

I love the hairstyle we have in the film. It looks better than it does in those photos above. In the film, it looked styled but natural. The only time it really looked slicked back was due to the Kaiju fight.

Honestly, it was the best hair we've seen on screen.

So glad they went with the trunks. Without them, the suit yives off a kind of Star Trek jumpsuit vibe to me. It’s not a bad look but it doesn’t really scream Superman to me.

It’s crazy how much the suit has grown on me since that initial reveal. I still don’t care for that picture because I felt like it somehow managed to make everything about the suit look worse than it does, but seeing the suit in live action and other photos totally sold me on it. I love that it has an old battle armor feel to it in certain areas, giving off the impression that this thing can legitimately protect him when he needs it. I really feels like something that a supervillain would have to do some serious damage to if they were really going to impact Superman. Definitely in my top two favorite live action Superman suit designs. The Man of Steel suit is still probably my favorite design of them all, but this design is a very close second. And obviously what matters even more is the man in the suit and our new guy is the best.

No birthday wishes for James Gunn yesterday! Dang, ungrateful pack!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (yesterday) to DC Studios' mastermind!

That's bad too. The trunks aren't useless, they add dynamism: a red triangle that adds to the V-shape of the upper body, and they're a two-color punch of red & yellow breaking up the blue.

I refuse to believe Gunn found this to be a difficult decision lol.
Having seen the film now, I strongly suspect Gunn was leaning towards a more alien suit this go around (the KC/Warworld emblem, collar, no trunks) as part of Supes' arc of coming it feels like less of an alien and more human. I think it was telling when he said that we would see the heroes' symbols/costumes evolve over the course of DCU.

I am starting to wonder if we will see a more "classic" costume next time around as part of Supes' evolution.

I sure as hell hope they don't change the \S/. It BELONGS to this Supes now.
