The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Yeah I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with the Kingdom Come “S” but this suit made me absolutely adore it and now I have two shirts with it. I hope they keep the suit mostly the same; I would just open the neck area more so it looks a little more classic and less buttoned up. Maybe remove the collar portion alogther, though it has grown on me a lot.

I hated the KC logo, and I was particularly disappointed when they revealed this as the logo.

However, after the initial reveal, they slightly modified and boldened the bottom right of the logo to make it look more like an S, I fell in love with it. It's amazing what a difference that made in my eyes.

Surprisingly, I do not want them to ditch the collar as it works well with this costume. Maybe they could slightly modify it so it's not as high. Gunn has confirmed the costume will go through changes as the DCU goes on so we'll see.

James Gunn to Direct Next Movie in the ‘Super-Family’ at DC Studios After ‘Superman’ Success:

"James Gunn will write and direct “the next installment in the Super-Family,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed during the company’s earnings call."

Could this be Superman/Supergirl movie?

What if is Superman, Supergirl, and Superboy? Lex was cloning so what if he was already cloning Conner during the event of Superman. Ultraman was just the more advance adult clone. Brainiac can still be the villain. The "Super-Family".

That's to soon imo.

If not a direct Superman 2, then it should be a Superman/Supergirl team-up against Brainiac.

Or else a World's Finest with Batman. But done properly this time unlike BvS.

I would prefer a direct sequel since we never got that with MOS. But I would not be opposed to a team-up film. I just don't want them to fall into the same traps and make the same mistakes as they did with the DCEU.

The Superman Family movie is the giveaway of what the movie will be about. Could we be getting Superboy? If we do I hope it’s the flashy Superboy that wants to be a star and wears sun glasses. That would be right up Gunn’s wheelhouse. I expect to see Supergirl and Brainiac but they will dig into Jor-El as well. Could Lois get pregnant with Jonathan……….or is this a family movie.

2026
- Supergirl
- Clayface

2027
- The Batman II
- Wonder Woman

2028
- Superfamily
- Teen Titans

This is my take on what the next 3 years of the DCU is gonna look like assuming nothing gets delayed or cancelled due to appalling scripts.

We've already got a Superman, Green Lantern(s) and Hawkgirl in the universe, wonder woman soon, they just need to figure out what to do with the flash and Batman before we can finally get a Justice League film.

I don't see WW coming out by 2027. Probably 2028, and Titans later. Since the Superfamily has Gunn's focus, I'd expect that to hit before WW. So maaaaaybe 2027 for that one, if it's made official before the end of this year to go into production next year, but yeah 2028 at the latest for sure.

I also expect a smaller project ala Clayface to get greenlit and fast-tracked for 2027 or 2028 too. Would've been Sgt Rock, now it'll be something else imo. Maybe that Huntress thing or Bane/Deathstroke?

It's not like you're his roomate or something, so does it matter? Nope. And movies don't write and direct themselves.
You know, at one point, I did feel a little iffy about him as a person. But, having watched a bunch of the recent interviews, press and fun marketing on YouTube for the Superman film, as well as listening to a few podcasts, I really do get the sense that he has changed quite a bit as a person throughout the past decade.

He mentioned in the DC Showcase podcast and in the Josh Horowitz interview how at one point he used to think he had to be super edgy to get people to like him and pay attention to him, which is why a lot of of his earlier filmography was the way it was, and that him getting fired from Marvel Studios was a real eye-opener for him and caused him to do a lot of soul-searching. A lot of the cast of GOTG were the ones that supported him during that time and made him realize that there were genuinely people that cared about him and that he felt loved for the first time. I think he really took that to heart and it really does show in a lot of his later and more recent films/series, especially from Superman, which I haven’t seen yet but, going off of what people said, is also the case. (And, if that sounds like a certain talking raccoon in the MCU, there’s a reason why he’s James Gunn favorite character.)

He mentioned in the past how he didn’t want to do Superman originally, and I think that’s because the James Gunn at that point in time wasn’t the right fit for this film, but the James Gunn as of late was. The guy who directed Slither, Super and the first GOTG could not have directed and written this version of Superman. Is there still some aspects of his brand of humor and personality that still I still find a bit much for me at times? Sure. But I really think he has made an effort to work on himself and improve for the better, and working on Superman really helped play a part in that.

I always give props to people who recognize certain issues or faults about themselves and make an effort to change, which is more than I can say for a certain president in office right now who refuses to admit fault and just keeps doubling down.

Also, in regards to all of the past comments about how he spends too much time online answering and responding to questions, he also said in the same DC Showcase interview that nowadays a lot of those answers and responses to questions on Twitter/BlueSky are vetted and answered through another person that works for him because he’s so focused nowadays on being a co-CEO for DC Studios developing/writing/directing a bunch of projects. So, if you see one him online interacting with other users, its usually someone posting on his behalf.
Really hoping this Super family movie Gunn is working on is a Superman Supergirl team up with Brainiac and Lobo in it
So, basically kind of an adaptation of this:

I enjoyed Superman: Unbound quite a lot. I think that would be a cool way to feature Kara as a supporting character. I want to see Lex and Brainiac collide together at some point, I mean before literally colliding as Lexiac. Again, notes for Gunn, I hope he slows the story down a little, giving Lex a little more backstory. It feels like an issue though just because Lex has already lost the people's trust. That really escalated quickly.

So in the latest news...Gunn will write and direct the next Super-family movie?? Since Supergirl already has its own writer and director, is he talking about Superboy?? Or maybe he means Krypto. So who could it be?

Based on Gunn's answers, I think Brainiac is an afterthought. :o

You're ignoring the far more likely (imo) possibility that it's just referring to the "Super-family" as Superman and Supergirl (and Krypto) together.

Is The Batman considered part of the 2 films per year slate? So could it be a possible 3?
