The Dark Knight DVD - pre-order info...

Hey, was passing by my local Blockbuster video, and I saw a sign that said SALE.

So I popped inside and right as I was walking thru the door, guess what I saw playing on the TV @ the Blu Ray display?!

The Dark Knight.


Well, not the entire movie, just the opening bank robbery scene.
I asked the guy behind the counter and asked
"what gives?" while pointing at the TDK Blu Ray display.


He replied, "oh, we're taking pre-orders starting today for The Dark Knight DVD."

I said, "no *****?" (there were no customers by the checkout)
He said, "would you like to place a pre-order, guaranteeing your copy?" I said, "sure" and handed him my Blockbuster card. I asked "how much for the 2 disk deluxe set?"
"$24.99" he replied, "with a $5 deposit." "Or $19.99 for 1 disk,and $34.99 for Blu Ray"
I replied "cool, here you go." And handed the clerk $5 and then he handed back to me a receipt guranteeing my 2 disk Deluxe copy of TDK.

So, yeah, I'll be getting my Deluxe 2 disk copy on

I'll wait till it's formally announced so I could see what kind of cool stuff Best Buy or Circuit city are offering before I go to Blockbuster to pre-order a movie.

That's interesting as a date since both in the US and Canada new dvd's are usually released on Tuesdays. It's a logical date though, whether that means a general release the preceding or the following Tuesday (I had read a rumour of the preceding Tuesday as a possibility). At any rate, I'm not chancing someone giving it to me for Christmas; I'll be at Future Shop first thing the morning of release to get whatever super-deluxe version is available. But I might stroll by Blockbuster tomorrow....

I agree with this guy. Sometimes Best Buy will have some cool premium give-away as an incentive to buy from them....maybe a cool figure!

Future Shop, which is a subsidiary of Best Buy (I think), generally does: sometimes it's a steel case, sometimes it's a special "extras" dvd. And the first day sale price is usually pretty good. I just want this as soon as it is humanly possible to get it!!!!!!!!!!

i'll wait until the day of release. Best Buy and Circuit City usually sell new releases for a discounted price, and you get the occasional free stuff packaged with it like a comic book or lenticular cover (like the Deluxe Edition of Batman Begins). i know the DVDs will likely be flying off the shelves that day, but i'm not adverse to going to Best Buy first thing in the morning and being a little late for work.

It's after the end of term, so unless the fates are CRUEL and schedule an exam that day, I'll buy mine first day at Future Shop (in fact, I can probably reserve a copy online so even if there is an exam, I can get the nifty first day edition and price).

I went to Blockbuster today to rent a game and they were doing the same thing here (in FL, too). The guy at the counter said that they are already very close to having all the pre-orders sold out. It's pretty cool. But I hate buying new DVDs at Blockbuster.

Well there you have it, another confirmation that Blockbuster is in fact pre-selling TDK, and like Nirvana pointed out, that they are already very close to having ALL the pre-orders selling out. To me that sounds like we who pre-ordered are guaranteed our copies on day one. So I will not have to worry about having to hunt for it everywhere else and not being able to find it.
Because I believe it will probably sell out on the first day and fly off the shelves like somebody pointed out earlier in this thread. We'll just have to wait and see.

Oh and by the way, I too hate buying DVDs from Blockbuster, but as far as I know, only they are offering early pre-orders right now, while the movie is still in theaters.

I've never heard of a movie being sold out for DVD sales so I'm sure no one will have a problem getting a copy.

Agreed, there is no doubt that every store will have some extra goodies for the movies release and I'm certain that it will not be hard to find.

Exactly. I strongly support Best Buy and buy all my new DVDs there (minus a few cheaper DVDs at Wal-Mart or Target).

I got mine at a FYE I asked if they have the special edition for reserve
and said a steelbook set is on the way.

I get mine at work (Circuit City) for a store discounted price. I'll be getting my BluRay cheaper there.
