I have faith in Nolan. He isn't my first choice, but I'm willing to give Ledger a chance. Perhaps Nolan feel's he's the right actor to bring forth the story he'll be telling about Joker, through his eyes. With staying true to the character's history hopefully.

I don't think Nolan would just blindly cast Ledger as the Clown Prince. Nolan must have been blown away by a screentest or audition Ledger did. Had to be....

i think it's because of brokeback mountain. he gained a lot of clout(sp) for that role. he's a star now so i bet warner bros. thought it would be a good idea. studios probably have the final say.

People - NOLAN IS NOT AFRAID OF CASTING BIG NAME ACTORS! Warner Bros. would of not of made THIS move with out being on the same page as Nolan.

Nolan strikes me as the kind of guy who casts people for the roles they would play well, and completely disregards everything else. He doesn't typcast, but he's not against typecasting. he doesn't look for unknowns, but he doesn't try to get a big name. If he thinks someone's right for the role, he'll cast them whether they're a huge star who's never played a similar role before or a practically unknown whos been typecast repeatedly.

I mean, look at Liam Neeson. He played the mentor role that he's always typecasted in, and yet at the end he played a villain, which he had never done before.

Apparently Nolan and Ledger have been in talks with one another for a period of time.

thats what I'm hearing also. Notice how this was leaked the day of comic con? Perhaps to get fan reaction?? Regardless I trust Nolan.....I'm just curious what direction they will be taking with Dent/Two Face now? Can't wait to see who Nolan goes with.

If Ledger is cast as Joker...then I would prefer they go with a Dent that at least as old as Bale or slightly older. Thats why Eric Bana is starting to grow on me as Dent. I think Dent should be more be played by a more mature actor and not a young pup like Ledger is.

Katie Holmes recently gave birth to a new baby girl, and hasn't talked yet if she'll return as Rachel Dawes again. There are rumors she may take care of the new baby as a stay at home mother, while quitting acting in the process. Rumors also note that the Dawes character may be replaced by a new female lead, or an actress may step in to fill in for Holmes.

I wouldn't believe those rumors that say Katie will be stay-at-home mom from now on. No reliable source has reported that. Only tabloids, rags like The National Enquirer. Besides "People" reported recently that Katie had a meeting with CAA (her agency), which probably means, she is getting back to her career.

Sorry to disappoint, but I do think she will be back to this sequel. Hopefully she will even be in the third movie. :)

She was fine in Batman Begins but i could've killed her when she made more promo for War of the Worlds than for Batman Begins, that could be a thing WB didn't like... so FIRED...

I dont want her to return, she was the only weak part of an excellent movie. You could feel the studio interferance with her, and it made me even more angry when her role could have easily been changed to a havey dent. If she does return i hope she gets a nice slow (not TOO slow) painful death, with lots of screaming.

That's an absolutely unfair statement. Apart from her Dave Letterman interview, she barely mentioned WoW. For example, during her press junket, she answered several questions about BB and only a few about her romance. Same happened on her GMA/Regis and Kelly interviews. Obviously some press were more interested in her love life than BB, but that is something out of her control.

Besides it's been said many times that the studio has zero problem with how Katie promoted BB or with TomKat. And I would dare to say they were even pretty happy with that. ;)

Studio 'interferance'? Sorry.... but what is that supposed to mean? how did that happen?

Can Ledger do justice to Joker? Possibly. There are a lot of actors out there who could of been well suited for this role. However, that doesn't mean he's the wrong choice for Nolan's interpretation of the character. For one thing, Nolan wanted Joker to be young. It is ironic that the news came during Comic-Con, even though Nolan didn't make an appearence like he "supposedly" was going to. Which still means "Ledger as Joker" hasn't been given the official word. It would be rather disappointing if this whole thing turned out to be false, and built all this hype.

For Dent, it could be heading in the same direction. All the names that have been attached to the role, like Joker, could just be "grist on the mill". Probably incase Nolan can't find the right person he wants. For all we know, he could be negotiating with an actor privately. He did sound interested though when he was told Lucas was interested in the role, but hadn't heard anything about it. That doesn't necessarily mean that he wants him as Harvey.

Whoever he has in mind already, or whoever he wants to have a screentest, I'll support it. If Ledger is the right choice for Joker, in his eyes. Fine. If he wants someone young or older for Dent, same thing. As long as he feels he's making the right choice.

Honestly? If Ledger does in fact get the role, then it shows me that age isn't a requirement for Nolan. It's their acting ability toward the characters he's bringing on screen.

It was BOF who reported it. I wouldn't mind if Holmes returned to the sequel for continuities sake. She wasn't all that bad in Begins, as some hail her to have been. Regardless even if the role wasn't all too big. There was another report that if she didn't return, there would be a 'female lead', instead of a 'love interest' for the sequel.

It means that it felt that the wb execs wanted a romantic interest, so they told Goyer to write it in, and her casting is way off compared to the other established actors. you've got Bale, Neeson, Wantanabe, Oldman, Hauer, Freeman, Caine.....and KATIE HOLMES? i dont want to step on any Katie fans' toes (all 12 of you) but to be it felt that they just wanted their dawson's creek girl to star in their bat-movie. so they told Nolan to add her. of course i could be completly wrong but i know im not the only one who shares this view.

Holmes was Nolan's first and only choice. He and Goyer wrote the part with her in mind. If you didn't like her performance, blame Nolan not the studio.

WOW, that actually makes sense, I kept thinking about that in the past....

Well if thats true, that really dosent change the fact that she was the weakest part of the movie, and needs to go away. I'm not a Holmes hater, i liked her in that pieces of april movie, but she seemed so out of place. besides her story is over. Anyone who is hoping for her to return cant probably just forget it. :)
