Everyone's been NPCing him relatively conservatively. When I read through posts, I didn't see much of huge difference between this Xavier and the normal one.

Which of course, makes your job easy because it allows you to have your fun with the character.

I think he's a little less goody-two-shoes in this continuity, He's kinda intimidating and reads minds without permission too.

Villains always seem like they're needed, but that's really your call.
