The Doctor Doom Thread

Rumor going around the Twitter campfire is Javier Bardem has been quietly cast as Dr Doom.

Not sure how I feel about that if true cause then that goes back to the other rumor that Latveria has been reinvented as a Mediterranean nation with some rumored history with Namors people

Yeah, I’m the same. I think he could be a great Doom, but I don’t like the background change.

As a purist, seeing all the casuals over on reddit embrace Namor’s background changes as well as possibly Doom’s now leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It just screams forced diversity and inclusion just for the sake of pandering at the cost of being an accurate representation of the source material.

If they somehow cast the rumoured actor
Javier Bardem
as Doom but clearly distinguish him as Romani, I have no problem with that.

on the other hand, wouldnt it be in Disney’s better interests to stick with fictional nations? Imho that was good foresight on Marvel Comics’ part (as they get much flack for using negative stereotypes like the Mandarin even though i personally didn't find the comics version as offensive, i view the Mandarin the same way as crouching tiger hidden dragon- simply a relic of older traditions). Wakanda and Latveria being fictional is way more politically correct…which is usually the safest play in this day and age

And besides isn't
Javier a bit too old i mean he is 53 already. You might as well cast Mads or Nikolaj

Another thing I don't get is they kept Wakanda spot on...a technological African nation...when I saw it brought to life, I was in awe...I said Kirby would have been so proud to see it done justice....

I want the same for Latveria and more so cause it's long overdue to see a village/nation right out of a Karloff or Cushing Frankenstein film BUT with an advanced technological hand ruling over it....and why trade one diversity for another? Romani hasn't been represented yet in the MCU...a great opportunity

In the past, everyone and their grandmother has been rumored to be cast the members of the F4 and Doom , including Spielberg directing and producing .

They all scream fancast and wishes to me.

1000% a gothic “cyberpunk” for lack of a better term would be a sight to behold

Yeah, I'd hate for Latveria to be changed "Gothic Cyberpunk" is a great way to describe it, and would be incredible if properly realized on screen. And that aesthetic is the perfect companion to Doom's melding of science and magic.

And yeah, Bardem is too old unless they plan on deaging him for any maskless scenes and flashbacks, which would be wildly unnecessary. I stick by Kayvan Novak as my top pick.

Well I am going to hold out hope that Marvel doesn't drop the ball on probably the most influential important villain in the history of Marvel (dare I say comicdom) and maybe its selfish of me, but to me, for Doom to be a TRUE success and a well rounded character, the following are a must for him:

*Comic book accurate look (based on the leaks, no problems there)
*Silly as it may be, but lets hope they keep his name Victor Von Doom
*Latveria is a EASTERN EUROPEAN NATION (think Frankenstein villages in the old Universal/Hammer films but governed with a high tech hand)
*Romani background/persecution
*Father was a healer/medical man...Mother was a witch/sorceress
*Speaking of mama, Doom will hopefully want to rescue her from the dark realm of Mephisto or other demon....(See Triumph and Torment as a template)
*Perfect blend of science and sorcery...plus his various robotic armies
*Sees his rule over Latveria as the way it should be across the planet/universe/multiverse
*Absolute hatred of THAT BLASTED RICHARDS
*Messed up face like Kirby envisioned or thin scar to show his vanity like Byrne envisioned (either way but the mask stays on UNLESS it comes off in a scene where his face is totally in shadows and we only see the seared flesh under the eyes and nothing else)
*Speaking of, the actor playing Doom needs to be ok with leaving the mask on
*Doom needs to be seen as a threat to ALL heroes, villains, and gods (sounds like based on speculations and possible rumors, that won't be a problem either)
*Talking in the 3rd person would be ideal too
*His presence needs to send shivers in the room
*Whomever the actor is, please have an accent of sorts and let it boom/echo throughout the mask
*Allow Doom's supreme goal to happen in Secret Wars by becoming God Emperor

I know I am absolutely crazy to think all of that will be included in Doom's on screen appearances. However, a character like Doom IF they want him to be THE villain that even tops Thanos and Kang (and other memorable historical villains like Vader and such), then a lot of this can go a long way to padding his overall mystique. That is why I hope a "Books of Doom" style origin for D+ will happen and give us a LOT of what I am asking for and then sprinkle the rest of that throughout the rest of his cinematic/tv appearances. I also know that this needs to happen in the context of the MCU, but these writers plus Feige have to know how important Doom is to the overall plans and to fandom in general....I can only hope there ingenuity will astound us in the end.

That’s a good template.

I would hope they’ll do all or most of those things, but I’m not going to grab my pitchfork if they miss a couple of them.

But the idea of completely changing Doom and Latveria’s history is a real problem and since it seems we have near confirmation that Namor is being changed, I fear they see things like that as minor details.:csad:

i need to qualify what I mean by gothic. Not Hot Topic gothic but more like Castlevania/Bram Stoker’s Dracula gothic

that sounds like Doom BINGO. I especially liked these bolded points

That's the old Disney. Modern Disney insists on sticking real world 2022 issues and images into its fantasy content.
Yeah, we know Marvel would NEVER insert contemporary real-world issues into their stories :whatever:

Speaking of that, I still like the idea of the Van Doom's having been the rightful rulers of Latveria, overthrown by a US-backed coup during the Cold War. Gives Doom a strong motivation to emerge with the most powerful possible combination of magic and tech while tying in real world relevancy.

Dooms going to need a great team to bring him to life. Great costume, great actor, great script, great musical score theme

Javier Bardem as Doom?
This would be great, I did suggest this, I think, 3-4 years ago

Álvaro Morte is my guy for this though I do like the Kayvan Novak suggestion a lot.

I normally don't advocate for someone recording on their phone during a movie, but I hope we get to see some reactions from fan-filled screenings when he finally shows up.

Me llamo... Doctor Doom! Yo soy mas brillante que ese tonto Richards!

Well we know that Comic Con for Marvel is Saturday July 23rd.
We know that Disney Plus Day is September 8th with D23 being the next day on the 9th.

What are the chances of the following being confirmed between the 3 events:

Who is playing Doom? (they did reveal Jonathan Majors as Kang last time)
If the rumors are true that Doom is getting his own D+ show (hopefully it is true i can see that being saved for September)

Secret Wars being confirmed down the road???

Of course F4 news etc....doubt Doom's cameo in WF will be alluded to...just hope they say SOMETHING about him!

If I recall, there was no official mention of Thanos prior to the reveal, and I think the’d like to do that with Doom.

Yeah, all of us are aware of the rumor, but it should still be big surprise for 95% of the audience.

And I’m fine with that. As much as I’d like as much information as soon as possible, I can wait.

And it will be worth the wait to get the best possible reaction to Doom in the theater (assuming it happens).

Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe may have just been revealed.

A Reddit user uncovered a batch of new trademarks registered to the European Union Intellectual Property Office, and they seem to indicate what Phase 5 of the MCU will entail. Chief among them are the titles of two Avengers projects, Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. While these could be trademarks for any number of projects, the timing of them being filed ahead of Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con could mean the next wave of Avengers films will be announced this weekend.

*Well looks Kang is definitely being pushed as the NEXT big bad....that worries me that Doom is definitely going to get overlooked UNLESS Secret Wars ends with the fall of Kang and Doom's supreme moment....we better get movies that have Doom's name in it too like Avengers: Doomsday or Fantastic Four: Doomsday or something like that....
