The Doctor Doom Thread

These Doom rumors,if true, seem geopolitically driven, as if they want to avoid any reference to Eastern Europe. This would seem understandable considering the Russia-Ukraine situation. There 's been speculation that the Secret Invasion reshoots might be to remove any Russian references in the plot. I can't help but wonder if Disney told them to either change Doom's origin, or not use him for the time being.

Latveria is a fictional country though. It should have no bearing on current events. Eastern European and Scandinavian nations are very diverse...It would be like if they changed Wakanda to no longer be African simply because there is ongoing war in Nigeria and Sudan. Sadly this is just another sign of wokeism going the other direction...I hope Marvel stays true to the character and source material for such an important character.

Seriously, if you can't count on Marvel to get Dr. Doom right, what character of theirs can you trust them to get right? And it's all the more aggravating seeing how they've already had three movies exemplifying how not to do him. Just portray him as he is in the comics and you have a guaranteed winner.

I wouldnt say guaranteed winner. More like a step in the right direction. They can have bad writing and make it so Riri (Ironheart) is both stronger and smarter than the fantastic four put together and is able to 1v1 Doom. I have learned that Anything horrible is possible in the age of woke- as seen by the proliferation of Mary Sues (Captain Marvel, Rey Palpatine), and more recently the poorly written Disney+ Series Obi Wan Kenobi

Idk if i was having a nightmare but there were rumours of gender swapping Doom to be Victoria Von Doomette XD

that would go over REAL well here lol

On second thought Eva Green as a female Doom wouldnt be horrible, possibly as the daughter of Doom though

Behold! Victoria Von Doom!

They gotta get him right. Doctor Doom is arguably Marvel's premier villain. At the very least, he's up there with Magneto for the top spot.

We've already had two strikes with the character. Simply cannot afford a third one, especially with a character that could (and should) be positioned as THE big bad of the Marvel universe for the next decade.

anything less than what we got with Thanos (voice acting, acting, screen presence, writing, memorable quotes, meme potential lol) is unacceptable

Amen! Brolin KILLED it as Thanos...amazing screen presence...memorable quotes across multiple films...universal/global threat...comic book accurate look....i mean Doom now needs all of that plus his supreme victory in Secret Wars...

that is a tall order to make a film that surpasses Infinity War and Endgame...

i dont see it happening, but at the very least do Doom some Justice for once.

Well it can happen...picture something like Hickman's Secret Wars with Doom as the God Emperor...that's why I am aiming high for Doom...he deserves to be not just adapted right but in a movie that makes him look good and stand the test of time

well said. Anyway if anyone can pull it off, its probably Kevin Feige.

I wouldn't say guaranteed winner
I say guaranteed winner. He's a classic character. He's like Sam and Frodo, Gandalf, Magneto, James Bond, Darth Vader, Alice from Wonderland, Sherlock Holmes, Batman, Superman, etc. All you have to do is get him right and you'll be printing money. It boggles my mind that so far no one has even had any interest in getting him right.

honestly. Doom should be on the same level as Dracula, Darth Vader and the Joker. If done right, he has the potential to be one of the greatest cinematic villains of all time.

It makes sense to me if they cast Javier Bardem as Doom. He is the last remaining actor with the gravitas to deliver the performance of a lifetime- a real tour de force unlike has been seen in the MCU. He showed this in No Country For Old Men and I believe he won an Oscar for that role

I'm not really familiar with him, but you sell him well. I'd prefer he do a Latverian accent (he is an actor, after all) rather than turn Doom Spanish, but I have a feeling that Disney would want the woke points.

I think the trick is he has to have the key elements from the comics, but he has to have the BEST elements of the comics and he has to be BETTER than the comics.

Consider MCU Thanos or Heath Ledger Joker - they’re not straight out of the comics. They’re better than the comics.

I think one specific thing with Doom is he needs to talk less than he does in the comics. We can see from his actions who he is. He doesn’t need to tell us. He should be less talkative and more mysterious and intimidating.

I get what your saying...i want him to be intimidating, mysterious and such BUT when it comes to interactions with him and Richards...I want to see him fly off the handle a bit when he and Richards compare geniuses etc

A scene like that would work perfectly.

And we definitely need some interactions between the two with the clear rivalry.

But I think some comic writers tend to feel they need to explicitly state everything Doom is thinking and feeling, and I think audiences are smart enough to get it with more subtlety.

As one quick example: Give us a scene in which Doom discovers Reed has sabotaged an elaborate scheme of his and show Doom glaring and quietly vocalizing “Richards” with venom in his voice.

We don’t need to see him shaking his fists above his head and shouting: “RICHARDS!! Why must you taunt me at every turn?”

I'm not sure that Heath Ledger is the best example, that's a freakish once in a lifetime kind of performance. Maybe Trank thought he was doing the same thing with Doom, but that didn't work out at all.

We need a "Richards!" scene. Or ten. But for some reason I keep picturing William Shatner yelling "Kahhhnnn!".

the last paragraph makes me so hyped

Well Thor Love and Thunder was fun but now its done and we have one last movie this year....Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and perhaps the most anticipated rumored cameo in existence....DOOM!!!!

I’m going to be checking spoilers before I go.

I don’t want it to be a downer if I get to the end and there’s nothing.

I’m assuming no FF related character surprises in Love and Thunder, but give us some spoiler tags if there was anything we’d be interested in.:D

Well not so much a F4 per se spoiler but we did get to see "Eternity" well sort of and statues of Living Tribunal and Uatu
I'm always up for a guest appearance from Uatu. Some of my favorite scenes from any Marvel movie are from Guardians of the Galaxy 2, with Stan Lee and the Watchers. That was probably the most FF-related scene we had seen up to that point.

when i saw the silhouette of Eternity I almost exclaimed GALACTUS out loud lol

- as it relates to Doom, I thought they portrayed Gorr in such an epic way with a great actor who was intimidating and had screen presence. For these reasons, i am optimistic that Doom will be portrayed with the respect and grandeur we all believe he deserves as one of the greatest comic book villains of all time
