Comics The elephant in the room.

You know, as soon as I logged on this morning, I thought, "I hope a poster that seems to only post for the sole purpose of flaming the message boards will post up an Anti-BND/OMD thread to go along with the four-hundred other one we already have so that anyone who dislikes the new status quo for GOOD reason will look more stupid for being on the same side as someone like this".

And look! Here we are!*

*Please note the bitter, acid-laced sarcasm that is intended by this post.

People have been complaining about OMD/BND? I hadn't notice. :woot:

Thought you could use this

It's been two whole years since Spider-Man's continuing adventures essentially and effectively ceased with "One More Day."
Since that time The character of Peter Parker the Amazing Spider-Man essenitally remains in a perpetually arrested state, or or more accurately a regressed static state.
Mary Jane found herself placed in Gail Simone's infamous refrigirator.
Spider-Man made a deal with the devil while Nick Fury and Logan aren't allowed to smoke.
This was two years ago, but the wounds of this incident still weep fresh.
I am still very much enraged at the fiascos of OMD and the continuing BND, my rage builds upon itself like a sword being forged by a blacksmith.
Who is to blame for Spider-Man's defeat at the hands of cosmic evil?
Not Joe Quesada, Joe Quesada a merely a conduit for the masses- he merely gives the people what they want.
I blame you, all of you. I have started to hate all geeks and fanboys.
Why do I forsake the social sub-group from which I hail? It was your immediate embrace of reboots, re-makes, re-imaginings, and prequels
It was you who Killed James Bond, burried Jason, put Freddy to bed, and sent Michael Myers home. You all cheer at Comic-Con with every proclaimation of forthcoming blasphemey upon our culture.
You turned Sci-Fi to SyFy, and made G4 a sad clone of MTV. You wanted to be so cool with your Xbox Parties and your Red-bull that you destroyed geekdom. I am no longer a geek- I have become a reaction to your cultural artistic defamation.
Spider-Man is dead you killed him.

You'll say I'm crazy, but I am not the one who plays viral marketing games for the reward of Button pins and fake newspapers.
I may have no life, but your life is merely someone elses marketing ploy- you are simply extras.
So REFRESHING to know that there are other NON sell-outs who are STILL mad as hell over the crap that went down...

I come by once in a blue moon, hoping to read that TPTB have come to their senses, but WOG is right, why should they care when they can MANIPULATE the "flocks" SO WELL.

I never thought they could find a story I would HATE enough to quit over... I liked the character THAT much. I was wrong, and I'm STILL really pissed they took this enjoyment away from me.

You all can sit in here and tsk-tsk the angry, I could care less. I just want to represent the FANS who STILL think this is CRAP, and who won't support it.

:(

Damn straight, brother! Tell it like it is.
And regardless of wether or not it was approved by Marvel's corporate high-up mucky mucks, Quesada is responsible. He never made any secret of his disdain for the marriage. He insisted on Norman being the father of Gwen's kids in the abortion that ended up being called Sins Past, and was ultimately responsible for the craptacular asshattery that was/is the One More Day/Brand New Day nonsense.
Thank you Quesada, for making reading Spider Man comics an even less pleasant ordeal than *****ting one's pants. At least I can clean up after myself if I soil my underwear...

Dude. That's a sister.

This is why I hardly ever post on these boards now.

There were more than a few posters PERSONALLY insulting WOG.

Telling him things like "go outside". What the hell is a message board for than??
We're all supposed to come on here and talk about Spider-man. Likes and dislikes. That's what an opinion is.

This new style of story telling is very divisive, and its STILL controversial. That is fact. It's cool if some of you like it......

But attacking the man because he doesn't like what MANY people think is a crappy direction? That's just lame and childish, and I don't agree with that. It's wrong on so many levels.

Maybe a joke here and there (that's in good taste), but where are the mods at on this kind of thing?

And when have these "men in black suits" that tell Joe Q what to do, suddenly appeared. If they were REALLY in charge like THAT does anybody think it was a good idea "market wise" for Spider-man to make a deal with the MU's devil. Really? :hehe:

What I am saying is I don't like reboots.
BND is worse because as Spider-Man's storyline was essentially cancelled.
It put us in the middle of a continuity we had NO experience with.

I felt the same way you felt about a year ago dude, i'd advise you to just let it go man. Quesada's heart was in the right place but his execution was god-awful. Quesada was afraid that Spiderman was aging too fast and at the rate he was going, by the year 2020 he'd be an old man and the readers wouldnt be interested anymore. Even though i dont agree with this theory, Quesada's heart was in the right place, he was trying to preserve Spiderman's youth. Yes continuity is a mess right now and there's a lot of questions that need to be addressed but...its best to just try and enjoy it. #600 was a good way of showing that despite all the huge changes, this is still the same spiderman we know and love.

I just want to represent the FANS who STILL think this is CRAP, and who won't support it.

That is fine.

In the meantime, I'll continue to be one representing the FANS who STILL enjoy this book, and who continue to support it. :)

I blame you, all of you. I have started to hate all geeks and fanboys.

Spider-Man is dead you killed him.

I may have no life, but your life is merely someone elses marketing ploy- you are simply extras.

People who support the status quo of the media actually are pawns.
I am past pitying you- you don't deserve that.

Y'see, 2 years of the same few people screaming everyday about how they hate Spider-Man now, how's he's ruined, dead, etc etc, how Joey's evil, how they're not listening to the fans, how Peter Parker is an evil, selfish, cheating, drunken ****e, etc gets OLD. After 2 years it's just noise. Constant noise in every thread on this board of the same people screaming about the saaaaaame thing for 2 YEARS. Those of us who actually continue to LIKE the books (and there are PLENTY) can't seem to go a page on here without having someone jump in and start spewing off these same tired complaints over and over and over again.

We get it. Some people were horribly insulted by OMD and refuse to buy the book again until they get a personal apology from Marvel and Marvel changes everything back to exactly as your portion of the fanbase gets exactly what you're wanting.

That's fine for you to hope for that. Maybe not realistic...but fine.

But for some of you to cooooonstantly whine about it every single day as if your points HAVEN'T been discussed and debated CONSTANTLY for 2 YEARS now has just finally reached the point of saturation. Nobody's hearing you anymore. You've flooded every thread so thickly with these same complaints over and over again that they're just background noise now. You might as well take your first post back in January 2008 when you first complained about this and re-quoted it over and over and over again because that's essentially what's being done.

If you don't like the direction the books have taken that's FINE. EVERYONE has their own opinion, and everyone has their own view about what works and what doesn't work for a Spidey book. Everyone has their own breaking points to what they'd accept and wouldn't accept for a Spidey book. If something comes out that ruins the books for you, that's horrible and never a pleasant thing. But to come on here post after post after post for 2 YEARS repeating the same thing, the same opinion and try to convince the rest of us who actually are ENJOYING the books that we're just "pawns" or "flocks" or "not true Spidey fans" because we actually like the changes is boarder-line trolling and extremely annoying.

So yes, I've moved on to the point where if someone wants to post the new "I Hate Spidey Now" thread of the day and rant about the saaaaame thing over and over again, yes, I'm going to be a bit condescending to him/her.

Forgive me.

I thought you were just lurking?:oldrazz:

No one was insulting him.

You know why I read Spider-Man comics? Escapism. To escape from the rigors of everyday life. I'm a grown man who works very long and rough hours. I have bills to pay. I have to sit in traffic and put up with jerk off neighbors with their screaming matches and their stupid drug deals.

I don't do drugs. And I only drink at social events, which have become extremely rare these days. I hate television anymore because it's littered with reality television. I love the comic book art form and I have always loved Spider-Man. Spider-Man, Batman, Green Lantern, Fables, etc. That's my escape. I go into those worlds and drift away from all those problems in my life. Work giving me crap? Bills piling up? It's a stressful life sometimes. So, Spidey can help with that.

My point? I escape into those worlds and, on occasions, those worlds are not the greatest in the world sometimes. Now if it's not giving me the escapism I am looking for...guess what? I STOP BUYING IT! I move onto something else. Do you know how many comic books get published? Yes, I have a very large like for Spider-Man but if those comics are not delivering for me I just DON'T READ THEM! I don't buy them. I don't support it if that's not what I want. Because on top of the stress I have in my life already...why stress myself out more over a comic book that I'm supposed to be ESCAPING from the stress?

If all of THOSE THINGS are bothering WrathofGod so much, trust me it's more than just a Spider-Man storyline read the guys post again, I am seriously giving him some advice. Go outside and take a walk. Don't think about that stupid non-sense. There is a lot more to life than complaining about something and driving yourself crazy over it.

Because let me tell you something. If One More Day, the SyFy channel, James Bond, Freddy Kreuger, and Joe Quesada is bothering the WrathofGod that much than he must not have too many REAL problems.

There is enough entertainment out there for people to escape from life. Take up a musical intstrument. Write your own stories. Read a novel. I could suggest a plethora of other things.

And, yes, a message board is designed for people from all over to share their opinions on things pertaining to what the message board subject is. I think the opinion has been expressed TO DEATH that a very large portion of people didn't like One More Day. Now you can either move on or you can, pretty much, drive yourself crazy.

Me? I'm getting exciting, fun, and action packed issues of Spider-Man and I'm getting my escapism fun. Not too much for me to complain about here.

I have said this in other threads and I will say it here. I am one of the fans who likes the current direction of Spidey. I really don't think there is anyone who actually liked OMD but some have chosen to get over it. If you like it that's great , if you don't that's great too. My problem is that both sides waste time and effort trying to convince the other that they are wrong for liking it or they have bad taste in comics, etc etc. I dont understand why me liking the direction or stories coming out should piss you off so much and vice versa. Different strokes people. I happen to like what I am reading. There should be no reason why I am made to feel like an ******* for doing so. Just the same way I am not gonna treat another like crap or make them feel like an idiot because they don't like it. So no I am not gonna tell people to get over the fact that they hated OMD and currently hate BND and it's subsequent stories. But I will tell you that I like and have no problem with it currently so get over that. People have different taste and like different things. It's time to start learning and respecting that. You hate it. I like it. Let's agree to disagree.

I think Captivated and I are the only intellectually un-compromised individual voices in all of Geekdom.

Well, I suppose my stupid compromised voice will have to take solace in the fact I get laid a lot more than you. :oldrazz:

Guys, TheWrathOfGod is a troll with a history of making ridiculous posts while posing as genuine.

He has a sock puppet account called TheZollyBeckerShow (named after a geek on YouTube who was extremely pathetic and derided by anyone who knew him, but failed to become a famous internet meme). In that thread, TheZollyBeckerShow posted a moronic idea for a Superman movie reboot where Lois Lane gets raped, Jimmy Olsen loses an arm, and Superman tries to commit suicide. Everyone thought it was stupid except for TheWrathOfGod, who said it was better than Superman Returns and made a bunch of photo manips saying he was actually "inspired" by that crap. The manips were actually quite elaborate (such as a technically well-done picture of Jimmy with a prosthetic arm), but it wasn't believable that someone would go through all that trouble for an idea that stupid. TheWrathOfGod also had all of a handful of posts at the time, which gave him away. I pointed that out and the thread was locked.

Later, TheWrathOfGod made another stupid thread about his ideas for a third Batman movie. Unfortunately I can't find that thread, but it was almost as dumb. He suggested that "Robin" be an inner-city black kid who Batman would adopt, and that the movie should focus on their "psychotic" relationship. He posted an idiotic manip of Robin being a black kid wearing a red hoodie sweatshirt. I pointed out his previous history and that thread was locked as well.

I expect this one will be shut down like all the others. Like the other hoaxes it showed some real effort. His rant was actually spot on for a while, before veering into incoherent emo territory.

Exactly. There are good reasons to hate what Quesada has done, and posts like this only give the BND detractors a bad name.

Bwahahahahahahahahahaaaaa.... :yay:

I remember an annoying poster named ZollyBecker... man, she weas nuttier than a fruitcake...

It's all starting to make sense...

:csad:

Ah yes I remember TheZollyBeckerShow. Freaking weirdo...
