This was recently reported by a poster on the Don Murphy boards from TFLive.com boards where one of the writers, Alex Kurtzman, reveals that the name Energon Cube was only a placeholder for the Allspark.

You know...this is getting kind of scary for me because with that name, as ridiculous as it sounds (It makes me think of a Cybertronian insurance company.) , it seems to imply it's concentrated spark energy, which is basically what I've been thinking the Cube was when I heard about it.

Its an invented concept for the lifeforce of the TF's (movie only, not in any animated or comic series)

I am kinda glad they didn't go with Energon Cube, in the cartoon energon cubes were plentiful and were used as a food sorce for the TF's. They even had small ones in the animated movie, Energon Goodies. Anyone remember Baweep Granaweep Niniban the universal greeting LMFAO.

I still get a chuckle thinking about how the Decepticons got drunk off of consuming way too much energon in that one episode that featured Perceptor. It's funny what they could get away with back in the 80's without being bashed too much by the PC police. Sure there were parent groups out there, but they weren't too all encompassing.

I thinnk it would be hilarious if they did a live action update of those Decepticons getting drunk off of too much energon, if in fact energon is used as a secondary fuel source. Drunken, stumbling Decepticons is too much to pass up!

Off the current topic here, but Energon cubes should be called Energon cubes! Energon from Energy? Um, not a coincidence, so don't mess with that! A spark is the soul of a Transformer, so why call the fuel they use for equipment and ships Amm-Spark? AllSpark sounds like the name for the spark of Primus!

That episode is called "Microbots", and it's one of the best ever, esp. for that scene.

Then he sees Powerglide and commands the decepticons to attack him, but they are too drunk and keep falling and bumping on each other. Laserbeak flying directly into the ground is about the funniest intentional joke in the history of the Transformers. Great stuff.

I have every episode of Transoformers 1980, Beast Wars and Beast Machines on DVD. But anyway, who thought the transition for Transformers to Beast Wars was actually pretty acurate? As apposed to other shows where transitions or spin offs are completly different and retell way to much.

uhh Beast Wars took place a few hundred million years before the Transformers were reactivated.

And Beast Machines sucked ass.

Yeah. I was disapointed. But anyway, the timeline was Tranformers crash on earth, warp in time Beast Wars occur changing some future elements but go back through time warp, Transformers "Great War" occurs. Back to current Transformers time only to go into Maximal an Predicon timeline where the Axelon is dispatched and Beast wars occur.
