Eternals The Eternals General Disscussion and Speculation thread

If they are going to be true to his costume then he can't be gay because that would be way ott and open up a massive can of worms.

Perhaps I’m just tired and missing a subtext to these words, but I don’t know why he can’t have his costume from the comics and be gay?

He wasn't an eternal either. People just speculating.

Isn't his costume just an ancient Greek outfit? It's not far different from what we've seen in these old sword and sorcery movies like Jason and the Argonauts or even these Steve Reeves Hercules films.

Why do people even think Hercules is going to be in this? I know he wasn't an Eternal, so putting him or Starfox in this almost admits that the actual Eternals from the comics aren't interesting enough that they need them to give them a boost.

Starfox is one of the Eternals of Titan

But when they referred to the Eyeballs in the comics they usually meant that group with Sergei and Ikarid etc. All the Kirby stuff.

What is wrong with his costume? How can he not have his costume if he is gay?

It could also be Starfox who is gay. Or if they change Makkari to be gay.

I kind of want a bi Hercules, not just gay. Definitely not straight. Happy to have a bi character and gay character why not?

He's not gay but I wouldn't mind John Krasinski as Hercules. Not only does he look the part, he also has experience with comedy.

EDIT: I mean, look at this picture and tell me he wouldn't be perfect.

Hmm, he’s not really a bear type though. Hercules should be hairy like animal.

I was talking more the one with the braces. Looks like a gay stereotype from the 80's.

And Ganke is a Miles Morales character. Doesn't mean Marvel is going to just use a certain roster of Eternals. They'll pick and choose which characters they think will fit. Putting Starfox in this would be an easy way for Thanos to show up

If Hercules is meant to be based on the Greek myth of Heracles, then he was married to Megara, daughter of King Creon. He also had children, but he suffered a fit of madness and killed them. This led to the twelve tasks of Hercules to atone for his crime. That's pivotal to the myth.
Look up Abderus and Hylas on Wikipedia. :sly:

Let's face it, we're not gonna get a hairy Hercules.

Why do they want Thanos showing up after Endgame? If he's already defeated, then putting him in it will feel as if it's building towards something with Thanos. And I doubt anyone wants to see people take him on again. Endgame will probably be a complete defeat for him and the end of his story. It's time to move on with him.

And I didn't mean the Eyeballs or Sergei. I meant the Eternals and Sersi. That was autocorrect and typing late at night.

It's not just taking place post Endgame. Maybe Thanos will have a few small scenes, maybe he won't.

Is it that different from He-Man's costume? If we had a Masters of the Universe movie finally, wouldn't he wear something similar? It's all in the execution. But one of Hercules's costumes is a sash across his chest anyway.

Doesn't that depend on the actor they hire? Why should it not be a hairy Hercules? If they got someone like Henry Cavill (not saying I want him in the role) who has a naturally hairy chest, are they going to make him shave it just for the sake of not having a hairy Hercules?

I... really don't want to talk about body hair. I just don't see Marvel casting a very hairy dude as Hercules, that is all.

Guys, at no point did I say that I have anything against hairy chests (can't believe I just typed this sentence...) Heck, I just suggested a hairy-chested dude for the role.

What I'm saying is don't expect Marvel to cast a "bear" as Hercules. Honestly, I'm not even sure what a "bear" is. How hairy do you need to be to count as a "bear"? Is Cavill a "bear"? Why are we even having this discussion?

You brought it up and made it an issue.

But I didn't. I just said that I don't believe Marvel will cast someone significantly hairier than Krasinski (or Cavill, since you brought him up) as Hercules.

Now please, for the love of God, don't force me to write another post about body hair.

Can't believe that in this day and age we are still oppressing people with chest hair. Marvel should only offer the role to somebody who openly has body hair. Doesn't matter if they can act or not.

But...why wouldn’t they? Sorry to continue the discussion, but I’m confused. Is there something taboo about chest hair?

This is what I don't understand. I thought in fact it was the opposite that hairy chests were preferred by women and thought more manly and rugged. Look at people like Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan or Henry Cavill. And all the movie stars of the past (not the women obviously).

But whether you have it or not is neither here nor there. Some people naturally don't grow it and some do. I don't see the big deal at all.

I don't think anyone's asking for an Austin Powers type rug.

I think it’s the fact that you don’t seem to understand the importance because you aren’t the one who needs to see it. For a gay/queer person it means a lot more to them than a straight person.

The rest of the cast will probably be straight so there’s really nothing to worry about. Sadly, they are probably going to make him gay and then have him not have any gay partner/love interest so it doesn’t anger any overseas screenings. I’d be happy to be wrong about that though.

I’m just excited to see who they cast for Sersi (and the rest of the roles!)

As a gay man I can honestly say nothing annoys me more than the idea that a gay man (or woman) must portray a gay character (or the implicit reverse suggestion).

Always happy for better representation - but I have no problem with a straight actor portraying a gay character, or a gay actor portraying a straight character. That seems more progressive?

I think what @Abudefduf was trying to say is that Marvel isn't going to go out of their way to make sure whoever they cast has a hairy chest. If he does, I don't think there'll be a scenario where they tell him to shave it or anything lol

Pretty much, except I wasn't even talking about any specific part of the body. I just can't see Marvel casting a guy with hairy shoulders as Herc. Sorry but that's not gonna happen.

Who was talking about hairy shoulders here? Next you'll be talking about a hairy back!
