Eternals The Eternals General Disscussion and Speculation thread

It's hard to know for sure since we don't know all of the director's experience on these movies, but what I gather, it seems it just comes down to the director with the experience and knowledge of this stuff to be able to do what's what. Previs isn't inherently bad, it's historically very, very helpful, and I can appreciate the technical level and knowledge of stuff like this, but in these instances, it seems almost too controlled and precise in the interest in just saving money and time. That controlled preciseness also just seems to clash with the inexperience of more indie directors not directing big movies beforehand.

I just compare these shots to the likes of Raimi and Jackson when they made their films. Those movies came out 20 years ago and are still miles better than any of these action scenes. I think it's just a combo of those directors having experience in special effects movies to be able to articulate what they want, yet working with the right artists to execute it.

I wonder who the first established MCU character will be to interact with at least one of them.

It looks like the most unique Marvel movie since Ragnarok. I’m confident this will at least be entertaining and more thought provoking than your typical MCU/MCM movie.

Can always count on you for great gifs

That was an incredible trailer! The first one piqued my curiosity, but this one has me absolutely hyped. And those visuals... while I still wouldn't call them Kirbyesque just yet, they were great! I can't wait for this movie, and how it might lay the groundwork for a certain former Fox property.

If I have to bet someone from Wakanda or Thor 4.

Spider-Man 3/WandaVision are linked to Dr. Strange 2. Black Widow is linked to Hawkeye. Loki is linked to Ant-Man 3. Shang-Chi from the spoilers is linked to Capt. Marvel/Hulk. Ms. Marvel/Photon are linked to Capt. Marvel. So that leaves Wakanda and Thor 4. While gotg is included in Thor 4's cast.

This trailer wasn't really doing a lot to develop the Deviants, but I think we might be getting a Skrulls type misdirect where they will turn out to be victims and Arishm will be the true villain. But I think there is gonna be an interesting swerve somewhere in this story.

Yep it seems like it and I think Ikaris is evil for some reason. I don't get good vibes from his character.

I think the deviants will be failed experiments and the eternals are the perfection. Arishm probably tried to wipe them out but failed too and now they want revenge and start taking out celestials. I wouldn't be surprised if they're the ones that took out the KNowwhere Celestial.

Otherwise, what a trailer. Got a lot of MOS vibes from Ikaris.

I will not be happy if Makkari is killed off at the end of this film. I hope she's alive at the end of this film because the MCU needs a speedster among their heroes ever since the asinine decision to kill off Pietro in Age of Ultron.
I forgot to say this before. But unless they are going to deage the actress in future films, I wouldn't be surprised if Sprite ends up as the casualty in the movie.

Ikaris turning heel wouldn't surprise me. I have a feeling one of them is.

I have the same feeling to be honest. The teaser with him as Potential New leader of the Avengers would be perfect misleading marketing. And it would make some drama for Sersi, I see Zhao is doing this.

But not a fan of this, I want that Madden stay in the MCU a while as a hero. Or at least an antihero pls.

Looks interesting. The comedy beat at the end stuck out like a gangrenous thumb, and had no business being in this trailer. The humor was fine, but completely wrong for this trailer's tone. As usual marvel uses comedy like a safety blanket.

C'mon @Spider-Fan, you're better than that.

This post confuses me, lol.

I dont think what is actually happening is going to be as straight forward as it is presented. Plus there is the whole Deviants are ugly and evil and the Eternals are pure and beautiful thing that I think they will want to subvert expectations.

I mean, the Deviants kind of are victims from a certain point of view. They didn't ask to be genetic monstrosities. The Celestials made them that way.

I know nothing about the property btw. Just speculating but he doesn't give me good vibes. I hope his turn or anyone who turns has a justifiable reason. But yeah, like you said, it might be a Skrulls type motivation we're dealing with here.

Man, the scale, scope and visuals for this already blows everything else in the MCU out of the water, and then some. :funny:

Looking at the designs of the Celestials, seeing the concept of an extraterrestrial force laying the foundation for primordial earth, having to prevent a once dormant, but now awakened, secret race of beings from bringing about an apocalyptic event on Earth, and just the use of slight biblical language (7 days until the “Emergence”, 7 days until God rested after creating the World), I wonder if Chloe Zhao might be an Evangelion fan. I do remember reading something about how certain manga she was a fan of growing up inspired a lot of the visuals of this film, so, maybe it’s not just a coincidence.

I know a lot of this stuff is already inherent to the Eternals comics mythology, but just the way it’s being presented is very reminiscent of that other property.

Director Lucrecia Martel was offered Black Widow and they said to her something along the lines of "don't bother about the action scenes, we'll take care of that" and she wanted to get involved in that aspect too, which is why she said no.

Looks like another MCU movie with a villain problem honestly. Thought we were past this.

I watched it and thought - "this didn't really need to get made". The palette is also way too muted looking - need more colors to pop, especially for this type of movie.

I dunno, nothing is appealing to me about it. I'm at the point now where I prefer development over multiple films rather than jam pack all these characters together and characters mind you that I don't really have much familiarity with, so a trailer isn't really going to do it for me. Hopefully Dane Whitman saves the film.

Nice to see Eternal Winter Cyclops though. LOL

I wonder if we are going to see Black Knight in full costume.

Perhaps for the mid credits scene, appearing with someone familiar from the previous movies. Like I can predict now that he's gonna recruit Sersi for something.

Question guys, how big are celestials? I read that they're somewhere between 2000 to 2500 feet? Was EGO the living planet the biggest we've seen or they all vary in size?

I tried keeping an open mind, but I’m really not feeling this. It seems devoid of its own identity beyond MARVEL, and the jokes didn’t land at all. I’ll be waiting til this hits Disney+

I am going to wait for the reviews. If the reviews are more like Shang Chi, I would be more included to watch it in theaters.

I’m catching Shang Chi when it hits Disney+ too. That one didn’t grab me either. I’m looking forward to the post credits scenes and that’s about it
